The Big Suck

With the end of the non-conference schedule upon us, there are only 2 teams in the Big Suck with a winning record. Eastern and Portland st. that's it. Like I said a few weeks ago, no matter who wins this conference they will be rewarded a 16 or at best a 15 seed. Hell even the possibility of the play in game to see who gets to play against the #1 team could be the prize....
And rightly so. The conference is 8-56 on the road so far. Only Portland State (who would have guessed the Vikings) has more than one road victory. Frankly I'm surprised at how bad the league is, and how bad Idaho State has been. Part of it I blame on terrible schedules -- other than EWU, nobody seems able to get D-1 games at home. But part of it is the league just seems to get worse every year. I sure didn't see it falling to this level this year.

 Still, there are several involved folks at various levels with blinders on that don't see it (or at least will not admit it). :ohno:

S Utah 75 @ Seattle (No Line) 89

28-79, 39-49-3 ATS

E Wash 56 @ 17th ranked Xavier (-22.5) 85
N Arizona 65 Illinois-Chicago (-9.5) 75
UC Riverside 61 @ N Colorado (-5.5) 77
N Dakota 73 @ Iowa (-11) 84
Idaho St 58 @ BYU (-24.5) 84
Portland St 77 @ Portland (-8.5) 75

30-83, 41-52-4 ATS

The BSC is 18-9 at home this preseason against Division One opponents, a 67% winning percentage.

The problem is that they have played 20 of the 27 games against opponents who are massively weak by the RPI. Only one opponent is ranked in the top 100, Wyoming (77), and Montana lost to them. Six other opponents are RPI'ed between 101-200 and the record there is 5-4. Remember this is only home games and the home game record should be at least 75% victories against teams between 101-200. The rest of the teams are ranked between 201-344. The conference shouldn't be playing so many bad teams because a winning record in these games doesn't help the conference grow.

Weber is 1-1 against Div 1 opponents at home. Their two Div 1 opponents have RPI's of 165 & 181. No top 100 opponents at home and too many non-Div 1 opponents. The result: a RPI of 284. Scheduling sucks and Rahe needs to surrender it to someone who can do a better job. Better yet, the AD should forcibly extract scheduling from Rahe's hands. End of story...

Things got a little testy last night at the end of the N Dakota/Iowa game.

The rest of the league doesn't call the UND Coach "Bush League Brian" for nothing...
He seriously is a douche. :twocents:

At least it looks like he has a new suit. I didn't see any stains on his shirt or tie either. He acted like a pretty big idiot when he was here for the Big Sky tournament a few years ago.

If you read the story and comments that go along with the video, it seems Iowa's coach is the one that is out of line....he even apologized for his behavior...after all, Coach Jones didn't steal the ball with a couple ticks left, it was Baldwin...not a reason for not shaking hands in my opinion...

If you pay attention to Big Sky basketball for the past 5 seasons you will have noticed that BJ's teams are pretty undisciplined and regularly do stupid things. I think North Dakota is the only team to have a player do a cart wheel in the middle of the game. Next time that UND comes to the nest, sit close to visitors bench and just watch Jones. The guy is really unprofessional. Sure he wasn't the guy who shafted the handshake but he is the chief clown in the UND circus.

That could very well be true...fortunately, my seats at the Nest are not near the visitors bench...I was just reading the rest of the report and it wasn't very complimentary toward Fran McCaffery but you probably remember the Montana kid (not even in uniform) run onto the floor with time still on the clock during the tournament a couple years ago....I don't remember the cart-wheel though..

Ok..now I see it but it was well after the game was over...not quite in the middle of the game as you stated...my example was during the game with a player not in uniform jumping around on the court and then diving back at the bench when he finally realized the game wasn't over...

There was a lot of controversy surrounding that tournament in the 1st round and in the 2nd. and both featuring Montana. Lets be honest, the tournament was in Missoula so they were going to get those calls.

the cartwheel was after the game was over and not an issue...only someone with an axe to grind would contend that it was in the middle of the game and

Weber state needs to improve. These are some areas where we can improve. I have tried to focus on areas that do not require more money.

1. We need to improve our content accessibility. Having our home games on KJZZ is a big step in the right direction. We need to get our away games on TV. Listening on the radio is a pain.

2. If we are unable to get all of our games broadcast to local television, we need to improve the quality of our streamed games. My phone will stream Youtube videos to my TV/XBOX. Watch Big Sky should do the same. Watching the games on a small screen is better than radio, but not as good as watching on a TV.

3. The Big Sky could innovate and partner with Facebook, Youtube, Netflix, or Twitter to stream games somehow. This would increase viewership.

4. We need a better schedule, D1 or do not play. The Big Sky should go to 22 Games. This would help/force every team in the big sky to have a better schedule. Replace the D2/NAIA/D3 with 4 extra Big Sky games, simple. Since everyone gets into the tournament anyway, why not have every team play each other twice?

5. We need to win the big sky more. In Rahe's 10 years, we have went to the NCAA's 3 times, that is 30%. This is really good. I wish we could raise this to 50%.
