Recuriting Class

Fasterthanyou - Do you know who Lex's hosts are this weekend?

No, I get my information about fourth or fifth-hand. You'll probably find out before I do about hosts.

I was thinking that they would have Jace around to make sure Lex feels at home, but what I heard was he liked all the guys he met on his other two visits --- seems to be just an easy-going guy. So maybe they have someone who plays a similar position hosting him? --- either way, I don't have any idea.

If you are on campus, I'd think Lex would be hard to miss with his size. He is a BIG dude.

I just got done looking at rivals.com and it doesn't mention us offering Lex Smith. Huh?

That doesn't mean anything. Take a look at Paul Garnica below. He visited the campus and received an offer, neither of which are reflected.

They still show Bryce Schwindt as 'committed':

. That's because Bryce committed to the bears and is on the roster

Looks like Beau Martin, DE from Mullen who was offered by UNC, Air Force and Weber has decided to play D2 ball at CSU- Pueblo. Wonder why? At least Weber won't get him either.

I will say one thing, CSU Pueblo built a new stadium the right way, that facility will really help them recruit.

According to 9news, we are getting Armoni Brewington:

In state list...

Maybe 7-4 looks better than 3-8?

CSU Pueblo has the potential to be in contention for a RMAC title in the next few years, maybe even next season.

CSU Pueblo has the potential to be atop of the RMAC in a few years, I just looked at the players they signed, looks like some good talent.

The thing I notice about CSU-Pueblo, and this is all I'll say about that program, is that they bring in a ton of kids for football. I'm not sure if more than a few are on a full scholarship or how many are still on the team after their first season. I don't think that we should be concerning ourselves with CSU-P anyway. Why even bring it up? Those are not the kids that UNC needs to go after to be competitive in the Big Sky. We need more BCS players who realize that they can make an immediate impact at the FCS level.
Does anyone have any inside info on how the UNC recruiting class looks? I read the Tribune article but it's just a teaser for the full story tomorrow. Did anyone attend the news conference by Downing at Nottingham? I'm interested to find out which of these kids can step in and make a difference right away.

According to rivals.com, we rank 132 best class in the entire country. The only other Big Sky team ahead of us is Sac St. The gem of the class in Brewington. The guy had offers from CSU (NOT CSU-PUEBLO) and Minnesota, probably grey-shirts, but offers non the less. He'll probably play right away. Nice job coaches!

I wish I could tell him to hurry, but I'm just getting updates from a guy I know who knows someone who goes to school with ... you know the drill.

But what I heard was apparently the LOI was being faxed this afternoon. Supposedly.

I just checked and guess what? Scout has it.

Denver East lineman Lexington Smith made his decision today reporting to PrepColorado that he will play his college football a Northern Colorado.

Congrats, the Bears got a good one. You are going to be loaded at DT.
:D

I love the size of the linemen, that kid from Wyoming is 3 bills, that's got to help.

Also that Brewington kid is from my high school, awesome!

Don't know if the Smith kid is a player or not, but i do know that he hasn't committed to UNC, so I guess we can save some web-space now by not talking about him anymore.

Really solid class though, I'm impressed by what the staff was able to do.

Yeah, wonder what's going on. Scout says he has signed, but he's not on the list. Oh well, I'm very happy about this class. The staff did a great job! Some of these guys I can see playing right away. Conner Glenn can return punts, Brodington can play a bit of receiver. Although we're stacked at the position right now. The transfer DT from Wyo will help right away. We couldn't get to the QB last year for the life of us.

 You had me worried there, but I checked with someone in the know and it's been verified. His letter was faxed late to UNC and therefore did not make the press conference, but they said to expect an announcement later today.

Sorry if this took up too much space -- just thought you'd want to know about a recruit, when I heard on the grapevine he was leaning toward UNC. According to Rivals' CSU site (Interest picks up in Denver big man http://coloradostate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1043654), he was also recruited by Montana State, New Mexico, New Mexico State and offered PWO by several D1 schools, including CSU. I thought he was a nice pickup for UNC.

Rivals has Smith listed as a Bear now too:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Lexington-Smith-92780

So FTY, use all the space you want.

i wish to extend a hardy 'good job' to coach downing and his staff. since i've been following the bears, this looks to be by far coach d's best group. a real good mixture of good looking athletes on both sides of the ball. and, from what i'm hearing, we have more kids that want to come play here than we have schollys for! oustanding! bring 'em all on. we need every 'body' we can get. the future is looking bright at unc, good luck to the coach's and players. fight on to victory bears!
