The PAC/MWC Dominoes Begin to Fall

No stadium mentioned. Stadium won’t be torn down in three weeks.
We’re still talking government here. They wouldn’t plan/commit/pay for demolition before the possibility of an FCS playoff game (even though we know that’s not in cards now). Information on funding for the stadium project is coming.

I’ll just say there are deadlines to CSU for agenda items for meetings like this that are like a month+ in advance. And, before that they’re months in the works with internal admin, counsel, etc.

Without officially getting our PAC12 invite and know what our portion of conference revenue share will be you can’t do the math to complete the CSU bond transactions.

Hopefully the PAC12 gives us a thumbs up soon so that we can present our financials to get everything moving forward.

Bummer a delay but big projects take time. Not sure when the next meeting will be held?
Shouldn’t matter. Presser they said stadium getting built regardless at 25k seats. Why say stadium completely down directly after the season when they knew that was not true? Next BOT will be late January.

Maybe the tribe who was spearheading, no pun intended, realized it was all hot air and took their pledges and bought the soccer team instead?

Dr. Wood and Orr have stated multiple times that the stadium is happening regardless of FBS invite so potential Pac revenues should have no bearing on the stadium.

Regarding the lack of Board items, it's disappointing but just not a major blow. It just sets the timeline back. The stadium renovation (and events center) has been on the master plan for years, so we'll only see approval of stadium plans when it gets to that point. I was hoping to see stadium financing on the Board agenda this time around. We'll have to wait for the next meeting in January.

I have a hard time seeing Dr. Wood go through this whole ordeal with the hopes of the Sky River folks bankrolling it. I sure he was hoping to lure in some of that money, but at the end of the day the students were always going to be the primary financial backers of this project and that isn't going to change.

It does matter because conference revenue share affects the P&L formula.

YES… the stadium is getting built regardless of FBS. The thing I believe you missed is that the sketches we have seen are of a premium equipped stadium. (Graphics etc).

The base model and the premium level are two very different price points. Like a house without upgrades or a new car w zero upgrades base model.

The better income that we can factor as revenues in addition to passed referendums by student body makes a difference in how well equipped our new stadium will be.

Still great advertising for SkyRiver having great exposure for all of our sports programs.

Casinos need diverse advertising channels and SAC ST FBS would be a great network.

This seasons record. Won’t make a difference over the coarse of a 5 or 10 yr contract. YES. Time to start winning!!!!

This is a must listen for those interested in NIL, Sac State as FCS, FBS... The NIL Collective 3rd Party dude eludes to the fact that SAC might be in touch with Pac-12, MWC, American, and C-USA.

I listened to this last night. Sounds like NIL will continue to grow in complexity and significance.
The retention clauses are normal for business and I agree and see how this should be included in the T&C’s.

The Power 4 with an NIL Salary Cap of $21.5M per season is a solid Budget.

He pointed to SMU with a strong NIL and there success this season.

Our entry into PAC / MWC and the great job SAC12 is doing w NIL will position our program for success unless coaches are making bad choices in recruiting athletes and are stumbling in play calling going forward?

TBD 2 more games to see how these coaches perform?

**Another rumor I heard is that MWC is watching and waiting to see our New FB Stadium get started before sending an invitation. (“They want action not words on stadium first?”)

Having the construction starting w Base Model Stadium. I would ask builder when is cutoff date to add stadium premium upgrades? (Big Display Electronics etc)?

This would allow us to factor conference revenue share allocation into our Pro Forma / Budget for the facility!

PAC is preferred but I’d accept a MWC invite if it’s in my hands now! Rather than sitting and waiting for PAC.

My understanding of the pay for play monies is that the $21.5M is "revenue sharing" directly from the university allowable via the House settlement. NIL is 3rd party transactions "independent" of the university. I think it is 2 different buckets of money from different sources.

Regarding the stadium construction contracting, I've never done a CSU job but I've managed multi-million dollar capital improvement projects that have been structured to be built in phases under a single awarded contract. It can be facilitated in a couple different ways:

1. The Owner can issued a base bid with alternative bid schedules during advertisement. This would give the Owner the option to proceed with or decline alternative bid schedule at the time of contract award. An Owner may do this if they are unsure if they have the funding to construct the entire project with all the bells and whistles up front...or if the Owner is just hunting for estimates.
2. After the contract is awarded, the Owner can make a request for proposal to the contractor currently under contract to have the additional scope of work complete. There may be stipulations on this if the additional work exceeds a certain percentage of the initial contract value. Not sure what the CSU rules are but this route could be problematic if the additional scope is large in cost.
3. Another option would be just to advertise a new and separate contract for the additional work with a schedule "to start" at the completion of the first project that is already in progress. In this scenario, the Contractor on-site would have an advantage due to already being mobilized and would likely be the low bidder.

Point is there are multiple ways to get to full buildout, but first thing is first, Dr. Wood needs to get shovels moving for the first phase. I would expect no FBS invites until a shovel hits the ground.
