Gubrud

I’m hearing “out indefinitely.”

They said “ankle injury” on the broadcast. So maybe a high ankle sprain which can be a real bitch but likely not a season ending injury. Unless something’s broken, of course. But it seems like he’d be in a cast if that were the case.

They said it was a game time decision so there’s no way it’s broken. I’m guessing it’s a few weeks tops that he’s out.

If Eric can move the offense well enough to beat Weber, we get the bye before playing Idaho. Good time for it.

It looked like a noncontact injury when it happened. Hopefully not Achilles.

Could be. But would they wait until game day to mke a decision for an injury like that?

Out indefinitely means just that...

I was told he was doing walk-throughs this morning, so it doesn't stand to reason he'll be out for long.

If a bone in the foot is broken does it need to be surgically repaired? My understanding is that bones in hand and foot are harder so are slow to never fully heal without surgery. If that is so how long would healing take to run on it? A couple of months?

What I heard from a players girlfriend Saturday is that it's the ligament in the big toe (essentially turf toe). He's can skip surgery and wait for it to heal but miss most of the year or get surgery, miss the rest of his senior year and prepare for the pros.

Again, this is what i heard. I like Gage and if it's the case, I feel for him if this is how his senior year goes. But I am confident in EB3 and how well this team is coming together.

As I feared. Total bummer and I feel for Gage.

I have total confidence in Eric. He was recruited here for a reason and that was to be the heir apparent to Gubrud. So far we’ve only seen glimpses of what he can is capable of but I expect we’re going to be very happy with what we see. Sure, there will be some Sophomore mistakes but I think the talent is undeniably there. Go Eric! Go Eags!

Good post and agreed. Eric’s the guy until further notice. Maybe we didn’t want that to happen quite so soon but it is what it is at this point. If I’m EB3 I’m getting Matt Nichols, Bo Levi Mitchell, Vernon Adams etc. on the phone and picking their brains some.

That would be a pretty awesome deal, if those previous players are that accessible!

Don't forget 'ol Erik Meyer. He was no slouch, either!

I think the decision boils down to whatever's best for Gage. If he has professional aspirations, then maybe sitting the rest of the season out is what's best for him. On the other hand, I know he wants to win a national championship. Tough call.

The other thing is to consider is whether a 70% Gubrud is better than a 100% EB3. Maybe, but one of the main things that makes Gage so dangerous is his mobility. And Eric has plenty of that...he just doesn't have quite the arm. Yet.
