Playoffs??? Playoffs???

As we all know these things mean absolutely nothing especially with some really tough competition coming up for our Cats, but it's still fun to see and speculate on these things.

nobowls.com has Weber State in as an at large in the FCS playoffs playing a home game vs San Diego with a trip to Cheney as the reward for a win.

http://nobowls.com/

The bad thing is (and yes I know this isn't official) but they have Weber, Cal Poly, Montana, North Dakota and Eastern all on the same side of the bracket with 4 playing each other within the first two rounds! :wtf: The bracket is literally West vs East. If the true playoffs ever came to that I would be sorely disappointed in the NCAA, which isn't hard to do.

Having said that it's nice to finally be getting some recognition, but the work is not done yet.

GO WEBER
BEAT SUU

Stats FCS has Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, North Dakota and Montana in. No mention of Weber State in there.

We play Cal Poly so if and a big if we can win our last three games I am sure we would be in the playoffs and Cal Poly will be out and also Cal Poly plays Eastern Washington this weekend so we will see what happens in that game. Weber just needs to win out and the playoff berth will take care of itself

That and winning by big margins would help a lot.

Even if the margins are small I have a hard time seeing the NCAA keeping an 8-3, 7-1 Weber State team from the Big Sky out of the playoffs. Especially since we will have a better conference record than both Montana and Cal Poly, assuming we beat Cal Poly. It really will come down to our game vs Cal Poly. The winner of that game is most likely in. But first things first BEAT NAU!!!!!

The fat lady wouldn't necessarily be singing on our playoff hopes if we lost one of our home games but she will have definitely hummed a few bars.

its just like sas123abc said. Just win and leave no doubt.

Don't forget that last game in Pocatello. I'm sure they would love to keep Weber from getting that 8th win.

You are 100% correct Longtime, every game is a must and we must never count our chickens before they hatch.

Does anyone know if convincing wins the next few weeks would give us a chance at the playoffs? If so, what percent chance would you give us of getting in?

Almost zero.

NAU game bad/no show performance by Wildcats hurts for sure, couldn't have blown a more opportune time as far as gaining respect to be considered (let alone becoming eligible with another hopeful win over Cal Poly).

I would say, looking at the remaining BSC schedule, where much is still in play, that a win over Cal Poly could offer maybe a 50% possibility if the other game results fall in a favorable way. Realize Cal Poly & Weber State are tied for 3rd place along with NAU so a win over Mustangs would knock them down a game & leave Wildcats tied with NAU if they lose to North Dakota. If Wildcats lose, it's all over except a visit to Holt Arena to play with the cat family Bengals. :twocents:

Almost? It's zero!

I would have thought this last game would have finally squashed talk on this thread. It really hasn't been that difficult to figure out who this team is this season, especially after the injury dust settled: a middle-of-the-pack team, playing a relatively weak schedule.

Thank you SWWeatherCat, someone finally has the balls to say it like it is instead of pissing on everyone's leg and telling them it is raining! Thus you will notice I never posted on this ridiculous playoff discussion until now.

I'm gonna take a swing at this one. I'd say less than 15%. Why? Well...two wins does get the Cats playoff eligible. NAU has two tough games a head of them and we only need them to lose once. They might lose twice. I'm cheering for UND and SUU these next two weeks. A loss to Weber this week by Cal Poly would be it for the Stangs. Weber has to win twice. And then need some serious magic. We know Eastern and UND are in Montana is 3-3. If they win twice and so do we, I wouldn't doubt a playoff game in Missoula in that scenario.

Montana and NAU lost. It would be a shame if a 12 team conference did not get 4 teams in after we beat the MVC. NAU is out, Northern Colorado only has 5 FCS wins and Weber beat Cal Poly. I'm gonna come out and say if Weber wins next week, they should be in. However, what happens with the selection committee is a different story. They screwed the Big Sky last year and seem to love Montana.

:agree: With a win, Wildcats should get in...I'm saying. But there's the usual politics involved nationally. Montana's loss to UNC will tarnish their resume a bit, but no wonder why the love for Montana...with their successful history & drawing huge crowds 25K +... what's not to love? (Aside from being a Weber St. fan, of course, no love lost there!)

Again, since the Big Sky, FCS, has the crazy no conference championship game rule, this will happen more often than not; that WSU/UM didn't play each other, as well as other teams not playing each other in conference. At least hope the BSC adds one more conference game to the schedule. :twocents:

I think the Big Sky will get 4 teams in but which 4 depends on Weber's game vs ISU.

Eastern and UND are locks obviously so then it comes down to the next two spots.

Locks
1. UND - lock
2. EWU - lock

Possible at-larges

3. WSU - (Needs to beat ISU, but even that doesn't guarantee a spot)
4. Cal Poly - (They have some good wins on their resume and no really bad losses)
5. UNC (the fact that they could finish with only 6 DI wins may hurt them but the playoff committee said winning a game vs a lower division school shouldn't matter. We will see if that holds true if UNC beats Poly this coming week)
6. Montana (Yes Montana still has a shot. And yes it would be for no other reason than money)

If the unfortunate should happen and ISU finds a way to beat Weber I think the Big Sky will still get 4 teams. UND, EWU, CPSLO/UNC winner and Montana (should they beat MSU......money does talk after all)

However if Weber wins, Weber will go into the playoffs and Montana will not. Honestly I think a Weber loss is the only chance Montana has at a playoff spot.

Just might be the selection committee, Missoula, maybe even the conference office :o will be cheering for the Grizzlies & Bengals this weekend? Nah, just evil thinking...but if so, show them up WILDCATS !!

It is a complete joke that Montana is even ranked still at this point. They are 3-4 in the Big Sky for hells sakes. Their fans are calling for their coaches head, and yet they are still somehow ranked. If they get in it just proves my point that NCAA athletics are as corrupt as it can get and I guess now it has affected the FCS level as well, Montana will pay big $$$ and "magically" make the playoffs.

Montana is ranked because of their name. That is the only reason. Some teams never even see the top 25 with 4 losses but Montana never leaves them even with 4 losses. It's actually quite disgusting.

Now I am in no way saying Weber should be in the top 25. But I am saying Montana SHOULD NOT!
