....Chaves was on the radio earlier this week, the Gateway is top priority, no mention of what that means, but the University does understand the time is now to get this done....
I am NOT giving up on The Gateway Project happening. I'm talking about taking the track out and making it look like a 1st class football stadium. There are smart people thinking about this project and I have to believe that a creative way to raise the funds necessary will be identified. I really believe in Chaves and believe that he will find a way to make this happen. It sound like our top admin are on board-- now it's just a matter of problem solving.....and I get it....coming up with 60 - 70 million is a big problem. I'm wondering with tuition expected to decrease 15% over the next few years at EWU if students wouldn't be willing to give a little bit of those savings each quarter towards the Project. I mean, think about it. As of fall of 2014, there were OVER 13,000 students enrolled at EWU. If each student gave $150 a year that would be $1,950,000 collected over 1 year. But that's almost 10,000,000 over 5 years and almost 20,000,000 over 10 years. Maybe you find a way to invest that money. If you are an economics person and know anything about the
"Rule of 72" you know that you should be able to double your money within 10 years if you know what you're doing. That gets us up to 40 million over 20 years. I know we still fall 25 million short or so but that would take a lot of the burden off of "Big Donors." Maybe then we get a couple of "whales" to step in and donate 10 to 15 million a piece. There you have it. The whole thing paid for in about 20 years and that's with students only giving $150 a year. Maybe they would be willing to give $200? I'm sure the university has other revenue streams as well. I've seen quite a bit more EWU apparel in the stores lately and am wondering if this is
part of their plan. Now I have no idea if my idea is feasible or not, but at least it
gets the creative juices flowing. Somebody has to start thinking CREATIVELY and I think Chaves is the guy to do it.
Let's get a "think tank" going with Chaves, Our Pres, and some really smart finance people. Put them in a room for a few hours and see what happens....
I know they can make this thing work!!!
go eags!
