Let the campaign begin!!!!!

uncfootballrules, you know I don't want to argue with you because you are my compadre, but the last thing UNC needs is Bob Stitt. He struggles from year to year in the RMAC. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dogging the RMAC, I think they play some tough ball (Chadron proves it week in and week out), but if we could cherry pick from the RMAC, I would be sending Bill O'Boyle from Chadron a blank sheet of paper and telling him to write down what he wants and we will get it for him. We need a winner that wants to come in and turn a losing program around as a challenge. Stitt is average at best, and the last thing we need is mediocrity.

As an outsider looking in, the biggest factor in the demise of Bears athletics, and specifically football, was Hinrichs blindsiding of Dalton and his staff, and not letting them take the team all the way through the D-II to FCS transition. The second biggest factor in this demise is the hiring of Hinrichs. The first place to look at a replacement is at the AD position. Downing is doing a decent job with the tools (and budget) he has. The team was playing a lot more cohesively toward the end of this season, too. You guys have some pretty decent talent returning next season, and Downing's system is finally starting to take hold.

Don't forget, the Bears are now full-fledged BSC competitors. Being newbies in the conference has an adjustment period.

Just my 2 cents.

URSA - good to be back and hear from you. Nothing brings home an argument like a beer reference. Sweet take on Hinrichs - I'm still laughing as I type.

Now for Stitt, if not him fine. No way do we go for the guy at CSC though. He got lucky that a 5 foot nothing kid from Nebraska turned out to be one of the best RB's in history and his team plays in a relatively weak conference. Anyone offering him a big job after his short run would be a fool. Let's see how he does once Woodhead is gone.

That is a fair observation. But, if O'Boyle still does well the next couple of years, you're going to be into me for about a case, deal?

I would like nothing more than to send Jay back to Lawerence...

He sucks, and if they asked I would drive him to the airport myself.

As for Downing. His team showed me tagiable improvement at the end of the season. Not that we have a choice, but I am willing to give him next season. With more expirence under thier belts, I think his program will be better. The team that I saw at the begining of the year was not the same team that I saw at the end.

Plus as I have said before, I dont want to try to hire another coach while Jay is still around.

For Downing to convince me that he should keep his job after next year, he needs to go .500

I guess we will keep playing in December after our 76-73 win last weekend and the biggest comeback (29 points) in D2 history. NWMSU for the SW region this weekend in Chadron if you wanna come watch football!!

Chadron St? They must have just started their program because during my days of playing at UNC I never heard of them. But good luck and I hope you guys enjoy your one playoff game.

I was watching a bit of the Delaware vs. Delaware State playoff game on Friday. It was interesting to me to see the difference a coach can really make. The coach from Delaware State took over a team that went 1-10 in 2003. Here's what he's done
2004 4-7
2005 7-4
2006 8-3
2007 10-1 *made playoffs (lost in opening round)
What does this mean? I don't know. What I do know is it does not take 5 years to turnaround a program. 2-22 over the past two years is a disaster. I will hold off on prediciting how many wins I think Downing needs next year to save his job until I see the schedule. I do know it will take a dramatic win increase and being competitive in every game (i.e. NO MORE BLOWOUT LOSSES) to make me a believer. I want to be a believer. How about Downing just has the greatest turnaroun in NCAA history next year and wins the conference?

"I do know it will take a dramatic win increase and being competitive in every game (i.e. NO MORE BLOWOUT LOSSES)"

Are you sure you want to rethink tying that phrase to a discussion about Delaware State's coach? 8)

Reasons why we need a new coach:
1) We only won 1 game for the second year in a row 2 and 21 is un- accepatable

2) We were shut out by a NON-PLAYOFF DIVISION II team AT HOME!!!!!!!!

3) Excuses for the teams inability to be copetitive most of the season.

4) Winning helps recruiting and we aint winning so recruiting is going to suffer.

5) We as alumni and fans deservere better!!!!

This is just a beginning list. I know some of you will agree and feel free to add to this list. Some of you will think that everything is okay and the "coach" should stay. do me a favor and tell me why you think he should stay.

'Powder River, let 'er buck'
"Bear Down"

That team may have been better than anybody in the BSC, they are a #1 seed in the SW region and advanced to the quarterfinals last week. Hosting Northwest Missouri to play for a National semi-final. Since Montana got their drawers yanked down in the first round by an unranked opponent, I rest my case. This loss to CSC is really no embarrassment, perhaps a mistake in scheduling is more like it.

Either way its Chadron St. They have beaten two BSC teams in the past two years so now people want to justify a loss to them. Losing to Chadron St is unacceptable regardless of how many points the came from behind. Down 29 points in a playoff game says more to me than the comeback.

Trying to justify a loss to chadron is absolutely ridiculous and embarrassing. It's Chadron freaking State! Are you kidding me? From the RMAC! Has UNC really sunk so low?

Our national championship and playoff teams from the '90's would have humiliated that team but now it is suddenly ok to lose to them. And we didn't only lose, we got shut out at home!

4j, in case you didn't notice, we are not the National Championship teams from the 90's. I don't think that anyone has stated that it is okay to lose to anyone. You just have to admit that Chadron State is good.

I'm going to puke. I cannot believe what I just read. We have actually sunk to the point that we are now defending a SHOUTOUT LOSS to CHADRON STATE at HOME.

I will admit that Chadron is good, correction they have an exceptional player. But a BLOWOUT LOSS AT HOME. No excuse for that ever     That's like Michigan losing to a FBS school - didn't that cost (national championship winning) Lloyd Carr his job???? And if anyone throws out he retired, I'm going to puke again. :D

Wow, time really does make us better than we really were. "The 90's playoff teams would have humilated CSC." Doubtful. Unless Being a top ten team 10 years ago makes you better than the current #2 team. I guess D2 football has regressed the past ten years. Either that or the Big Sky really sucks today??? I would worry about UNC in 2008 instead of 96.

No. It helped, but 1-6 vs. Tressel was his real undoing.

Ummm yes D2 football has regressed tremendously over the last 10 years. Look at all of the top quality teams that have moved on to FCS. 2 teams from the RMAC made the playoffs this year, are you kidding me? My point in saying that the '90's UNC teams were so superior is that I AM worried about the 2008 team because it should theoretically be better than our '90's D-2 teams but we are not even close. What the hell do you think my point was? My point is that our team sucks a#$ so bad that we got humiliated by your overrated team. Beat UND or GVSU and then come back to this board and I will be willing to talk. Those are the caliber of teams that made the playoffs ten years ago. Until then, you are an overrated D2 team in a watered down playoff system and the fact that we got humiliated by you is not a testament to how good you are--it shows how much of a joke we are.

I doubt the D2 has regressed at all, but you can think that if it help you. We can't play UND or UNO or any of those once powerful NCC teams because they all got beat already in the playoffs! Maybe we will play GVSU is we can get by a very good NWMSU team. Remember them, they were also good in the 90's and still are.
