The PAC/MWC Dominoes Begin to Fall

Focused on the wrong things and had the wrong people leading. Unless we hear news soon, this is absolutely embarrassing. Absolutely no substance so far.

UC Davis’ chancellor didn’t go on a press tour to get things done. Worked in silence. Set the school up for now AND the future. Their FB is joining the MWC in a few years, make no mistake about it.

Shame, shame, shame on me. As a Sac State fan following its athletics closely since the late 90s, I should have known better than to get sucked into some non-narcotic hallucination being peddled about a new stadium and move the football up to FBS in the Mountain West, let alone the “Pac-12.” The track record speaks for itself.

And, to have your rival, that school across the causeway, as GreenArmySwarm so rightly put, did it quietly and professionally without the astroturf flash and bling of a media campaign pimped out on hope as a strategy. Those windows are closed, and Sac State will remain relegated to the ash heap of failed promises with its high school facilities.

Am I disappointed absolutely!

Am I doom and gloom NO!

SAC ST needs to announce a “breaking ground” date to build.

We need to be steadfast & confident.
We need a badass FBS Head FB Coach
We need some NIL Splash sign Talent!

If you guys remember. San Diego State was also stuck for a bit,

UCD playing Olympic sports isn’t a exclusion to us!

MWC should ADD both of us while they can.
UCD need to build their FB Stadium and raise NIL in YOLO County. Not easy!

The MWC knows that SAC STATE is SACRAMENTO!

UCD is Not Sacramento County or the city of Sacramento!

The city and county want FBS Football and we are still the only University in the City!

RELAX! Trust me I was shocked when I first saw the press release. Then I saw no football.
We had SAC ST in WAC Baseball long ago. Very similar.

Don't tell me to relax. Let's deal with reality. All your "we need" takes money. Where is the money? And, I'm not talking about pledges. Show us the money. Your WAC analogy makes no sense.

The majority of the loudness has come from the Sac12, not from Sac State directly. For better or worse, right or wrong, it has all been attributed to Sac State themselves.

It's a catch-22. You can muzzle the group that is actively trying to raise capital for the program and limit their fund raising. Or let them do their thing and get tied directly to their every move.
It is what it is. Dr. Luke got into the scrum and argued that it's not over. So we shall see.

Dr. Wood is doubling down. This is happening. I know we’ve be asked to be patient, but trust me, there is a massive light at the end of the Hornet tunnel of darkness.

The last time I doubled down was in Vegas, and I lost a month's rent. 😁 I hope you are right, Kadeezy.

Take a listen…I hope you all relax it’s tough.

RAT - Go ahead and freak out if you prefer. Sorry you lost rent money.

PAC or MWC are both good options for us!

I’d rather we had been the first invited. But sh-t happens and we play the cards that we have.

The MW has been vocal about only looking for a FB only member to round out membership and the fact that they have had FB decoupled from their Olys all these years allowed them to make this kind of a move. I expect FB to follow into the MW at some point, after they expand their stadium. There aren't many FCS universities that check all the metrics of FBS, but they are one of them. Lots of folks on twitter are dragging the MW for this addition but it's a good add for that conference.

That said, I'm not dooming over this news. Facilities have always been our biggest hurdle and we're not going to get an invite anywhere until the stadium is addressed. Even before that, a head coach needs to be hired and that will be the true tell as to where our FBS hopes sit at. An MBB hire will be coming in a few months as well, which will also be another indication on where this all sits.

I don't have a problem with how Dr. Wood has played his hand so far. Keeping the "formal" ambitions on the Pac tampered down and having an axillary group like the Sac12 working potential supporters was the way to do it. No one was going to show up at our doorstep and drop off a bundle of money to make anything happen, the only way is to get a PR campaign going. He put his name on the line and only a fool would do so with no backing. It could all just be smoke an mirrors, but we've gone over some of the moves that indicate that this is more than a dog and pony show.

My only knock on Dr. Wood is the lack of transparency on the Well status, and an update on the stadium plans. It would be nice to know where we are and when the anticipated finalization of the plans are. An update on the stadium funding would be nice, but I get why those aren't being discussed, especially if private monies are in play.

Regarding the PAC, they are still trying to cobble together a media deal that will be big enough to poach an AAC school (which has SMU exit fees to use towards paying members to stay). If the money doesn't materialize, they will be in scramble mode as the MW has been picking off potential membership targets and all FBS targets are off the table with the exception of Texas State/low level AAC members. The PAC also has litigation with the MW that will drag on, unless the MW decides to settle (but why should they?).

IMO, Dr. Wood has through the spring to get the stadium finalized. If it falls through then it'll be status quo for Hornet athletics for the foreseeable future.
