head football coach

What about Johnny O?? He is an awesome coach, capable of bringing in to tier talent. He can develop offense and defensive line just like he does with LWG and through his tenure at ARC. Dude has trained some of the best prospects in the area over the past 4 years. He is an OUTSTANDING leader and an alumnus. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Let's please get out of the past. Let's get some new blood. Ed Lamb would be good. I know Southern Utah has struggled this year but he made that program promising. Plus he would have relationship with Peterson already
Let's think of coaches that may have some FBS and FCS experience.
I am tired of talking about old coaches as well that use to coach here and the way they did it. There never were any good old days. We have never won more than 7 Games during the FCS era

With THAT mentality, OH, Jonny O could go to Weber and take them to the chipper. Then where would we be?

:ohno....

Weber has a new coach, why would they want to replace him with a interim JC coach? Am I missing something here?

There are only two options I see playing out here. 1) Retain Sears as HC for the next 2 years. 2) Nationwide coaching search, with the best candidate getting the job.

My guess is Sears will remain HC if this season wraps up at .500 or better. I’m not in favor of this, but I would not be surprised with this move given the uncertainty of Sac State leadership at both the President and AD positions.

If Macriss does make a move then a nationwide coaching search needs to happen, otherwise the whole process would be a wasted effort. I would favor keeping Sears over running to the local JC and grabbing a coach without looking for other more qualified candidates who might be interested in the job. Remember folks a JC coach got us to this middle of the road status we are currently in, I doubt a JC coach (one with less HC experience then the last JC coach we had) gets this program over the hump. :twocents:

Azusa Pacific University's HC is one to keep an eye on.

Agree. I’m still holding on to my pre season expectation of 7 wins minimum for Sears to be retained. If one of the wins is the Causeway he may get away with 6.. If he was retained, possibly a two year contract with performance expectations? I would hate to see us get involved in a long term experiment without a full search for the best candidate available. Regardless of who the AD is it would be professionally risky for him to fire a coach that equaled the most wins in the school’s D1 history (7) and gamble their selection could do better.

He probably makes more as a position coach at UCLA than he will make as HC at Sac St. Probably has lighter responsibility load, with that better pay, too than he'll have as HC at Sac St.

According to this link Angus was at $217k last year.

I have no problem with a national search. What I DO have a problem with is a "national search" with Volek-connected coaches pre-excluded. That's making the unwarranted assumption that they have not and will not improve.

You know what they say about "assuming...."

No one is precluding them, but a requirement of relevant/significant D1 coaching experience severely thins the herd. A nationwide search would put most (all?) Hornet alum candidates at a significant disadvantage at landing the HC job.

Welcome to the board GoH! and Bodega Joe. :thumb:

Yep, and someone who can bring kids that would go to lower level FBS teams, kids with speed, size and football sense, can sometimes makeup for dumba$$ coaching mistakes like handing off the ball from the gun in the endzone with a full blitz called against you.

I say call him up-he should at least be on the want to talk with list.

He probably makes more as a position coach at UCLA than he will make as HC at Sac St. Probably has lighter responsibility load, with that better pay, too than he'll have as HC at Sac St.

I like the suggestion of Ed Lamb at Suutah. Or, go deep, go for Pat Hill.

Sears is not capable of being HC here. He is a defensive coach and he has been schooled badly by ISU and CP and most opponents are scoring at will, especially 2nd half. ie. no adjustments at halftime by Sears, which is a killer at this level. Also a killer is being dual HC/DC.

Hornet football has never had any golden years, so all the people being suggested that are alums haven't done anything that would satisfy the requirements necessary to be a FCS HC, IMO.

Being a JC HC is much different than the NCAA requirements to play FCS ball. Sure O-house is tearing it up at ARC, but he has the luxury of having anyone with a pulse on his team. No academic restrictions means he can stack his team with anybody who has an IQ of 50 but weighs 300lbs.

Since it will be a reset next year, loss of Safron, Carter, etc., it is a good time to reset the coaching staff. I have zero confidence that Sears will magically bring it all together.

I would also like to state Ed Lamb is from California in Bay Area, Castro Valley. He has coached at various levels. Redlands, BYU, San Diego, Idaho, Southern Utah. Him being from California and familier with area could be good and he could be interested in the job.

I'm throwing down the gauntlet SH style... Let's get Bob Ladouceur and veer the sh!t out of this conference. Seems to work for CP.

I like it! Can't beat em, so join them. How about Rich Ellerson, he was fired at Army and set the CP bus in motion.

Looks like Ed Lamb signed an extension with Southern Utah through the 2020 season.
