Rumor- Collins is staying

Besides PlayerParent's son I have heard at least a couple more kids quit today and many more are considering transferring or just walking away from football altogether. At least two of those are pretty prominent players now. Only time will tell if they follow through with it, but if they do it will be a big blow to the depth and talent of this team next year and beyond.

Yeah rumor is is that collins heard through someone else that this player didn't want to play for him anymore. Collins kicked the kid out on the spot. And he's off the team

I second this.. exactly what happened. Players on the team are pissed off about it, specifically the leadership council as well as his fellow position group.

Rumor was his position coach was with him and didn't even defend him when Collins kicked him off the team

Well, if you are Collins, it's a move you have to make. If you don't, you run the risk of the player causing real havoc in the locker room and making the situation much worse.

Wouldn't the right move have been to actually confirm the rumour he heard and have a meeting with the kid. This kind of behavior is why he is having so many issues. If telling someone you dont want toplay forcollins gets youkicked off the team than every kid who has beento my house needs to go. 303bears is your son staying?

Playing college football is a privilege, not a right. Give up your scholarship and let someone else who wants it.

Wouldn't the right move have been to actually "dismiss" Collins ?? What a mess we are in. I don't know if we will ever get out of this fiasco :wall:

Agreed, but when the coach is horrible and team doesn't win, no one will want to take the scholarship.. at that point giving up the scholarship is a better option for some players

I also heard during the meeting yesterday that Collins told the players he is here to stay and this is where he is going to finish his career no matter the situation.

instead of complaining on this blog call the AD relentlessly. I could not find his email.

I'm sure there is someone willing to take it. College is expensive these days.

Could someone who is close to the situation give us some numbers on how many have walked for this weekend/been dismissed (and if possible names) I'm really curious to see how bad this is. And Beardown, I agree that it's a privilege to have a sholarship- but from what it sounds like there is a good chunk of these players that are calling it quits because of this news, this to me sounds like a problem with the coaching staff. You have to really hate a guy to walk away/try somewhere else.

It's not really a privilege to play for Collins and this program at it's current state.

Theres a way you handle that situation, you dont go "I heard you told John who told Juwuan that you don't want to play anymore, you are kicked off the team. No you meet with the kid , one on one, and the discuss the situation. Collins does not give a crap about the players. Steven Miller is in the 5% of that he is nice too, and this is mainly because his Valor roots, and they know they have to keep Steven happy in order to get future recruits from Valor, which is a juggernaut in Colorado as a high school. I dont think people realize how corrupt thngs are in the program and BigBearFAN76 can second that.

This program in its current state is a head on crash waiting to happen. Boosters & alums are fed up and we are not going down without a fight this time. The backlash from this is going to hurt the pocketbook big time

Is that what happened or is that just speculation? If that's how it happened then that is horrific but there has to be more to the story. Is it just 1 or 2 kids leaving or is it bigger than that? Right now, as a fan, the sky has fallen but I am not sure what the real vibe in the locker room is.

I'm not going to worry about it. UNC is larger than Collins or anyone on this roster. I'll be there Saturday to support the players,, especially the seniors.

Like I said in a previous post, some of you guys can hang around and support the wrong man for the job and program all you want. Apparently, there are those who are content with being less than mediocre and underachieve in addition to setting bad examples of how to take accountability as a man. Perhaps, that's the life those that support Collins and his philosophy lead their lives and that's cool...to each his own. What I do know is if you are not a part of the solution, then you are part of the problem.

My so has chosen to give up his scholarship and move forward as a walk on at another University. So long UNC Football, best of luck to you!

Where is he going?

I agree 100%, the program in its current state is corrupt and based on politics, playing favorites, being older and so on. Collins simply cares about himself and himself only. In meetings he constantly talks about if the players dont perform he cant pay for his family and so on. Collins is a self centered ass hole who can't be a leader. His actions go down to the position coaches as well... Overall collins only cares about himself. This team is screwed with him at the helm.

This is exactly what happened. Collins had no conversation with the player. Simply came out told the kid to turn his stuff in and he is off the team.

This is absolutely unacceptable! Why should Collins continuously be given chance after chance with the UNC football team? 9-35 overall and a brand new athletic director (Darren Dunn) comes in and signs Collins a 2 year extension on his contract... Which, Collins was on his final year in his contract. Now you have this athletic director, who hasn't done ANYTHING yet in his career at UNC, comes and makes a statement to the football team? Saying that he believes in Collins, this coaching, and that they aren’t going anywhere. Where do you get off Darren? Are you in every meeting and practice that these players are? Do you spend the time the players do with Collins and that coaching staff? No, so the crap that Collins is feeding you is all that you are going off... Collins must be the best BSer because it’s gotten him paid and will continue to get him paid for LOSING. That is all under Dunn's watch! Now regarding the Offensive Coordinator Jon Boyer. Boyer has padded his resume with stats that show increase in total yards and rushing yards but this means absolutely NOTHING!!! What matters are WINS! Sure enough Boyer didn't put his record on their as Offensive Coordinator and for good reason. 9-24 since taking over, 5 of those wins coming from his first season as Offensive Coordinator and being worse every year since. The reason why I am so frustrated and fed up with Boyer is if you have been to ANY of UNC's games this year, you can understand my frustration. Boyer's play calling is the most predictable and conservative play calling I have EVER SEEN! Run, Run, Pass, Punt. Run, Run, Pass, Punt. His love of running the football has become ludicrous and trust me, I am not against running the ball at ALL, but doing so every first down? This puts you in these 3rd and 8, 3rd and long type situations and then you are FORCED to throw the ball down the field. What's so wrong with throwing the ball 1st and 2nd down? Look at what Idaho State did to the Bear earlier this year. They picked apart the Bears defense and it wasn't long balls down the field. They were short passes that marched the offense down the field and then guess what!? It opened the run game! Weird how that works... And the last time I checked, the head coach puts together the game plan (so Boyer isn’t 100% to blame but is sure close)... But you know what; NOTHING is going to change as long as Collins and Boyer are still at UNC. Not to mention the backing that Dunn has for them now. The one bright side to this season for the Bears is the acquisition of Defensive Coordinator Larry Kerr. First year as the Defensive Coordinator Coach Kerr’s defense has been absolutely outstanding and is the reason why UNC is actually in games this year. The defensive also deserve credit for most of the wins UNC has this year, if not all of them! Coach Kerr is the only coach on the staff that shouldn’t be fired. Being a former athlete for UNC, a former student, and now alumni it kills me to see this travesty continue to happen year in and year out with the football program. My support for the BEARS and the ATHLETICS will always be there! But not for these coaches and athletic staff.
