New Coaching Candidates

New merchandise marketing idea......

Blue tee shirts with gold lettering.
The front simply says Collins

The back says can we trust YOU?????

What do you think?

If Bears fans want an honest assessment of coach Collins, you should read the today's Trib article. Schuman does a pretty good job of digging down deep with his personality, etc. I hate paying for web articles but it's worth the $2 daily charge

A touching article.
I, however, choose to believe what I see and am told by others that I trust.
Given the current state of affairs in the football program, an article of this nature is not a shock.
Two thoughts come to mind....Thomas Jefferson reminded us that it is foolish to
Believe what is written in newspapers.
The c second thought is more for Collins to ponder in his next job.......once the toothpaste is out of the tube, its impossible to put it back in.
Say what you want, this coach's character (or lack of it)
as exhibited by his actions had revealed itself.

:protesst: We need to unite and show our displeasure with this coaching staff and start demanding a change be made with the appropriate stakeholders! I'm writing my letter today and sending it in. If you really want change, take a stand and let them know "no change / no financial support"...no tickets purchased, no donations made, no concession stands, no UNC Football materials purchased!!! If we minimize the amount of money coming in as a sign of our displeasure someone in a decision making position has got to listen! Alumni and Fans of UNC Football...take a stand! The time is now, continuing to do the same thing and expecting a different result we only put us in the same boat as Collins.

Didn't your son quit the team? If so, stop kicking a man that's down. Move on.

I've been giving this whole topic a lot of thought.
the one question is........where do we go from here?????
from what I have learned, I definitely have a strong perspective; however, the whole baby and bath water issue comes to mind.
Any comments / concerns / a new thread????/

Where do we go from here? Show up to the games, give money to the B and Gold Club and the QB Club. That will enable us to get better assistant coaches, upgrade facilities and that will help us get better players.
Do you honestly believe that if Collins had the money, he would fire his existing staff and bring in a more qualified one? He brought this staff with him less one or two coaches whom he played with...he is obviously stubborn toward changing his ways, what makes you think he would do that? And even if he did, from his comments and constant finger pointing about the shortcomings of the program, he is just as unqualified as the majority of his staff is to compete at this level. If there is no change, we all need to settle in for another year of this. One thing is for sure, he will never get quality players with winless records.

I've answered your question previously and I am supporter of several players on this team. I talk to them After every game and I am relaying their sentiments.

Please do tell which players are so dissatisfied. Please give names. Internet message boards are fun to hid behind, right?

You have to be kidding with this question/statement right? Why would I or anyone put players in that position? I tell you what, take a unanimous poll with with the players and find out for yourself. In meantime, I will stand strong with my position and let the unaccountability and finger pointing of the current staff of a 1 - 16 record speak for itself as to their plan to fix things. Good thing we have a "winnable" game coming up, it will make you feel better but it's just a potential small band-aid on a large wound. We are all entitled to our opinions and positions, I will be doing something to support mines.

Easy to come on this board and continuously attack someone behind a screen name. You have no personal responsibility that way, right? I have no doubt there are players that hate this coaching staff, especially the older ones that were recruited by the the other coaches. My point though is this: You and your son's friends, the ones that talk shit about the coaching staff (this is how you know this information, right?) have no vested interest in the future of the program. You and Santos and others will forget about UNC in a year or two, but most of us on here whether we agree with each other or not have a long-term interest in the program. We've been fans for a long time, way before your son and his friends signed their letter of intent to play for UNC. Your son quit the team, go post on his new teams message board. Stop kicking a man (Collins, UNC) that's already down.

Look BD, for whatever reason you seem to think you know about my son when it it clearly evident that you don't know about him or me either. My son is very much a part of this team and although there are not many of us I too am a Bear alum as is my other son. We have been a part of this school for quite some time I have IN THE PAST given money to support it. I will continue to support the school with my dollars where i see fit but not the football program since I feel that if you not a part the solution you are a part of the problem!

That said, I believe we (you and I) both want what's best for the program we appear to just differ on how to get that or who is capable of leading us there! I was a Collins supporter but his actions and for the most part his words have changed my position. I wish him nothing but the best but I wish it was as the HC of another program. If you want me to stop kicking him when he is down as a Bear alum I will as soon as he gets his azz up off the ground! Outside if that, I will exercise my right to voice my opinions and allocate my dollars where I see fit for them to go. You my friend my do the same. We can simply agree to disagree. Now you need to follow your own advice and move on.

Remember, I am not the one that started this thread I just happen to agree with it! Time for a change...

As I previously stated, it is WAY TOO EARLY to think about replacing Coach Collins. It is much more harmful to a program to constantly replace the head coach. It is unlikely that any coach, not even Snieder from K-State, Kelly from Oregon, or the ole ball coach himself Steve Spurrier, could have stepped in and had a winning season last year or this year at UNC. Collins and the AD are making improvements. Two new additions to the coaching staff, fully funded scholarship numbers, new uniforms, facility improvements are all steps in the right direction. Winning games will come later, not sooner. UNC needs to attract better athletes. Continuing to update and improve the facilites is going to be a big factor in doing this. Coach Collins will need at least 2 or 3 more seasons before anyone can say whether or not he can be successful at UNC. He stepped into a mess. Give him time to clean it up and stop being foolish enough to think it will happen overnight.

We spent 5 years under the last coach not having anything happen overnight. 2 years under this coach with no sense that things will ever get better. How much time do you give him? 4 years with just 1 win a season against a DII team? That would put us 9 years with nothing but pure failure. Trust me, we are not looking for a 8 win season, a 4 would season would be a step in the right direction.

Agreed...let us also not forget that we were "competitive" in several games in Downing's last season but now we are not. That's a step backwards in 17 games...

"Chip Kelly? STEVE SPURRIER! And Snieder!" "UNC needs more athletes" lemme tell you what you need to do for the sport of football as a whole, Unc football and mankind. Fill up a bathtub full of water get in it and then plug a toaster into the wall. Once you are in the bathtub grab the toaster (still plugged into the wall) and then drop that bitch into the tub while you attempt to cook up your next genius idea.

It is easy for KlondikeBear to bash Collins and myself when he is hiding behind a screen name on a sports forum. Anyone can talk tough when they are not face to face with the person they are talking down to. I have a few questions for KlondikeBear. Did you play D1 college football? What is the highest level of football you have ever played? Have you ever coach football at any level (youth sports does not count)? If so, where and when? As far as the toaster in the bathtub comment, very creative. If we meant in person, I doubt you'd have the courage to say something like that, you'd probably just say something like "Would you like an apple pie with that?" Keep bashing away. :coffee:

Bear Fans,

You need to relax and let the process take shape. You ran Scott Downing out of town and now after 2 seasons you want Collins gone. Who do you really think is waiting to coach this team. In the last application process most of the quality coaches withdrew after they saw what UNC had to offer.

Even after re-opening the process to let a high school coach apply(Dave Logan) he turned down the program to return to Mullen where he was fired later that same year. That spoke volumes about the program that a HS job was better and more lucitive than coaching up at UNC.

You got an alum to come back and try and turn around this program thats been bad for quite a few years. Lets stop acting like people are knocking down your door to coach this program. They are not.

Support Coach Collins and his players that are laying it on the line each and every week, and stop the public bashing. If I was being recruited by UNC and came to this forum to read what the (SUPPORTERS) are saying I would run for the boarder as soon as possible. This man Earnest Collins is your head coach, no one else of higher quality had any interest in the job.

I agree 100% with Vetteman72. The only reason I got on this forum was to learn more about the program. My son is being recruited by UNC, and I've meant all the coaches. I've spoke with Coach Collins one-on-one and I like the man. I get upset by the bashing I see on this forum. In the end, where my son chooses to play ball is his choice. I would hate to think that the things he might read on this forum effected his decision in any way. Support Coach Collins.
