I'm not going to get too mad about some of the comments being made by the James Madison faithful (hey, we already beat you guys in basketball this season). Heaven's basing some of the comments off of the last two times Weber has visited the East Coast in the playoffs (last decade), kinda makes sense. Neither game went very well for the Cats. An absolute ass-kicking at the hands of the Tribe of William and Mary and last season's loss to Chattanooga. Last year, I feel the game was a bit more evenly matched than what the final score indicated. Besides, our team hadn't quite matured yet. They needed that experience to build off of and I thoroughly feel that that loss helped motivate a number of our players to push themselves during the off-season.

As for the other game played 8 years ago. Admittedly, the 2009 contest against W&M wasn't the best showing by Weber State. That team wasn't very tough. An extremely good team, but, and I love him, it was a Mac team that really lacked discipline and toughness. Weber won a lot of games in 09, but three of the losses can be directly due to a lack of focus, discipline and toughness, which I believe the 17' team doesn't suffer from. One of the biggest strengths that this team has going for it, is that it is an extremely tough team. Did I love the 09 team? Oh yeah...I have some very good friends who played on that team and was very proud of what they accomplished. NO matter, I think they were happy to have just made the playoffs, this year, not so much. They are playing for more. It is going to be a battle in Harrisonburg Friday night. Weber is going to bring their A game and really challenge James Madison.

Honestly, if we could trade the basketball game for the football game I would in a heartbeat.

Does that make me a bad basketball fan?

To be honest, our MBB team is the festering sore of our athletic programs. It has been a disaster for over two decades. With the exception of one NCAA tournament bid, it has been a complete and utter nightmare of a program. Our admin does a great job hiring coaches with the major exception of MBB. Boasting about beating JMU in basketball is like bragging about stealing a bottle from an infant.
Just saying that I wouldn't brag too much about beating us in basketball, because we lose to almost everyone.
So coming from a JMU fan, we'll let you have that one. Football is another story (I hope!).

While we do have a pretty good basketball tradition here at Weber, we may be in for a rough year, We have a lot of youth on our team and they are still showing it and the team has not yet started to gel. Football has taken the limelight our basketball team usually enjoys.

In the long run, the fan bases overlap a lot. I for one, got into basketball after starting to follow the football team in 2008. A strong football team will also recruit future basketball fans.

It'll be very very tough for the Wildcats to beat the Dukes. Two things for Weber to have any sort of chance, the team has to take full advantage of any red zone opportunities. Can't leave points on the field like they did last week against SUU and second, we can't afford to spot the Dukes points like we have the past two weeks. Need to play 4 quarters. I think the WIU game will help Weber prepare for JMU more so than SUU. Western is very similar to Weber and is a great defensive team. They like Weber, and I'm guessing the Dukes, run a smash-mouth, play action, offense. Having a game like that under our belts helps get ready for a team like JMU.

To me the most important position on the field is the OL. I've been impressed with Latu and Cannon the last two games and feel confident if Downs and Bruce aren't ready to go, that these two will do just fine. However, we need our starters if nothing more, to have additional depth available. I'm fully confident in our defenses abilities and also our special teams. This is shaping up to being a great game. Yes, it really does seem like the planets will need to align for Weber to win, but strange things happen all the time. Like Lloyd Christmas says, "So, you're saying I've got a chance" gotta like the odds of being the underdog and having absolutely nothing to play for except advancing.

Here's a link to the press conference by James Madison's H.C. if you have 30 min or so it's worth checking out.

At 16:20, Mike Houston basically breaks down by the numbers all of the trick plays we have run this season. He says they have already been working on covering them. You can tell this guy is composed, methodical and spends a heck of alot of time watching film. He was very complimentary of our team. I was surprised he could tell you how many fake and trick plays we have run.

I remember someone telling me that one of Gary Crowtons flaws at BYU was that he started to become predictable in his unpredictability. I hope that we don't take it to that level with all of the trickery as of late.

Coach Hill has gone games without any trick plays, and there's a good chance we won't see any this Friday. But because WSU has used them this year James Madison has to spend time preparing for those few gimmicky plays and that means less time preparing for WSU's bread and butter plays...

Coach Hill on 1280 today

He also mentions UNH. They LOVE to run trick plays on us. We've faced UNH 3 times in the last two years so I really think that's really helped Houston and staff for preparing for trick plays. I have yet to see our team baffled by a trick play so far... doesn't mean that we won't on Friday.
While I agree it gives us one more thing to prepare for, the same goes the other way. We have plenty of wrinkles for you guys to prepare for as well (rugby style punter, wildcat formations, triple backs, etc).
At this time of the season I think every team that's made it this far has little things that the opponent will need to prepare for. I don't think either team is going to be surprised by anything, but either team could miss an assignment on a trick play and completely turn the game on its head.

I reached out to the creator of our board last night and he said that he would approve you guys immediately. You should be able to go over there now and talk some smack if you'd like.

By the way, I believe most of us who have predicted a two or three touchdown victory (including me) have based our thoughts purely on our own game history during this season. It's difficult to include you guys in our thought process simply because none of us have been following your progress.

Good luck Friday night. By the way, I am BleedingPurple over on our board. I tried to use that ID over here but was told it was too long.

Hey Duke fans. I know that there are a few Weber fans that are wanting to jump on your fan board. I have been waiting for approval to post for a few days. Anyone want to ping an admin or mod to approve a few of us?

I PM'd the Admin and he said he pushed those through, so those of you waiting on approval should be good now. To clarify it's the admin of the entire csnbbs site, not just our moderator that approves it, so sometimes he gets backed up. If it was our mod I'm sure you'd have been approved right away.

How is your O-Line depth? One of our biggest strengths is our D-Line depth, and we're able to rotate about 6-8 guys in and out. It really helps our pass rush/rush D at the end of games.

Is there any idea out there about how many Weber St fans will be making the trip? I've heard you guys travel pretty well, which would be great considering the only away team that has filled our visitors section in recent memory was Liberty, which is only an hours drive or so away from JMU. Not even our biggest rival Richmond brings very many fans when they play us here.

We rotate D linemen as well, and probably for the same reasons. We rotate DBs and LBs as well. On O we rotate RBs, ends, and WRs. I think we have decent depth at all of those positions. Every year we red shirt about 90% of our incoming freshmen. That helps a lot with depth, if you can get the right numbers at each position. Every once in a while there will be a freshman who can step right in, but that is rare at the FCS level. Lets face it, not many 5 star guys sign on to FCS schools as freshmen. :coffee:

It's a long way to travel. If it were a bit closer, I might go. As it is a quarter world away, I wouldn't expect more than 100 or 200.

Interesting fact: There are more JMU Alumni living in our area than one might think. I was at a local sports bar last night and enquired about a watch party. The owner told us that 12 JMU fans had already made reservations, and that there were about 150 living up and down the Wasatch front.

Unfortunately this Wildcat will not be making the trip. Despite how much I really want to. Vacation time and money will be keeping this Cat in Utah this weekend.

Less than 200. We don't travel that well out of conference. Add to it the short notice, holiday season, travel distance, and a Friday game and the most you will see attend will be local alumni and a handful of others.

If alumni can get the word out, there could be a great contingent of Weber State fans at the game. But, that would take organization, which isn't one of the strongest attributes of our alumni organization. From what I am aware of, there is a Weber State Alumni Organization in the DC area, which has the potential to being quite big. There are a lot of Weber State folks in Northern Virginia and shockingly enough throughout the middle states area of our country.

Personally, I have told all of my friends and family living out there to attend the game. I have two really close friends one who went to Utah and the other Utah State, who are both, with family and some friends, planning on attending and cheering for the Cats. My buddy who went to Utah is involved in the Ute Alumni group and said he would tell them. He said anyone from Utah would probably be interested to support. I told another buddy (a Marine) to take a platoon of Marines to the game to cheer for the Cats. I know there are at least 25 interns who are working in the DC area that are students. The university really should get them tickets and organize rides for them. They all live together in Crystal City. Hell, why stop there, all state representatives, with their staffs, should be there even if we like them or not. They are our reps and should be supporting the team from their state. Another close friend who works for Hatch said that the Senator is aware and interested (he could be the Cats secret weapon. He looks like a ghost from Scooby Doo and could just stand looking at the JMU offense. Just the thought freaks me out.).
