The PAC/MWC Dominoes Begin to Fall

Bet it’s everything BUT conference affiliation related
That announcement will need to come from the conference directly. Sac will announce this shortly after the conference.

I concur, Dr. Wood will announce update on bball facility, NIL #'s, HC search and possibly update stadium renders, but he wont announce finalized conference affiliation until the conference does. Or doesnt.

Correct. All Dr. Wood can do is deliver on the items needed that garner an invitation...items that may or may not have been told to him or his axillary group.

The MW has been vocal about only looking for a FB only member to round out membership and the fact that they have had FB decoupled from their Olys all these years allowed them to make this kind of a move. I expect FB to follow into the MW at some point, after they expand their stadium. There aren't many FCS universities that check all the metrics of FBS, but they are one of them. Lots of folks on twitter are dragging the MW for this addition but it's a good add for that conference.

That said, I'm not dooming over this news. Facilities have always been our biggest hurdle and we're not going to get an invite anywhere until the stadium is addressed. Even before that, a head coach needs to be hired and that will be the true tell as to where our FBS hopes sit at. An MBB hire will be coming in a few months as well, which will also be another indication on where this all sits.

I don't have a problem with how Dr. Wood has played his hand so far. Keeping the "formal" ambitions on the Pac tampered down and having an axillary group like the Sac12 working potential supporters was the way to do it. No one was going to show up at our doorstep and drop off a bundle of money to make anything happen, the only way is to get a PR campaign going. He put his name on the line and only a fool would do so with no backing. It could all just be smoke an mirrors, but we've gone over some of the moves that indicate that this is more than a dog and pony show.

My only knock on Dr. Wood is the lack of transparency on the Well status, and an update on the stadium plans. It would be nice to know where we are and when the anticipated finalization of the plans are. An update on the stadium funding would be nice, but I get why those aren't being discussed, especially if private monies are in play.

Regarding the PAC, they are still trying to cobble together a media deal that will be big enough to poach an AAC school (which has SMU exit fees to use towards paying members to stay). If the money doesn't materialize, they will be in scramble mode as the MW has been picking off potential membership targets and all FBS targets are off the table with the exception of Texas State/low level AAC members. The PAC also has litigation with the MW that will drag on, unless the MW decides to settle (but why should they?).

IMO, Dr. Wood has through the spring to get the stadium finalized. If it falls through then it'll be status quo for Hornet athletics for the foreseeable future.
There is a mandatory 2yr NCAA rule for moving to FBS.
Both conferences have to have X # of members playing football by I believe 2026.
Time is paramount, construction needs to engage asap, to have any deliverable by 2027/28.
I don't see lingering through the spring to be acceptable by either conference.

Hawaii is playing in a temp 15,000 seat stadium as their main facility was condemned. So, it is possible to have a rinky dink football facility short term.

Bball is the albatross and not having a perceived acceptable facility is hurting. Yes, G1C has graciously offered to host, but does the conference want to deal longterm with a 3rd party?

There was an article in the Bee in October saying the basketball capacity at The Well would be 3,000 expandable to 6,000. 6k would put it on par with UCD and even Gonzaga. That might be enough of a temporary band aid.

I'm anxious to see what it turns out to look like.

I don’t think we’re gonna get the WELL this year….

The PAC will get a waiver to be an FBS conference (assuming they can't add a current FBS member) just like the WAC did, but they will need to get to 8 football members within a few years at the latest. If the PAC goes with an FCS pick, it'll need to be made before July 1 so that new member can begin the transition ASAP (FBS status by the '27 season). I think a waiver can be filed to shorten the transition window but I'm not certain on that.

Hawaii was already FBS so their stadium situation never put them in risk unless they had absolutely no where to play.

Regarding G1, I don't see how the PAC would have any input on what agreement we have with them other than making sure that it exists and PAC programs aren't playing in the Nest or the Well.

I view the Well as nothing more than a mid-level Big West type of facility once complete. Nothing about the Well excites me other than it shows Dr. Wood was willing to raid a bucket of money to get a project done.

Take a listen…I hope you all relax it’s tough.

RAT - Go ahead and freak out if you prefer. Sorry you lost rent money.

PAC or MWC are both good options for us!

I’d rather we had been the first invited. But sh-t happens and we play the cards that we have.

That wasn't me freaking out, but just a rant greatly irritated with the lack of transparency and/or communication by the current administration fueled by a deep distrust built up over the years hearing talk but seeing very few results regarding infrastructure, as been chronicled here over the years. Throw in a lousy season, losing to arch-rival, and then seeing them with the announcement joining MW pissed me off. Doubling down doesn't seem like a strategy. But hey, at this point, whatever. As for losing a month's rent? Me young and stupid.

We are all passionate fans of our program

I can’t express how pissed I was when I saw that MWC post while looking at my cell phone as I was in checkout at Costco paying.

Until I got to my car to read I was about as pissed off and feeling betrayed as when Gloria N of MWC was when her teams betrayed MWC and went to PAC to blindside the MWC,

I still believe WE with a New FB Stadium are too perfectly located in State of CA to ignore!!!

This morning a received a text from a VIP at SAC STATE telling me. Something Transformational is coming!

Stay Tuned…

He didn’t tell me any more details than that. Even if he did I’d have to keep it secret anyways until it’s disclosed.

Yup. It feels like smoke and mirrors, but it's not. More like typical government inefficiency/bureaucracy mucking up the works. But, this is happening - and PAC is in play.
