“That's my alma mater, that's where I learned to become a man and it taught me about life a lot,” Collins said. “So any time my name comes up in connection with the University of Northern Colorado, it is always an honor and a privilege.”
"Honor and privilage to be considered" dosen't say I would love to come back to UNC. No not all out of state kids are on scholarship because many of them are walk ons. Some of these walk ons have earned some scholarship money because of their hard work. A guy like Lee Barbiasz was a walk on tight end with no scholarship, but willingly switched to O-line and has earned more money each year. As far as depth on the line, Many of the guys brought in over the last 3-4 ears were Dennis Darnell's recruits and none of them have panned out except for Nic Candler, and many of them are not on the team anymore. Of the starting O-line this past season, Cody gilmore and Amal Gumbs are converted D-lineman, and Lee Barbiasz is a converted walk on tight end.
If he's not interested in the job why didn't he just say so? Also, he probably wouldn't had taken the first step and applied in the first place if he wasn't interested. If he has signed on to coach at Alcorn I'll be the first to apologize, but something is messed up.
Again, this is on the Alcorn State website under University Relations:
However, maybe there's a clause in his contract that lets him out (free of charge) if his Alma Mater comes calling.

Coach Collins
Coach Collins acquired a contract extension and a renewed enthusiasm for the game.
Alcorn State, MS - Dr. George E. Ross has announced that Earnest Collins will receive a three-year contract to continue as head coach of the Alcorn State Braves football program.
The Braves (3-6, 3-4) sat alone in first place in the Eastern Division midway through the season after being picked to finish last. Alcorn couldn't hold on, but the win against Jackson State gave the program three wins for the first time since 2006 when the team finished 6-5.
Collins coached the Alcorn State Braves this season on a one-year deal and advanced in the conference much better than anyone expected.
Head football coach Earnest E. Collins, Jr. agreed on a new three-year contract that runs through the 2012 season. “We are delighted that Coach Collins will continue to lead the Alcorn State University Braves football program. He and the entire football staff share the University’s vision for excellence and they care about the welfare of our student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom,” said Mrs. Brenda T. Square, interim director of athletics.
In 2008, he served as the defensive coordinator/associate head coach for the Braves. Prior to joining the Braves’ staff, Collins spent a year coaching secondary for the University of Central Florida, where the Knights ranked 3rd in the C-USA defensive statistics. Collins began his collegiate coaching career at Northwest Missouri State University as secondary/assistant special teams coach from 96-99. During those three seasons with the Bearcats, the team won two NCAA Division II National Champions (1998, 1999). After leaving Northwest Missouri, Collins returned to his alma mater, the University of Northern Colorado as the coordinator-secondary/special teams, strength and conditioning and film during 1999-2003. During his tenure there, he helped shape a defense that was ranked nationally from 2000-2003. When Coach Collins departed from the Bears, he became a part of the Jayhawks coaching staff. From 2003-06, he served in the capacity of the special teams and cornerbacks coach. During this tenure, he organized the “Character First” and “Mentors” program. Also, the Jayhawks’ defense was ranked 3rd in the Big 12 and 20th in the nation. Collins began his collegiate playing career at the University of Northern Colorado (1991-94) as a defensive back and punt returner. He earned All-North Central Conference honors following his senior year. He currently holds the Northern Colorado records for career (967) and season (497) punt return yards. Collins received his bachelor’s in kinesiology (physical education) from University of Northern Colorado. In 2000, he received his master’s in athletic administration from Northwest Missouri State University. He is married to Tabatha, and they have two daughters, Tayler and Marci.
