I am now officially off the fence. For the first 5 games of the season I was almost ready to give Downing another chance. But getting scorched by sac has changed my mind. Downing needs a 'dont let the door hit you on the way out'.

I dont give a shit if Downing is a nice guy and the players like him, they need a coach not a cheerleader.

If Jay keeps Downing he should get the same treatment by Kay and the board.

They need to engrave the quote by Boyle above the door to BH, and Nottingham. "Moral victories are for chups"

Here's my idea: Let the Sugar Bears coach next season. They could only win one less game and attendance among male students would likely triple!

not the sugar bears lately. They are pretty disgusting the last couplpe of years. Too much sugar in the honey pots if you know what I am saying.

Someone said something about things being worse, they could maybe... I mean yeah we could only lose 1 or 2 games next year on hail mary's or fumbles on the goal line instead of 3 or 4 or we could only get 2,500 a game instead of 3,000 or we could go 0-11 instead of 1-10 but really we are as close to rock bottom as you can get so does it matter?

The program is here to stay the question is what's going to turn it around?

I guess we aren't allowed to compare ourselves to N.D. and S.D. State or Central Arkansas even though we used to compete and beat them all in DII well except Central Arkansas I don't remember them doing anything back then but whatever.

Let's not forget that Downing has had only one year to work with 63 scholarships. This team was still pretty young and we've got talen to work with for a couple years. I wouldn't mind seeing better assistant coaches and without better funding, we won't get them.

I'll stir the pot a little bit here. If Downing is going to get fired, say Joe won't come back but what about the other former Bears like Breske or Marty English? I wouldn't mind any of those.

Downing has been at a disadvantage but still I'd say we're a mid level RMAC team so that's not going to fly regardless. When we were DII we would have won or been right at the top of the RMAC every year and now the RMAC teams come to Greeley and blow us out... so that aint funding... :x

Well, the season has finally come to an end with another 1 win season. I can't imagine Downing getting another year. I can't imagine any coach at any program getting another year.

Joe Glenn is on his way out at Wyoming, and rightfully so, maybe he can return to UNC.

Yeah, he deserves to be fired after taking them to their first ever bowl win and even beating Tennessee this season. I think Wyoming fans have unrealistic expectations.

When they fired Dalton it was the first week of December. I would assume they take a few days off and then have a sit down end of season meeting, recap, etc. Hopefully someone up the ladder told Jay it's his job if he doesn't make a change, I think that's the only way it happens. If left to his own devices I think Jay will bring him back. Although Jay has fired many prior coaches they weren't his hand picked guy so this is new ground.

Unrealistic? Isnt that the pot calling the kettle black? I think some of the most unrealistic people are on this page. Wyoming coaches knew they had to win a certain number of games this season and they didnt do it. UNC draws from the same recruiting pool as Wyoming. Wyoming isnt good but its excusable. UNC isnt good and everyone including the janitorial staff needs to be fired. Get off your knees for Joe Glenn everyone.

I wish the Tribune would do an article either way. Jay or someone should just come out and say Scott's either staying or going. We need to move on either way, and it's not good for recruiting if something isn't said or done.

Wyoming is a .500 program at best. Every once in a while they get a really good season but that's about it. They were pretty much where they always are under Joe Glenn. UNC should be a .500 team in the Big Sky (give or take a game). I would love Joe Glenn back but don't think he would take the step down.

So Jayhawker is okay with winning once a year then? Look, College sports is a results business. If teams don't win, the coach goes. That simple. Nobody cares if the players like him or her or what kind of person they are.

I understand that college athletics is a business (except for female sports which dont turn a profit anywhere outside of Connecticut) but we are treating UNC like it is an SEC school. Things are slightly different than in the FBS. These kids arent out to make millions of dollars in NFL contracts and the coaches are not their to just turn a program into a national power and if they dont do it after 3 years, they are shown the door and a new big name is brought in to try it again. There arent big names in FCS (and if they are it, it is because they are all washed up). I know that calling for a big time coach makes you feel like a Tennessee fan or something and speculatin g on names gets you all giddy but lets face it. No name will come here especially when they see what they are dealing with.

I'm not asking for Big Sky titles or anything, I'd just like to see a double-digit winning percentage. Downing is 3-31, which is a winning percentage of 8. That is completely unacceptable and he has to go.

jayhawker are you seriously saying that the performance of Downing is acceptable??

I dont care if you are the coach at a fricken' junior college a 3-31 record is unacceptable. I know this is not FBS but it is not the YMCA football league either. This is D1 college athletics and not everyone gets a trophy and an ice cream sunday at the end of the season. Just showing up and being a nice guy do not cut it at this level.

Huh??

Jayhawker, let me help you here.....Our moneymakers are football (when they're good enough to put butts in the seats) and the basketball teams (guaranteed money games)..............I threw out Barnett because I know him, and I know he wants to get back into coaching. Having said that, this would not be a job he would normally take, but seeing as he has gotten little or no attention from anyone looking for a coach (outside of rumors in Laramie that he had been contacted before today), I THINK he'd be willing to listen to UNC simply because of the fact that he wants to coach again, and he'd like to do it at a place that is outside the spotlight because of the way things ended for him at CU, as well as his ties to the state. As far as Joe Glenn, that'd be great, but my guess is that he stays at Wyoming in some sort of fundraising role, similar to what Tom Amstutz and Toledo worked out.........seeing as how he is still popular in Wyoming, regardless of his record....see Mark Kiszla.....That said, Joe will not be approached by any FBS schools. Still, Jay does need to say something with regard to Downing.
