Roos Field Renovation

From the lack of response I guess it must mean we have to live with our crappy 80's NAIA scoreboard for another season.

I've heard rumors that it will be in place for this fall.

I've also heard from a very reliable source that the video scoreboard will be done before the game when we allow Montana to come to Titletown, USA.

I might hold back on the Titletown, at least until we win our second at the end of this season. :coffee: :kisswink:

Sure hope the both of you are right on the scoreboard though.

Heres the deal from a VERY reliable source,

The board is being installed by Daktronics. Daktronics is the largest maker of media boards in the country so they bring a lot of experience to this project.
It will be the same size as the Cougars board.http://www.daktronics.com/ProductsServices/PhotoGallery/Pages/photodetail.aspx?pn=WP-13400_DD1436707.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
But it will have higher resolution than theirs.
It will have a built in speaker system with a MONSTER speaker on top.
There will be 3 HD cameras strategically hard wired in to get best angles.
It will be installed inside the track thus closer to the fans in the stands.
Goal is to have it in, and up and running by Sept 1 for the high school all star game - Evergreen Bowl?
(I may not have that description right but I am sure you guys know more details than I do.)
Sounds like the powers that be have done a great job on thinking this through and getting a first class project done.
Kudos!!

That is awesome news!! The atmosphere at Roos was 10 times better last year then it had ever been and I think the video board is only going to build on that even more. It is going to feel so much more big time then in the past. I think it will help to hook more casual fans and turn them into repeat customers.

Glad to hear the scoreboard will be inside the track! I assume that means we will start using field goal nets. I have always been concerned for the poor person(s) in the lift filming and that a weird bounce off that thing would take it down.
Also, congrats and great job to the school and the powers that be for making this happen. As tight as budgets are, it is nice to see the improvements over these past few years!

I am no longer on the EAA board and even though I just asked two days ago I was not aware of the Score Board. This is great news. I hope we have some very bad calls in the Montana game that go our way so we can play them over and over again. Lord knows we have had enough of them in Montana over the years.
I guess I am just RontheoldEagle now.

Eastern announces new video scoreboards

Fans may look at Eastern Washington University sports in a new way this year.

State-of-the-art video scoreboards will be installed at both Roos Field and Reese Court, a university official told The Spokesman-Review late Thursday night.

“It took a lot of perseverence and a lot of teamwork,” said Mike Westfall, vice president for university advancement and executive director of the EWU Foundation, the nonprofit corporation which will take the leading role in managing the project.

“We’re fortunate that we have good leadership on both sides, the university and the foundation,” Westfall said.

ML, I edited your post because copying more than a few paragraphs of copyrighted material is a no no. Next time just put a couple paragraphs in a quote and link to the rest... just a heads up. It's the least we can do since Jim's been providing such great coverage and posts the articles over here as well. Thanks!

What comes first, fans in the stands or the entertainment that draws them. Most people go to a game to be entertained and it happens at a football game. With the new investment in this great tool, the next step in making game day an entertaining experience is PA announcer. We need a little excitement behind the mic. possibly the sound system associated with the board will help. Wonder if they can mic up a fan in the stands to show engagements etc.
After that the cheer squad, so often they start a cheer right after a play. By the time the team gets to the line the enthusiastic fans are tired of yelling so the opportunity is missed. We are fortunate to have a great mascot, now if the cheer squad can catch up. I know they work hard they just seem to be lacking leadership that knows something about the game.
Regardless this is a great step forward for Eagle football and basketball when we learn more about that board.
GoEags!

Wheels are in motion but the project came about so quickly that everyone is still trying get the proper ducks in a row in order to start (permits, plans, etc.)

The University needs a permit to build a structure that sits on land owned by the University?
Strange.

Ya, you have to get a permit to put in a furnace in your own house, this is no different.

I talk to staff at Raver golf yesterday and this is a done deal. Football board is first, so it will be ready for home games. The Reese court board will be in by October during Vball season so any problems will worked out by Basketball season. Patience's grass hopper
