JMU fan here. To be honest, I don't think we know what to expect from you guys. We know you have an "experienced" QB (in terms of age), you also wear purple, and you are not a team to be taken lightly. While some of the fans on the message boards might seem dismissive, the one thing I can promise is that the team will not be looking past you (especially after your thrashing of the #8 seed so handily). Our only loss under our current (and sadly not much longer) head coach was against UNC. We don't tend to look past anyone. If you beat us, it will be fair and square. Our defense has been stellar (no opponent over 14 all year), but our offense has been pretty pedestrian at times. If you can keep it close early, anything can happen.

Good luck and safe travels to anyone coming east. The weather should be right up your alley (20 with some snow possible). If you do come to the game, wear purple.

Serious question... does Weber State have the oldest team in college football? Just quickly going through the roster I saw 3 men who are 26 years old, some more who are 25, and even some “sophomores” who are 24.

It seems very weird to have men that old playing collegiate athletics.

There are always going to be a handfull of players in that age range on rosters of the universities in Utah. It's due to the number of LDS players who go on two year missions right out of HS, come back as 20-21 year olds, red shirt, and then play for 4 years. The years add up. Every once in a while there will be a returning millitary member who ends up on a roster. At any rate, it can be an advantage or a disadvantage to be a bit older. It all depends on the individual players.

The oldest roster in the nation would probably go to BYU.

Welcome to the board DukeFan. Its been a historic run for us in this year's playoffs and we are excited to see what this team can do against the Best the FCS has to offer. We don't see many CAA vs Big Sky matchups all that often which is a shame so it's hard for fans of either conference to truly grasp what the other conferences and the teams in them are all about. I don't care too much for the short prep time and long flight across this great nation but I can guarantee Weber will be stoked to play.

BTW your guy's stadium is gorgeous. Are there any plans on expanding it further? It has the potential to be a monster of a stadium, well more than it already is of course.

Hey Duke fans. I know that there are a few Weber fans that are wanting to jump on your fan board. I have been waiting for approval to post for a few days. Anyone want to ping an admin or mod to approve a few of us?

Wow. That is one of the nicer stadiums in FCS. I put that up against Montana. It looks like capacity is 25,000 and it looks like they get around 17,000 this season being current national champs. I would guess that expansion is not on the top of the priority list.

Knit, Dukefan, and Hart Welcome to the Weber State fan forum!! I've spent some time in Harrisonburg beautiful part of the country, and it was, from what I was told, the best time to visit; early October. It was a lot of fun visiting JMU, I went by my fraternity house and met some really great JMU students (at the time I was still a student too). My brothers kept telling me that the most beautiful women in Virginia were at JMU, and from what I saw, I can concur with their statement.

Too bad to hear that you guys lost your coach. Where is he headed? He has had quite the run at JMU. Will he be coaching this weekend or has he totally left? Weber might be in the same situation sooner than we would like. I'm hoping Coach Hill stays for another year, maybe 2, but he is definitely a highly sought after coach. Will be interesting to see what happens in the off season. Regardless, it will take an absolute perfect effort by Weber to pull off the upset. However, as a fan, I hope it happens and that this storied season in Weber State history continues. If not, I will cheer on the Dukes and hope they finish #1 again.

Thanks for the welcome. The questions are being asked now how to get you guys approved, hopefully it will be approved soon. Our Head Coach hasnt left yet but is being linked with multiple jobs and has turned some down. We all expect based on his results that he will leave at some point. There is belief he is waiting for the right position vs. just any role which could bode well for us. As for the expansion. During the regular season we drew ~24k a game. We always see a drop in the playoffs but i would expect anywhere from 12-18k on Friday night, we had 16k last weekend. The expansion for us will lead you into a heavily debated topic on our board about FBS vs FCS and what we should do. You can spend hours seeing the debate. Personally id like to see us horseshoe the rest of the side in and expand our athletic performance center and video board with the addition of some ribbon boards. One thing JMU prides its self on is having competitive athletics for many sports including Olympic sports (Lacrosee, Soccer, Field Hockey etc.) We are redoing our basketball arena in the short term so expansion for the football stadium may be down the road. If anyone is traveling safe travels and you'll find some great tailgate spots to visit or we can help with local areas to eat at.

You guys have a great team and very excited for what should be a great game. I've posted on our board and AGS that there are some interesting match ups to watch. I expect it to be close and I expect us to win and see it being around the 17-7 range.

Finally, yes JMU girls can match many schools with the heat they bring :) GO Dukes- Wear Purple

Obvious JMU fan here.
Just wanted to say not everyone is taking you guys lightly. I, for one, think you may be one of the toughest teams we've faced this year. You certainly don't have to be concerned about us underestimating you- our staff doesn't underestimate any team we play. They are certainly ready to face a challenge. As for our team being a "primadonna"? You will find they are very aggressive and "blue collar" style smash mouth football. We used to be soft a few years ago with zero defense, but that has evaporated under our new staff.
To beat us, which is very possible, you just have to eliminate errors and play solid football. Our team is pretty good at not committing stupid penalties or errors to give a team a short field. Our QB Schor is usually good for an INT a game, so I wouldn't get too excited after getting one. I think there's only been a game or two (last week) where he didn't throw an INT. He can be his own worst enemy, though- trying to make something out of nothing. All in all, we are very thankful to have him. Nobody has been able to rattle him so far, but if you do I fear it may be a long day for us.
While many believe Coach Houston is all but gone after this season, it certainly isn't a done deal. He said he'd go in a perfect situation, but he also just said during the game it's the best job outside of P5 conferences, so who knows at this point.
For those going to the game, I wish you safe travels and hope our fans treat you with respect.

Welcome MadisonFan. I don't think many of us think we are being underestimated by your staff, maybe just a few of your fans. Same with the primaddona comments. We will need to put together a complete game. Most games this year we have played pretty flawless for 2/3 of the game. This week is going to take 100% execution. I would like to see us lay off of on the trick plays at least early on to see what we can do in the trenches. It may come down to the kickers. Our kicker is decent. How is yours? Our QB got his drivers license when most of your players were in the 5th grade. But besides being 25, the guy has moxie that I have never seen from a Weber QB. He has won in high school and at the JC level and has been doing well this season.

Your road to the title last year was tough and you don't accomplish that without having great coaching and talented kids. I think our coaching staff realizes that to be the best you have to beat the best and we are taking on the best this week.

I agree that some of our fans are underestimating you, but I think it's a vocal minority. Most of those I've talked with are very concerned. You guys certainly have had to face two very good teams so far, so it's not like you've had to walk through the tournament at this point. You've definitely earned your spot and respect.
I believe that many think you may struggle with the travel schedule, but it would be fair to say that any team traveling that far may have a tough time. I don't think the weather will bother you guys one bit, which is quite a difference from our opponent last year.
I'd say the biggest issue our fans have is that we feel we got a pretty tough draw for a 1 seed. Having to face Stony Brook in the first round was no cupcake. Many think they would have went farther if they had faced another opponent. And if we were to win, we'd most likely be facing SDSU... not really too excited about that one either.
Just like last year, if we were to somehow win the title again we would have definitely had to earn it every single game.
As for our kicking situation, our starter Gray has been out, but our backup Radtke has been very good for us. He did miss one last week, but our kicking game has been far less of an achilles heel than it usually is. Our punting game has been great. We have a guy from Australia that I'm sure you'll hear his name a lot...Harry O'Kelly. He's a rugby style punter that can kick running left or right. He's also been giving free reign by the staff to run for a first down if there's an opportunity. He got us some huge first downs a few times this season. He was really crucial for us last week and did a great job flipping the field for us.
The top two special teams in the country are going to be pretty crucial to this game as I see this one being a highly defensive battle.

Great back and forth. Thanks for having us. As others have said, Coach Houston has been very clear that his focus is on getting back to Frisco and repeating. So his leaving is certainly not set in stone, and in fact, a deep playoff run could make it more likely that he stays another year, as FBS schools will be anxious to get a coach in place who can try to shore up recruiting prior to Signing Day in early February. So here's hoping he's busy with us until January. But he's won everywhere he's been (including Citadel, which isn't an easy place to recruit and win), so we're afraid it's more of foregone conclusion that someone will poach him with a salary offer we just don't have the means to match. If it doesn't happen this year, I expect it won't be long thereafter.

As for those of you who are trying to get access to the JMU boards, I would caution you to be careful what you wish for. The vast majority of posters are knowledgeable and eager to have rational discussions. There are a few, however, who are just about the most sanctimonious and tedious people you will ever come across. Our recent success has gone to their head and they think JMU can do no wrong nor get any better - just don't let them get under your skin. Once you react to one of them, they swarm like locust.

I appreciate all the kind words about our team, and I have to admit it's been a hell of a fun ride these past couple years. I would say, however, that last year's team had more of an air of "destiny" than this year's team does. At the end of last year, we were absolutely killing folks. Before going to NDSU and the title game vs YSU, (where we "only" scored 27 and 28 respectively), we were averaging over 51 a game, and our average margin of victory was almost 35. This year, we are averaging 35 a game so far (more than two TDs less per game).

We lost our best RB in the third game, and our rushing attack hasn't been the same since. He put up 265 yards against FBS East Carolina (with TD runs of 80 and 85 yards), and was primed to have a huge year. But he blew an Achilles in the third game, and that was that, as they say. I think it's surprised everyone how much we miss him, as the belief was that we were real deep at RB. We have a transfer who was Ga Tech's leading rusher the past two years, but he hasn't really gotten on track yet. We have a RB-by-committee now, as no one has stepped up and seized the job.

Of course, our defense has made up some of the slack. We are giving up under 9 points a game this year, and there are quite a few scores our backups gave up in garbage time. So while our scoring is down two TDs a game, our Defense is a TD better per game. Of course, a couple penalties or a DB falling down (that's how Stony Brook got their score against us last week), and anything can happen, because I don't see us scoring a ton against you guys. In last year's third round, we beat up Sam Houston 65-7, but I don't think anyone is expecting anything like that this week. SHSU clearly didn't like the cold weather, and I somehow doubt that will affect you all too much. I think it'll be close, and low scoring, and those games can always go either way. Like I said, the air of "destiny" isn't there (at least for me) this time around. But I've been wrong before.

Anyway, more info than you probably wanted. Looking forward to a good game with you guys. We fully expect we'll get your best shot. As the reigning champs, it's been happening to us all year. But as others have said, we've been able to stay focused week after week, and I'm certain nobody is looking past you guys.

Safe travels if you're heading this way.

I'm not going to get too mad about some of the comments being made by the James Madison faithful (hey, we already beat you guys in basketball this season). Heaven's basing some of the comments off of the last two times Weber has visited the East Coast in the playoffs (last decade), kinda makes sense. Neither game went very well for the Cats. An absolute ass-kicking at the hands of the Tribe of William and Mary and last season's loss to Chattanooga. Last year, I feel the game was a bit more evenly matched than what the final score indicated. Besides, our team hadn't quite matured yet. They needed that experience to build off of and I thoroughly feel that that loss helped motivate a number of our players to push themselves during the off-season.

As for the other game played 8 years ago. Admittedly, the 2009 contest against W&M wasn't the best showing by Weber State. That team wasn't very tough. An extremely good team, but, and I love him, it was a Mac team that really lacked discipline and toughness. Weber won a lot of games in 09, but three of the losses can be directly due to a lack of focus, discipline and toughness, which I believe the 17' team doesn't suffer from. One of the biggest strengths that this team has going for it, is that it is an extremely tough team. Did I love the 09 team? Oh yeah...I have some very good friends who played on that team and was very proud of what they accomplished. NO matter, I think they were happy to have just made the playoffs, this year, not so much. They are playing for more. It is going to be a battle in Harrisonburg Friday night. Weber is going to bring their A game and really challenge James Madison.

Honestly, if we could trade the basketball game for the football game I would in a heartbeat.

Does that make me a bad basketball fan?

Best defense in the Big Sky vs maybe the best defense in the country. Two of the best special teams in the country. Neither offenses are flashy but both are efficient. Over/Under will probably be 30-35 points.

Pretty close. The line I saw was JMU -10.5 and an O/U of 38. Not sure how I feel about either of those. to be honest.

To be honest, our MBB team is the festering sore of our athletic programs. It has been a disaster for over two decades. With the exception of one NCAA tournament bid, it has been a complete and utter nightmare of a program. Our admin does a great job hiring coaches with the major exception of MBB. Boasting about beating JMU in basketball is like bragging about stealing a bottle from an infant.
Just saying that I wouldn't brag too much about beating us in basketball, because we lose to almost everyone.
So coming from a JMU fan, we'll let you have that one. Football is another story (I hope!).

Another JMU Fan here. I haven't been this nervous for a game since NDSU in last year's semis, and that includes an FBS game and multiple rivalries in that time. I'm confident that our defense can limit you guys, because they've limited everybody. What concerns me is definitely our offense. As others have noted, its been fairly pedestrian at times, and I think you guys have the best defense we'll have played all year. Could be a low scoring affair. Really hope some of you guys are able to make the trip, safe travels if you do and hopefully I can meet some of Yall.
