Program Deserves Big Crowds

FYI on the Wildcat Club. When I was first on the board, there were WEEKLY coaches luncheons; Split - the - Pot; Stats and Snacks at Halftime of basketball games; Packets that went out to members with licence plate frames, season ticket info, pocket schedules, parking passes, etc; goals and directions for the Wildcat Club were laid out and assignments were given to board members. Every one of these things has gone by the wayside in the last year and a half. Also, there were many things that I really pushed for that do exist, but people don't know about. 1- Wildcat Club Gear. We can order it, but NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT IT!!!! 2- Discount card for Wildcat Club Members to local businesses. The cards are done and sitting in somebody's office but NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT IT!!!! The only thing the Wildcat Club currently does is the Auction and the Annual Golf Tourney. I could go on and on about it, but I hope that you all get my drift.

I have no idea how the board works, (smjcpa) but seems like we need you back ON the board, and if Tal is on the board how could he let these things fall to the wayside?? Tal you mentioned this week "why don't we have a coaches show" if your on the board make something happen even if it's a phone call. All of these things matter and directly influence our program and attendance. The ideas on this forum the last 24 hours on here have been remarkable. Last night driving around I found myself listening to the "Dave Rose Show" on KSL 1160, you bet your A$$ I'd rather be listening to "The Randy Rahe Show" on KLO 1430.
Maybe we need to start a forum Wildcat club so we can get some of this stuff accomplished. We will call it "guys in their 20's & 30's some with wife and kids and businesses, who are willing to spend a couple of hours a week who actually give a fetching sh*t about Wildcat basketball and football club."

That may be hard to fit on a business card, but I like the approach.

I have heard from very reputable sources that SMJ was voted off the board because he actually expected things to get done. Rather than get things done he was viewed as a trouble maker and was voted off.

I did bring up the coaches show with the powers that be. However, I don't think anyone has been thinking about Weber State using their own assests to do the shows. Weber State has a radio station and gets air time on TV for their broadcasting program. Why not use these avenues to get the word out.

Yeah I'm sure that both Randy Rahe and Carl Arky would love to do a coaches show. Bring those two together and do a show. I believe that the 88.1 station is in the Union building. I'm sure that someone can arrange this. It would be cool if Arky would also interview players. If we the fans could call in that would be cool too. Just some ideas.

I have a great idea to get people to games, do like BYU did last weekend and sale tickets for $1.00. They had 22,000 at that game the first and only time this season and for the most part they have averaged about 10,000. So of Weber wants to see an increase in attendance of about 100%, based on this data, they should do this. The same should be done for football.

For those of you that know high school seniors tell them that the organization on campus that is in charge of "get into weber" are giving out free tickets to the Friday game. Meet at 5:30pm at UV, free food and stuff. That's a pretty cool idea. Spread the word on this.

I am a newer member of the Wildcat club and to be honest, I was not too impressed with how things worked.
I sent in my $ and application last spring and was told I would get a welcome packet and other things in just a few weeks. Well, it took over 6 months to get the welcome packet. I got a license plate frame, membership card, order form for Wildcat gear, and a letter. Since this welcome packet, I have not heard a thing from them.
I expected more communication and contact. I don't expect a lot of "freebies" or stuff, but I would appreciate some type of newsletter or update on how things are going, upcoming events, etc... There are two full time staff (making a combined salary of $84,103.00). You would think that at least a monthly e-mail message or some other type of contact would be done?
Bring back split the pot - that is some low lying fruit. Send out the discount cards - easy publicity and is a tangible incentive for joining. Hold a reception before/after a game for members with the coaches - personal contact goes a long way. The webiste had some good info., but nothing new or current. Seems like this was set up a few years ago and all they have done is change a few dates for coaches luncheons, etc.
I am not too impressed with the organization thus far.
More needs to be done with the Wildcat Club!

I like the idea of a WSU athletics radio show. I would prefer that it be done at KLO with Wildcat Carl as that has a larger audience. What would it take to get this done? Advertisers?

They should be selling $1 upper tickets to a few random games, especially in a recession. KLO is the only way to go with the radio show. I haven't listened to 88.1 since 1999. I forgot it was even there. What happened to all the posters pocket schedules in local businesses?

A couple of billboards on Harrison with Lillards mug and Session dunking need to be put up for the next 2 and a half years.

i joined last yr for the first time, i never got anything that you got even after six months. i didnt see any point to be a member other than a donation for scholarships. i'd rather just buy season tkts and go to games, that alone is enough support. i didn't renew my membership this yr. i have no negative feelings toward the wclub i guess i just dont care. i am thinking of joining the grid iron club, $50 min level membership.

The idea of a billboard is good, but VERY costly. The going rate for a billboard in a high traffic area is at least $1000 a month. I know the previous AD had many and long discussions with Reagan advertising, but they would not budge on the price and wanted to give a crappy location. I helped the AD get in contact with another outdoor sign company and it was used for a couple of years. I do not know the status of it now, but it is just too costly to do without some type of discount.

What was Talhadfoursteals saying earlier this week about a billboard or spot that was donated to WSU that somebody else is using?? Or did I completely misunderstand it. You would think with all the frontage WSU has they would become their own (Reagan) for their own purposes. I've gotten much harder issues pushed through zoning at Ogden City (with persistence) plus they would have the "WSU for the good of the Community aspect" argument to get zoning for their own billboard especialy around the Dee Events Center along Harrison.

Along Harrison in the Shadow Valley area, by the light in the gully, there use to be a sign that said "Welcome to Wildcat Country." Since that area doesn't allow signage of any type, espcially billboards, the property owners had to get a special use permit and prove that the sign was only to promote Weber State and was a no-profit sign. Well, the sign, pretty much, fell into disuse. I'm sure the property owners wanted Weber to pay something to renew or update the sign (probably at cost, but not sure). Well they, the property owners, are now using the sign as a billboard (Hampton Estates bought it), which is totally against the Zoning ordaninance of Ogden City. I like how they originally allowed a sign to be constructed, but now have turned their backs on Weber. I'm sure that the property changed ownership. But if not...Shame on whoever owns the property.

I had a long conversation with the former AD about billboards to. They are just to expensive. However, Ogden City owns a couple billboards which could promote Weber State at times and Weber could always put signage on their land, as long as it follows the ordinances they have to follow. Reagan IS CRAP, by the way.

maybe South Ogden, riverdale, far west, or another city would help Weber out, but I'm sure Weber's powers that be haven't thought about approaching those cities, who cares as long as I get my pay check. I know Roy's administration has very close ties to Weber, but Weber really doesn't hug back.

Would I be out of line to contact Jerry Bovee and discuss different ideas I have to increase attendance? Honestly, there are SO MANY things WSU could do that wouldn't cost them ANY extra money.
I have heard in the past that other fan board and Wildcat Club members have approached the athletic department with good ideas and were just told to basically piss off.
So what can I do? I'm sick of the attitude up there but instead of pointing fingers I am dying to help fix the problems. SO WHAT CAN I DO?
