The Big Suck

75% is an exaggeration too....being as GCU is a private school, you would have to be on the board of directors to know the source of the majority of their income...but consider the source...

Wow!! Hello to you to. I thought the hatchet was buried. Guess not...keep those gloves above the belt Dude!

So...GCU is a For-Profit Instutution that has been under federal investigation for illegal use of federal financial aid. You are right, I don't know the EXACT percentage but the vast majority of For-Profits stay alive because of loans and grants...approximately, for my friend in Cali, 75% of all tuition dollars at For-Profits come from federal aid. GCU, I'm sure uses more than there fair share and after leaving their students with a degree that's virtually worthless also stick them with thousands in loans that they are unable to pay back. It's called predatory educational practices.

The BSC teams have not lost to a single lower division school... (22-0), all home games.
The BSC teams have not won a single game against higher tier Div 1 teams (0-22) all road games.
Against Mid-Major teams the conference is 19-46. Evidence of the position that the BSC is really in relative to all other conferences. I think they are the second worst conference in the nation.

Sac St could be the worst team in the country. They're 0-7 (0-1 Home, 0-4 Road, 0-2 Neutral) and 0-7 against the spread. One could have made some nice cash betting against the Hornets all season. They're losing by an average of 18.4 pts and have only lost one game by less than 10, a 9 pt loss at home to UC Davis.

Standings (D1 games only) through 12/10

50 Road Games: 4-46 (.080)
20 Neutral Court Games: 5-15 (.250)
92 Total Games: 22-70 (.239)

(Road wins were Idaho over Little Rock, PSU over Pepperdine, EWU over Seattle, and N Dakota over N Dakota St)

The Massey Ratings, which is a composite of 15 different ratings services, ranks the Big Sky 29th out of 32 D-1 conferences -- just behind the Big West and ahead of the Northeast, SWAC and MEAC.

4th worst conference in Div 1? Is that the worst ever ranking for the Big Sky? :-(

Just to add another current stat to SWeberCat02's good work...yes, I know the RPI is fluid with changes daily, but here it is for today, per ESPN-NCAAM:

UofU .4865 186

Current snapshot for stat lovers, like me. :coffee:

I can't ever remember the Cats being sub 300 RPI in the Randy Rahe era. However, Kenpom has us at 175.

NAU won a road game....against a D1 opponent even. After playing a talented Arkansas Little Rock opponent close, maybe things are looking up?

Four Big Sky conference wins last night and two on the road. UTEP and UC RIverside aren't the best teams but a road win is a road win.

I'm sad Weber State isn't playing in Flagstaff this year. That's always one of the games I try to drive up for.

Portland St 82 @ San Fran (-9) 78

For those interested in the latest version ESPN RPIs: Weber State moves from 308 to 288
(UVU went from 134 to 183);

USU is at 167

BSC: EWU 86
PSU 152
UM 180
UI 220
UNC 221
UND 232
(ahead of WSU)

For what it's worth, not much more than another snapshot, this source. :coffee:

With the end of the non-conference schedule upon us, there are only 2 teams in the Big Suck with a winning record. Eastern and Portland st. that's it. Like I said a few weeks ago, no matter who wins this conference they will be rewarded a 16 or at best a 15 seed. Hell even the possibility of the play in game to see who gets to play against the #1 team could be the prize....

And rightly so. The conference is 8-56 on the road so far. Only Portland State (who would have guessed the Vikings) has more than one road victory. Frankly I'm surprised at how bad the league is, and how bad Idaho State has been. Part of it I blame on terrible schedules -- other than EWU, nobody seems able to get D-1 games at home. But part of it is the league just seems to get worse every year. I sure didn't see it falling to this level this year.
