Roos Field Renovation

Talk to whoever convinced whoever that an ice rink was a good idea(still don't know what that looks like) and pulled that one off. Put that group on the bleacher replacement.

I also agree with almost all of you on what is reality and what is unrealistic about the project. But, I'm going to take a different path on this and ask all of YOU, what can we do about this? We all seem to be on the same page and in favor of something happening to fix our high school stadium, but talking with each other about it on this forum probably isn't going to do much, as much as I wish it would. There has to ways for us to reach out to the University, administrators and others to show that we need this to happen to keep EWU on a positive track to the future.

Our boys and coaches have earned the right to play in an improved stadium, so what can WE do as supporters and funders to help? We have to get off our butts and make some noise rather than waiting daily for something to happen online. Do any of you have opinions or ideas to help make things move? I'm open and willing to do my part to make change!

Go Eags!

I think most everyone here would be willing to give an appropriate amount based on their personal income. The problem is me giving a couple grand ain't gonna do a whole lot in the big picture. I strongly suspect naming rights have been introduced into the equation and yet that still hasn't been enough motivation to get a big donation. We also burned a pretty big bridge when the last attempt at renovation happened that started with the pressbox, although I don't believe anyone currently in admin was involved in that issue.

The worst thing to note, and I've mentioned it before, is that Eastern once got this approved to build an East side that was loaded with offices, classrroms, and a child care facility that used state funds... but that plan was jettisoned in favor of other facilities projects in the late 90s.

And I agree with Observer, that ice hockey rink without an intercollegiate team is weird thing. The students are still paying for that facilities project. I'm not a fan of increasing tuition by anything other than a small, nominal amount to fund a stadium project. Eastern shouldn't be a high-dollar university as I feel that is contrary to the mission of education. That said, there are enough major corps based in Washington doing big business in the Eastern half of the state that I'd think someone--- anyone --- could step up.

I think the issue with a big corp coming in for naming rights is the issue that Eastern doesn't receive that much exposure outside of 3-4 root sports games and maybe some coverage on ESPN for playoffs. There's really nothing in it for a corporation to pony up to slap their name and logo on Roos.

Imagine Brent Musberger saying, "You're looking live at Roos Field at Rosauers Supermarket Stadium!"

I don't mean simply financial help, as we will all likely be contributing to that in some way when the day comes. I'm talking vocally, to put some pressure on everyone that the time is now and the demand is high. There has got to be something we can do!

I would like to see EWU improve its football facilities. That would be good for both EWU and the BSC.

But how do you make it happen? According to the report that EWU submitted to the NCAA for the 2013 - 2014 school year, ticket sales were $344,136. Assuming you had 51,600 football fans for six home games and all the sales were for football, the average ticket price is $6.67. Quite the bargain.

For the same year UM and MSU had ticket sales of $5,611,729 and $2,867,699, respectively. UM has about three times and MSU has about two times the football seating capacity of EWU. If UM and MSU priced tickets like EWU does, sales would be about $1,032,400 and $688,300, respectively.

Seems like one thing that EWU could do is raise ticket prices and earmark the increased dollars for the Gateway.

Seating capacity at Roos is somewhere between 10,000 and 11,000 when all is said and done. Take out the playoff games and we average around 10k a year. But you're right, we don't make a ton in ticket sales. I'd say on any given Saturday, students make up at least a third of the total attendance, and students don't pay for tickets (its included as part of student fees).

We need more seating to drive ticket sales and revenue.

clawman,
On Friday morning had difficulty sleeping, turned my TV to "ESPNU" there was a Bass Tournament going, I taught I was hearing things when I heard "Eastern Washington University". I didn't know we had Students in Bass Tournaments. Forget where tournament was held, and the individuals in the tournament. Happy to say I watched the tournament EWU won had 33 lbs 15 ounces, 2nd place had 33 lbs 0 ounces. Don't remember who else was in the tournament, was so happy to see the Eagles won the tournament. Good morning. Vic Wallace

Good Morning Vic;
Luke was never on the Eastern bass fishing team. That is a collegiate club sport. He is a professional bass fisherman and does it for his living. http://lukeclausenfishing.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I did meet one of the guys that were on that team at this tournament and he is still working in the fishing industry after he got his degree.

clawman,
I love Luke "BIO" Sound like he made more money than his Dad :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: . Enjoyed reading the paper. This smoke have been very hard on this beautiful old Bod. Got a sick after I got home from Practice on Friday, it was terrible. Glad you and family had a safe trip to Arkansas and back to Spokane. Vic Wallace

EdubU10,
Thank you very much for the info on the Bass Tournament with EWU Students. This is the first time I knew we had EWU Students in the Tournament after all these years. Great to see they are winning. Thanks again! Vic Wallace

Clawman,
Thanks for the info, doesn't pay much the attention of the Subject, want to keep everything going smoothly. Will pay closer attention. Vic Wallace

Well, EWU has not caught a whale for the Gateway. So talking about the mess of bass the EWU team caught seems fine.

Good luck in landing a whale. Hope your quest proves more successful than Ahab's. Although, EWU has been at sea for quite some time. Happy fishing.

and still kicking the Montana schools asses repeatedly. A combined 7-0 in the past 3 years. :lol:

clawman, and ALL
At practice on Wednesday afternoon , 3 elder Gentlemen came up to the gate on the Red Turf, all three standing looking at the field. I as a joke mentioned, I am not listening, unless all of you are talking about the "Gateway Project". They replied that they were. I don't know if any of them was from EWU or not. After I mentioned I would be retired 20 years from EWU, Aug 31, they all wished me well, and stated they hope I come back and visit after the Gateway is completed. They enter Roos Field walked around the track watching the team practice, up to the Press Box making pictures of the field and surrounding areas. They then departed the area about 45 minutes, and went to the vicinity of Phase #1, which is where AD Bill Chaves Office is located. Hope this is not wishful thinking. Those are my Detective Insights. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Going to get some :nod: :nod: :nod: :nod: Sleep. Vic Wallace

You've got to remember that appearance and spectacle are more important to the grizzz fan than actual football success. I will have to admit, referencing Moby Dick in a missed atempt at a metaphor for the state of affairs at EWU is impressively ambitious for a Harvard of Western Montana fan.

Well.....after watching us put up 549 yards on one of the top 7 teams in all of America (438 passing and 111 rushing), I can't stop thinking about how much this team deserves to be playing in a state of the art stadium. The level that our team is playing at right now is ridiculous. Our program will only grow stronger and stronger if we can get something built. Spokane wants a winner and will jump all over the EWU bandwagon if we get something built. We are not just a strong FCS team, we are a strong team period---At ANY LEVEL. The caliber of athlete at EWU right now is unprecedented. This is the time to make something happen!!! If we do, high-caliber athletes will keep coming. It's an investment. You get returns on good investments.
