Recruiting 2014

This weekend and next weekend for recruit visiting ISU and than NLI signing day on Wednesday, Feb. 5. We need some verbal commitments the next two weekends. Any JUCOs coming to visit or just high school players visiting?

Watching this video (and what do I know) this seems like a kid that has the ability to play right away.

I would say so. That is the one position that looks to lack depth. He has very good speed ran 11.0 100 and 22.1 200 as a junior. They are adding players with a lot of speed.

Some strong rumors...

Good to see some verbal commitments that are high school players. Hopefully, they sign with ISU and have a bright future.

Can we win a championship or have a winning season in 2014 in the Big Sky without JUCO players or step down players being signed in 2014? Is it possible with the returning starters and freshmen that redshirted last season with a tougher Big Sky schedule in 2014?

I am all about the future of the program but what about the 2014 season? I have only seen one posting about a JUCO player being recruited which is not good news in my opinion for the 2014 team. We will see on Feb. 5 who signs. Maybe, Kramer will hold some scholarships for late signing.

I have a feeling there will be a few JC transfers signed. I also feel like they will get some late kids after spring ball. Some kids will leave the program when they see the pecking order in the spring. We know they are looking for some home run threats at RB and WR. But we also know that it is vital that they get some seasoned DB's as well. I don't think it will be a ton but they are going to get a few.

I do not know bengalcub as it appears just high school players are being recruited according to postings. Kramer has to win this season in the Big Sky as he will be completing his forth recruiting season. He has not received an extension onto his contract as of today which tells me the 2014 season is a must win season for him in the Big Sky as only winning two games in the Big Sky against Northern Colorado the last three seasons does not say much.

I agree with you about DB's and a RB as an immediate need. I would also add an experienced WR that is tall with breakaway speed into the mix. Better to get some experienced JUCO players or step down players to fill these positions immediately for the 2014 season to have a chance of winning games in the Big Sky. I said this last recruiting season but it never developed and you saw the results, only one win in the Big Sky against Northern Colorado at Holt Arena.

As I mentioned, the building of a program with high school players is the way to go for the future but losing teams rebuilding a program need a mix of JUCO players and step down players entering the program every season to keep returning players competitive in practice as there are no guarantees of starting positions when Fall Camp rolls around. We will see during Fall Camp who is starting at the DB's, RB's, and WR's skilled positions. Also, Justn Arias has to show that he can produce wins in close games as a senior otherwise his position as a starting QB maybe in jeopardy just like our 2013 pre-season WR Big Sky selection Cameron Richmond became a backup player to a freshmen by the end of season.

Again, you would think losing to a terrible Weber State team of a score of 32 - 7 would be a wake up call for Kramer regarding recruiting for the 2014 season. It would appear that Kramer is sticking to his guns about only recruiting high school players after getting his butt kicked at Weber State. I guess we got our butts kicked because it was windy that day and Weber State had a small locker room for visiting teams.

I know that JC kids have been in on official visits over the past few weeks. This does not mean that they committed. I don't think that Kramer will sign a ton but I think he trying for a few. You also see movement after spring ball and I would be that a drop down or some unknown JC kids will find a way into the fold.

I also believe that winning is important but I do not believe that Kramer is under any real pressure to build quickly through the JC ranks. I think that in the next few years we are going to be happy that the foundation was laid through talented freshman.

With that said, they do need some JC kids at some key positions and I think they are trying to get it and will continue to do so.

I also think that Arias is going to open some eyes this fall. He did take a full season off. I am not saying he is all world but I think he will be much better for playing last season. Just my two cents...

No real pressure to build quickly bengalscub after three losing seasons, only winning two Big Sky games against Northern Colorado in the last three seasons, and losing to Weber State 32 - 7 to finish the 2013 season ? I have to think Kramer and his assistants will be pressured to win in the Big Sky in 2014 and it may come down to the 2014 signing of players to win more games in the Big Sky. I have not read anything about an extension onto his contract going into the 2014 season which may suggest having another losing season in the Big Sky is not acceptable. Hopefully, Kramer and his assistants can win games in the Big Sky in 2014 as losing close games do not count in the win column.

I said I do not believe that he is pressured to build through the JC ranks. Never said any pressure at all. Tingey knows what Kramer has done for the program by bringing it back from a death bed. A solid foundation or recruiting youth gives ISU the best chance of being successful long-term.

Maybe the casual fan does not understand APR but I do. The team was terrible with a bad APR. Now the team is maturing with a solid APR. I think a handful wins are coming next season and I expect to see Kramer given an extension.

But hey it is just my opinion. Feel free to disagree with me, just don't use the angle (not saying you are) that I do not think winning is important and that I am satisfied with losing.

We can continue this conversation on another thread. This thread is for recruiting, my apologies for getting off topic.

I agree 100%, Kramer still isn't under a lot of pressure to win because of what we've been through with the APR hell. I think that Tingey just wants to see a little improvement every year, which is what's happened over the last few years.

It is all about recruiting and signing of players to win in the Big Sky. If you cannot recruit and sign top players than you cannot win games in the Big Sky as talent will prevail during the game over coaching. Losing to a winless Weber State team 32 - 7 at the end of the season is no indication of improvement as that was the biggest game of the season for the Bengals in 2013. Weber State celebrated that day and the ISU players and coaches were sent home to Pocatello wondering what happened. Too bad for the Weber State head coach, he celebrated with his team that day to get his first Big Sky win of the 2013 season but got fired a few days later for having two straight losing seasons. This is the reality of Division 1 football, a head coach continues to have losing season than he will be fired before his contract ends or shortly after his contract ends as most Athletic Directors are under the same pressure from their bosses. Kramer is for sure under big time pressure to win this season as he knows his contract was not extended at the end of the 2013 season and he knows he has had 3 straight losing seasons near or in the cellar. I hope he signs some players that will help him win in the Big Sky in 2014 otherwise it will probably be changing of the guards after the season ends. If he does not obtain some good JUCO players and step down players for the 2014 season than he is doomed as the Bengals football schedule will be more difficult this upcoming season based on the teams they will be playing in the Big Sky. As you are aware, the Bengals will be predicted to finish close to the cellar in the 2014 Big Sky pre-season polls for the 4th straight year under Kramer. That is not good news for the coaches, players, alumni, student body, and fans as the pre-season predictions seem to come true for the Bengals.
