Program Deserves Big Crowds

This weekends games are going to both be tough. Weber needs, and has rightfully earned, large, boisterous crowds. Fan support makes a huge difference, not only in games, but also, in a coaches decision to stay or go. We need the Dee to be full. Also, the team needs all the help they can get to protect their homecourt and to get W's.

In all honesty, there should be 9-10K at both games this week. The program has shown that its a winner, that the team plays hard no matter what the circumstances, that the players are talented and fun to watch, and most of all that they win. Ogden hasn't seen a back to back championship since the early 90s, and there is a very good possibility of that happening this year, playing in a very good, rejuvenated, conference. Where are our fans?

This is a big weekend for Wildcat basketball, school is back in, back to back against 2 pretty darn good teams. I would love nothing more than a big raucous crowd. Hell even if below the portals were full all the way around the DEC, like they were in the 90's I would be happy.

I read a lot more than I post, but I really think I need to say something right now.

Evidently, the Athletic Department could care less about their programs. Granted, I'm not a marketing wizz, but I'm pretty sure the monkey's at Hogle Zoo could do a better job than the incompetent nimrods we have working for Weber State. Marketing just isn't about the atletic marketers, even though they tend to set the tone and need to do the bulk of the work, but its about a lot of other areas. PPAK, WSUSA, SAA (Alumni and its organizations), Wildcat Club, SID (sports information director and his office) and other areas (Student Athletes perhaps/Cheerleaders?? D'uh?).

As for the PPAK. Wow, its just gone from bad to worse. Who's in charge of them? Are the chair or the council held responsible for anything? I'm glad that there are busses, but thats probably all I've seen from them since the USU game. Shouldn't there be promotions for home games on campus to get the students out. 1000 students would greatly improve the home crowd and make the Dee that much louder. I'm not even going to get into WSUSA. We all know the advisors over that area of campus are totally worthless. Just look at how pathetic homecoming is now, and whats happened to Wildcat Weekend? Whomever the new AD is, man I fell sorry for him. I hear he is good, but then again, I've never met him, I've just had friends say good things about him, but how far can one person go?

Oh yeah, JOE stop playing that stupid song. Nobody likes it!

It would also help if the local media took time out of thier lives once in a while to announce our games and times, instead of spending the whole fricken sports show talking about fricken BYU, its about time to get over BYU, they're good, lets leave it at that, there are other schools in this state, and BYU isnt the only one doing good.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I have heard these same comments for 10 years. The time to fill the arena is in summer months for football and early Sept & Oct for basketball through season tickets. Weber continues to be late in ticket sales every year. I wait every year for football to sell tickets during spring football, and get about 5,000 early bird sells and then get 4-5000 during the summer months. I believe then the PPak can pull off three thousand. Same with Basketball, start early, get commits from existing ticket holders, 5000, then get the local business to get three thousand, and the students three thousand, any way, I'm also frustrated that the kids deserve better. Go Wildcats,,

Weber State fans (the fickle ones) just need to Cowboy up and stop staying home if it rains or if its cold, or if the Jazz are playing, I would rather watch Weber in person than watch the Jazz on TV, not to mention Weber is doing something the Jazz arent....winning. And I also hate the so called Weber state fans who would rather stay home and watch the stupid repetitive holy war than come out and watch Weber beat teams like Cal Poly 47-14 in thier season final, what was there like 3,000 at that game? yes it was cold, but it wasnt snowing and the sun was out.

If your really a Wildcat fan, prove it and come out and support them.

I wish that there were more ways to get the word out about WSU games. I wish that somehow there could be flyers handed out at like local grocery stores and businesses. Thy would help so much!! How about putting signs in front of Wal-mart advertising the games. IE: 6 tickets for $25!! Would that not help or what? I still think we need to use Harrison Blvd. more. How about using the radio and tv? Let's go a little dis out of our ways to advertise!

It seems like all of us on this forum are frustrated with the lack of a crowd. We complain of how there should be more of one and it seems like no one does anything about it. Isn't there something that us here could actually do? Is there a way for us to get permission to hand out fliers and such? It would help immensely, that as well as word of mouth. Just saying how about we do something if no one else will.

I'm sure if you ask around on here you will probably find some people have extra tix that go un-used, and would give you one for free.

wildkyle, if you can get to the game(s) I will get you a ticket, even if I have to pay full price. Send me a personal message if you are interested.

Wildkyle, If you can get here I think that I have extra tickets for both Friday and Saturday. I can put them on Will Call for you. PM me and I would be happy to do that.

There are a lot of things we the fans can do... For homecoming we got permission to put flyers on cars around campus that are on city streets, kinda nice having the mayor a Wildcat All-American. You can come on campus with Catcat and I and help pass out flyers to the students, put them on cars, or at the dorms. One thing that has really been lacking is the basketball posters around town and the small schedules. You use to be able to go into every single business along harrison and see Weber State paraphenalia, posters, and the schedules. Now, not so much. You can put messages on local radio stations in their civic forums or send emails asking local DJ's to make a couple of announcements about games.

We can get our local municipal gov't to send out the small schedules at the beginning of the seasons in the utility bills. Also, you can have the cities put it on their websites and in their newletters (YES, that is your right and yes you can request those things to happen). At your businesses or employment ask to put posters up hand out schedules, put game info on websites, blogs, send a mass email, who knows. Most local businesses want info and want to advertise for the teams. One thing that really pisses me off is that you can't find any Weber State gear anywhere in OGDEN or Weber county. I know that this is an excllent example of how Weber consistently pisses down their legs and screws over their potential fans, since the school wont let any other store sell its gear. Oh, facebook all your friends about it, send texts, emails, and make phone calls. Use local civic, religious, or business groups to spread the word. For instance, make an announcement in Relief Society and Preisthood. Send letters to area newpapers (opinion or guest commentary) or media outlets.

Most important...pressure the powers that be to get their staff to actually do their jobs. Alumni, WSUSA, PPAK, and the Athletic Department are the ones that must do the bulk of the work. I don't understand why Utah can advertise on the busses in Weber County yet we can't. Also, what happened to the Welcome to Wildcat Country sign on Harrison? Whoever owns it can't use it as a billboard. That area isn't zoned for that. The only reason they were allowed to have that sign on the property at that spot was because it was designated for a Non-profit billboard (A donation and a welcome sign) like how USU uses the old rodeo stadium coming into Logan. Someone other than me please complain to Ogden City.

In my opinion, there is absolutely no passion among the professional staff. I remember Tingey, Gherity, and Shay. They were amazing! They had passion, did their jobs well, and love Weber State. They were replaced by what? I'm sorry, if Brad is the best the Athletic Department has, then it makes sense why it is so backwords and inefficient.

Well, since I know that the board of directors aren't paid professional staff, I think its pretty good that you get what you get from them. The president of the WCC actually was the one who got the Wildcat Club bus filled, not the sycophant. Also, I know a few of the board members do a shiz load of work, maybe not all of them, but there are a few that do far more than anyone else on that campus. Coach Heslop is on the board, I'm pretty sure he does more than all of us put together. But I will agree...there are a few that could do more, including me.

If you were taking this as a shot towards you well you are wrong, you and I both know there is WAY TOO MUCH dead wood up at WSU, Wildcat club included. I know there are SOME members of the board that actually do something but I also know for a FACT that there are MANY that do NOTHING.

Kind Sir,

The Wildcat Club and Board are both a waste of time and space. They do nothing. Isn't it evident? Hopefully the monies really go to scholarships I would hate to think it is funding lazy people.

AJ...I wasn't taking it as a shot at all. So no worries. Yes, I am well aware of the "dead wood" at Weber. It really makes me sick.

Yes, 1964... All of the money donated to the Wildcat Club goes to Scholarships for your beloved Wildcat teams. So maybe you shouldn't say its worthless.
