Roos Field Renovation

EWU98,
I don't think he was talking only to myself, many of us post different places, don't pay attention to the Subject. Thanks for having my back :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:    jmyoung will pay closer attention. ;) ;) ;) Vic Wallace

Vic Wallace can post "whatever and wherever" he likes, only if Vic Wallace is a very selfish and inconsiderate person--with no regard or respect for his fellow alums. And I doubt Vic Wallace is really that kind of person.

Vic is the most caring, non-judgemental person I know. I take offense that you make statements about which you obviously have NO knowledge!
And yes... Vic can post whatever and wherever he wants, IMO he IS a nice guy!

Clearly, you're new here... :ohno:

You are clearly new to The Red Zone and don't understand the value and insight Vic brings to this board. Vic provides those of us that are far from Cheney insights to how practices are going, what players are looking good and which players are busting their asses during the off-season. I don't give a damn which thread this information is in but am grateful for every post that he makes.

Thank you Vic for all that you do and keep posting wherever and whenever you want! Go Eags!!!!!

Dude, it's a message board. Relax.

Wow - jmyoung needs to have a beverage of his choice and CHILL! I don't think I've ever seen topic police in the Red Zone before! Especially not when it's anything from Vic!! And it's worth repeating.... for those who don't get it..... (jmyoung).... Vic CAN post whatever and wherever he likes!!! As EaginAZ said, being far away is tough, and I will be forever grateful for any information Vic gives us, no matter what thread I have to click to read it.

So.... any news on the Gateway Project? or Roos Field Renovation? (I'm not Vic, so wanted to be sure I was on topic.) ha ha ha

I agree that Vic is allowed to post whatever, wherever he wants...he's the godfather.

As far as this topic, Chaves was on the radio earlier this week, the Gateway is top priority, no mention of what that means, but the University does understand the time is now to get this done.

My guess is that the few big fish they went after did not bite (eastern has a terrible history of donors, in that we don't have any), so they will most likely scale this down some. I think the FCS landscape is going to change in the next couple years so doing something with the visiting site is an absolute necessity...

People, people, please! I apologize if some of you thought this was some sort of attack on Vic Wallace, which it certainly wasn't intended to be. It started out as a mild rebuke to a couple of people for not respecting the courtesy of the board, and it has somehow deteriorated into this! The Roos Field/Gateway Renovation topic is far and away the most viewed on this entire forum, and many of us who live far away from Eastern have only this to keep us up on what's happening. Even though I said anyone who indiscriminately posts is selfish and inconsiderate, I also said I didn't think Vic Wallace was that kind of person. I still don't. I've read this forum every day for the past six years, and I know how important Vic Wallace is. And how loved. But I also believe there's a reason the forum has topics. I don't think asking someone to respect those boundaries is unreasonable.

But I also understand the irony that I am now responsible for the very thing I complained about in the beginning. So yes, Vic Wallace can post whatever and wherever he likes! I get it! Now let's move on.

I am NOT giving up on The Gateway Project happening. I'm talking about taking the track out and making it look like a 1st class football stadium. There are smart people thinking about this project and I have to believe that a creative way to raise the funds necessary will be identified. I really believe in Chaves and believe that he will find a way to make this happen. It sound like our top admin are on board-- now it's just a matter of problem solving.....and I get it....coming up with 60 - 70 million is a big problem. I'm wondering with tuition expected to decrease 15% over the next few years at EWU if students wouldn't be willing to give a little bit of those savings each quarter towards the Project. I mean, think about it. As of fall of 2014, there were OVER 13,000 students enrolled at EWU. If each student gave $150 a year that would be $1,950,000 collected over 1 year. But that's almost 10,000,000 over 5 years and almost 20,000,000 over 10 years. Maybe you find a way to invest that money. If you are an economics person and know anything about the "Rule of 72" you know that you should be able to double your money within 10 years if you know what you're doing. That gets us up to 40 million over 20 years. I know we still fall 25 million short or so but that would take a lot of the burden off of "Big Donors." Maybe then we get a couple of "whales" to step in and donate 10 to 15 million a piece. There you have it. The whole thing paid for in about 20 years and that's with students only giving $150 a year. Maybe they would be willing to give $200? I'm sure the university has other revenue streams as well. I've seen quite a bit more EWU apparel in the stores lately and am wondering if this is part of their plan. Now I have no idea if my idea is feasible or not, but at least it gets the creative juices flowing. Somebody has to start thinking CREATIVELY and I think Chaves is the guy to do it.

Let's get a "think tank" going with Chaves, Our Pres, and some really smart finance people. Put them in a room for a few hours and see what happens....

I know they can make this thing work!!!

go eags!

I like the way you think, I'm just nervously impatient.

First of all, I agree Vic can post W&W he wants!! Something needs done with the stadium. I would not be opposed to a corporate name on it in order to raise funds. I always thought The Gateway was an awesome but ambitious project. Unfortunately, our alumni are mostly teachers, accountants, & dental hygienists. While they are noble professions, they are not the 1% that one person could write a check to pay for the project.

clawman,
I didn't know I had that many people that had my back, thanks to all. Didn't mean to stir up and problems on our blog. I appreciate what jmyoung young was saying. Now it has passed and we are back in action. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) . Hope to see you on Tuesday, at the Epic, I will be there. I think you know the individual I was talking from Rearden, you was there the day he attended, and is now an EWU Backer. Went to the Volley Ball against our Alum today, we are going to have an Outstanding Team, got some new ladies coming in are going to be great. I know if it not FB/MB, you doesn't attend, know you must "Put those heads in bed". Saw two of our QB, Cooper Kupp and is "New Lady (his wife)      at the VB Game and some of the other Players. See you on Tuesday? Vic Wallace

Hi Vic;
When a man does good things good things come to him. You've earned our support.
Sorry to say I won't be able to make it to Epic tomorrow. My son is competing in a bass fishing tournament in Arkansas so Debbie and I are going there this week. Looking forward to seeing some practices next week.
Thanks for the updates you've been posting.
CC

clawman,
Have a safe trip to Arkansas, you and the family, and return safely. Wish the tournament was on TV. I watch a lot of Bass Fishing on TV, and just wish they were my catches :o :o :o :o     . Will be at the 3 p.m. Practice today. Vic

I love the vision of building a gateway across Washington Street, but I believe fixing the seating situation is a much larger need that requires immediate attention. As someone mentioned earlier in this thread, I don't understand why something couldn't be built that is expandable in the future if the "Gateway" Portion ever becomes a reality.

As mentioned by many posters on here, if the gateway cannot be done in one giant swoop (which it's obvious it won’t due to lack of funding) then steps should be made to do an expansion/renovation in stages. 1st issue of business is to address the east side bleachers. They’re offense to look at and I’m sure even worse to sit and watch the game from. In my ideal world, the track would be removed, bring the field closer to the west home stands and build a permanent structure on the east side of similar size to the current home side. I know people have mentioned that removing the track, although an awesome idea, most likely will not happen. Also one thing to consider is the new video scoreboard sits smack dab in the middle of the field (width wise), so if the track was removed and the field was brought in closer to the west stands, the score board would be off center from the middle of the endzone. Could be goofy.

So with that in mind, what could be done is to remove the current visitor side abomination and build a similar in size structure to the current home side stands. Build the new east side stands with sight lines in mind and build so expansion to the structure can be done. When the time comes to remove the track, the field could be lowered for addition seating that would be built where the current track runs along the sidelines. To me, this is probably the better alternative at present time since money for expansion is the missing link in making it happen.

I know I am beating the dead horse but I'm frustrated nothing has been done yet. Not even a mention of where the university is with the project. We all feel the same way, no matter what, SOMETHING needs to be done. I’m just starting to lose patience on this as year and year passes and there is no new information from the university. I’m getting tired of hearing that it’s at the top of priorities and they are working diligently to find a solution but there is zero information being provided as to what that means exactly.

I also agree with almost all of you on what is reality and what is unrealistic about the project. But, I'm going to take a different path on this and ask all of YOU, what can we do about this? We all seem to be on the same page and in favor of something happening to fix our high school stadium, but talking with each other about it on this forum probably isn't going to do much, as much as I wish it would. There has to ways for us to reach out to the University, administrators and others to show that we need this to happen to keep EWU on a positive track to the future.

Our boys and coaches have earned the right to play in an improved stadium, so what can WE do as supporters and funders to help? We have to get off our butts and make some noise rather than waiting daily for something to happen online. Do any of you have opinions or ideas to help make things move? I'm open and willing to do my part to make change!

Go Eags!
