Playoffs??? Playoffs???

You misinterpret my point LTCat. Whether a coach is pushing to grow a program, or not pushing to grow a program, has nothing to do with results.

Results are determined by such head coaching skills as recruiting ability, in-game tactics, correct evaluation, prep and implementation of a solid game plan for each opponent , sideline coaching, ability to prepare the players emotionally for each game etc.

Rahe has show us his "coaching skills", and, unfortunately, they are inadequate to take Weber to a level that I would like to see us be at. He has also consistently shown us that he is pleased and happy with winning the BSC. He has demonstrated that his goals do not include such things as taking the program to more of a place of a national respectability, winning some away OOC games against quality opponents or any other goals that indicate that he is motivated to move the program beyond where it has been for the past years that he has been here. As I have said many times before, he is happy with being the big fish in the little pond.

In contrast,Hill consistently proves that he has a great desire to take our football program to greater heights and he is actually succeeding at that goal by consistently improving the team each year. But that does not speak to coaching skills. The verdict is still out on whether he has the "coaching skills" to actually accomplish what he desires for the team. And whether the team has another growth year next year and improves its won/lost record again, or it falters and takes a step back should not be used as a measurement of Hill's desire to compete for a BSC championship, do well in the playoffs and even compete for the FCS championship. A year where the team falters should only be additional input used to measure the coaching staff's (including the head coach) "coaching skills".

So LTCat your post, "hope Hill has a decent year next year for respects sake", which was made as a response implying that some of us on this site are fair weather fans only, is such a totally misguided comment. I am sure that despite your characterization of me as a fair-weather fan, I am every bit as much a fan of Weber football and basketball as anyone else here. Desiring greater things for Weber athletics and pushing to make that happen; expressing opinions against coaches who may not have the same goals for Weber and may not demonstrate certain coaching skills is not an indication that a fan is not a "real" Weber fan. Those are the facts and they are indisputable.

He certainly does not show the emotion or give comments that seem to dispute this, in my view.

I understand and respect that baller but we will see how some on this forum responds if Coach Hills football program digresses next year or if it starts competing for a big sky title but doesn't quite win it or if it does win a big sky and doesn't go far into the playoffs or does go far into the playoffs but doesn't win a FCS title. It's just like in the case of Rahe, he wins big sky titles but he just hasn't quite made the next step and you personally called for his head and some has called out his salary. Where does it end baller when he ends up winning in state games and winning in the big dance are you guys going to be happy? I very much doubt it.

Great job by Coach Hill and his Wildcats to make the playoffs this season. Also, another winning season by Coach. Back to back for the first time since 09/10. Honestly, I was just happy about Weber making the playoffs. I was pretty sure that the Mocs would beat Weber. Even though the score was a bit lopsided our team played decent ball, other than the 5 TOs. That was the difference in the game. One team held onto the ball, the other didn't. I wish the Mocs luck going forward.

Thank you to our seniors! This class has gone through quite a bit adversity during their time here at Weber State, and they finished on a high note by getting to the playoffs. We are going to miss quite a few of them next year, but such is life in college football. I know he was much maligned, but a big thank you to Jadrian Clark. He ended his career as one of the top QBs to ever play at Weber State, and as a starter ended up with a record of 15 - 11. Not to shabby! Also, a big thank you to our graduating hogs. Our line is going to miss 4 year starter Cameron Young, 2 year starter Calvin Styein, and BYU Transfer Chase Larson. The offensive line is responsible for the offenses success, and they had quite the year. If Larson doesn't get injured, the Wildcats probably end up sharing the conference crown and playing a home playoff game this Saturday.

Next year is going to be tough. This season Weber had an extremely favorable schedule. In conference we have road games at Montana State, Cal Poly, Portland State, and Eastern Washington and home games against Montana, UC Davis, SUU, and ISU. Currently, we have only 2 OOC games against PAC-12 Cal and Sac St. I'm pretty sure Weber will end up with a DII game. I've heard rumors that we might have gotten a home FCS game, but we will just have to wait and see. No matter, that schedule is going to be really tough. If Weber ends up at the top of the conference next season they will have earned it. Winning 5 games might be considered a success for our Wildcats. I hope I'm wrong and I hope Coach Hill is still here guiding Weber State Football!

N. Ogden Cat... winning the BSC in basketball isn't the same as winning it in football. That accomplishment in football is a much greater accomplishment and a goal that is worthy. In basketball the goals need to be higher. If it turns out that Rahe wins some OOC games on the road, schedules into the Dee some good teams and wins, wins the BSC and a game or two in the NCAA playoffs I will eat crow and say I am wrong. I am not saying that he cannot accomplish those things. I believe that he might be able to do these things if: (1) he loosens up in his in-game approach and adds a few elements to the team; (2) raises his sites and stops being ok with losses outside of the conference. Again, I will be as happy as anyone if the above happens and I will give credit where credit is due. I just don't think that Rahe (and athletic admin) have such goals and he doesn't have the coaching skills to accomplish it today. I hope I am wrong...

This is a FOOTBALL thread. If you want to discuss basketball please do so on the basketball threads. :twocents:

Ok, I don't like discussing basketball on the football forum, but with a statement as foolish as this one I couldn't help it.

Winning the Big Sky in Basketball isn't as big as an accomplishment as winning it in Football? That is utterly crazy talk. :yikes:

If anything Winning it in Basketball is much more important because it is the ONLY way Weber gets into the highest level of the post season. In football you don't have to win the conference to get to the highest level of the post season at our level. Our football team finished 3rd and was an at large in the playoffs. If our basketball team finished 3rd they would be lucky to even get a sniff for most post season tourneys.

Wow, aren't you aware of the history of WSU basketball and football. I am quite positive you are, so you should read my comments in that context. If you would do that, you would understand my "crazy talk" comments!

I understand the difference in history between our basketball and football programs just fine but saying winning the Big Sky in Football is a worthy goal but not in Basketball is ridiculous.

Yes I would like some more OOC wins and an elevated program but winning the BSC is and should be the first and foremost goal every year unless you don't want to go dancing.

So much drama on this forum lately, hard to check in to read about WSU, seems like every post is a pissing match, move on wildcat fans.
:dead:

At Weber, winning the conference in basketball isn't the accomplishment that winning the conference in football would be. Weber is expected to win the conference in basketball every year. Why would winning a bad conference that you're expected to win be as big of an accomplishment as winning in football? In football Weber is never expected to win, there is one more conference team, the conference schools put many more resources toward football, and the conference is one of the better conferences in the nation. For Weber, winning in football has always been much harder to accomplish.

This is exactly part of the reason that winning in football is much harder to do. The sky in basketball is terrible. That's exactly why they only get one postseason bid. The sky in football is one of the better conferences in the nation. That's exactly why they get four out of the 24 postseason bids, including a top two seed. And you don't have to win the conference in basketball either, you just have to win some stupid tournament in Reno.

Huh, maybe because IT'S WHAT GETS YOU TO THE BIG DANCE IN THE FIRST PLACE? :dunce:

Is a 2nd place Weber State team making the dance? How about third place......4th?

Yes winning a BSC football title is huge, its a great accomplishment and one I want to see happen more often. But you don't need one to participate in the FCS playoffs. Whereas YOU NEED TO WIN THE BSC IN BASKETBALL TO GO DANCING.

Jeebus Does Weber need to not win a BSC basketball title 10 years in a row for some of you to realize how important a BSC Basketball Championship is?

The statement about having one more conference team would only matter if we played each of the other 12 football members every year. We don't, we play 8, whereas our hoops team plays each of the 11 other schools and all but 4 of them twice.

Again, To say winning the Big Sky in basketball isn't a worthy goal is just plain ridiculous.

Or maybe it has something to do with splitting 24 bids between 10 conferences. Of course the stronger conferences are going to get more than one bid.

Again, does the runner up get to go dancing?

Again, go ask any of the players on our current squad and ask them what they would rather have, a win over Utah State or a Big Sky title? If the fans don't care about winning the Big Sky title then why should the players?

Seriously I hate the argument of "if your expected to win something the achievement is lessened when you accomplish said thing."

Tell me, if the football team is picked to win the Big Sky and they do is the worth of that achievement diminished?

If the New England Patriots are the favorite to win the Super Bowl and they succeed is the worth of their goal diminished?

The Cubs had been a favorite all year to win the World Series and they did. Does that diminish the worth of their accomplishment?

Or does it only apply to Weber State Basketball?

Wow, after reading some of these posts it is very clear why Weber has remained the big fish in the little pond all these years, while others in the state have improved their standing. Until more fans, the administration, the AD and the coach raise their sites we will remain in the pond. It seems, that for most, that is a worthy goal. But it is also nice to know that there are some who have set their sites higher and push to get Weber athletics to rise up and claim their rightful position.

Just curious Bawler; How much do you contribute toward helping WSU rise up to the next level?

Yeah cause we as fans have any control over what happens at the administrative levels

Actually, we do. We speak with our wallets and our presence. If enough of us are unsatisfied and the money keeps going down, that creates change.

PURP; I agree with you most of the time. However, I'm calling BS on this one. Simply leaving the scene and not buying tickets will not drive change. You are simply gone and out of everyone's minds. The way to make change is to get involved, contribute, and voice your desires. Attendance dropped last year but revenues actually went up. So, a few fans not showing up had no impact at all. Sure, those who contribute the most have the most say, but I have seen those who contribute just a little have an impact as well. The key is to get involved, not to withdraw and become invisible.IMO

Runner, just saw your contribution question for me. Don't think it appropriate to answer you by quoting an actual dollar amount. Suffice it to say that I have contributed regularly since the early 90's at levels beyond the norm to both football and basketball.
