How do you think we will handle the speed of the game. Eagles overall team speed is generally pretty good in FCS games but this is a big step up. As you know Oregon is fast by Pac 12 standards, will we be able to compensate?

No. They will score on every possession.

RJ??? If you are taking bets I am in. They will not score every possession, but score they will. How many times will the Eags score? Shoot out UW or OSU style or are we shut down? As fast as they are, can they stop the EWU juggernaut? I don't think they can, I don't think Helfrich thought they could and he played fast and loose with our former QB. Won't he be surprised when we hang half a hundred on the f**ks. the mighty ducks are gonna look like howard the duck on that day (maniacal)

We will also score many many times. But with our defense the last few years, we can not hope to slow them down. This is an offense far more talented than the UW offense we faced last year... and UW ran all over us.

While it's true we gave up a ton to UW, we spotted them three early scores. One of these days the defense will make it easier for us so we won't have to pray for a missed FG as time expires. Will it be September 5? I don't know, but I'll be there either way waving the red and white.

Couldn't find a spread for the game in a quick search; will go out on a limb and say Oregon is favored. :D

Like your outlook 93bird, time to let go the past and embrace what will be. Lots of new to see this season. New DC, new scheme, lots of new redshirts from one of the best recruiting classes EVER, lots of competition for jobs and lots of UPSIDE. Great continuity on the coaching staff and on the offensive line and WR's will help too. Thank our lucky stars.

So you're telling me there's a chance...

I have no doubt that we give Oregon a better game then half of the PAC 12 teams. We hang with the Ducks and keep it within 2 scores. We won't get steam rolled unless we turn it over 3 plus times.

Eastern has done a good job of mining talent from Oregon and this year's class was no exception.

Assuming EWU is highly competitive against Oregon on the 5th, will Helfrich start making preferred walk-on invitations to more Eastern recruits in the future?

Can't wait for this game, been a long time brewing. Vernon transferring to OU for his 5th season trying to get PAC 12 and NFL attention. On the other side, Eastern trying to break through for an epic win on the road vs a top 10 ranked team. The nice thing about this match-up, is EWU will know EVERYTHING about their opposing QB, whether they can stop him or not is the big question. Eastern has schemed against him in practices for the last 3 years as starting QB, so advantage to EWU. Oregon will have superior skill players over Eastern, but that MAY only matter on the ground rushing attack. I really do think EWU defense will be up for the challenge vs VA and the OU passing game. If the other OU QB starts and plays, this will be advantage to EWU, NO real game experience except for Mariotta mop up duty last year. I saw the ESPN headline that said, "Oregon should have no problem against Eastern", I love it as the Washington Huskies thought the same and did win 30-27, and 59-52 in the past years. And Oregon State, at #25 LOST 49-46 in THEIR house, not to mention in the same year EWU BEAT Idaho 17-3 away, and lost to WSU 24-20 on the road. Anyone who thinks Eastern will get steam rolled by an over rated OU team, well, your CRAZY!!

Oregon is "UO" -- Oklahoma is "OU."

I like EWU's O -- fun to watch. Really good coaching, clearly. And I quite enjoyed your recent games with UW and (especially) Beavis.

I can't say I see how your conclusion that this will be competitive follows from your premises. EWU beat a #25 team in 2013 (while surrendering 46 points), lost a competitive game to a shaky WSU in 2012, and beat a bad Idaho team the same year --> therefore this will be a competitive game vs an Oregon team that played for a national title at the highest level last year.

Oregon is talented on D, and ridiculously stacked on O. Assuming only adequate QB play from Oregon (btw, who is EWU's QB this year?), this is highly unlikely to be close.

Adams will be starting:

Haha, until Oregon wins anything that matters anyone can call them what they want so OU it is, although that's disrespectful to Oklahoma...

.

This is a terrible argument. You are ripping us for games that your now current QB played in...

Oregon should beat EWU but everyone will be happy when we can go back to reality and the ducks win 8 games a year and their fan BASE jumps back off the wagon...

Ripping? No -- merely pointing out that those games hardly constitute a reason to think this will be competitive. That EWU beat Oregon State and gave UW more than they wanted is a testament to relatively high level of talent on EWU, very good coaching, and the heroics of Vernon Adams. ...it just doesn't suggest that EWU can do the same to Oregon (a team so loaded on the offense that Bralon freakin' Addison is a second string receiver).

Just giving you a hard time as I do t like Oregon. I think the ducks win big against us but I think they struggle in the pac 12 this year. Adams is a good qb but he throws a ton of 50/50 balls that good defenses week in, week out will take advantage of. I think you guys will really struggle against MSU

This is becoming an annual theme. [insert PAC-12 team] sees us as an easy win and laughs when we say we'll come to compete. Then we go into said PAC-12 schools house and give them one of their closes games. I doubt EWU wins this game, or is even as close as the past games have been but we'll do better than any other body bag game Oregon has played in the past (Tennesee Tech, Nichols St, Wyoming, South Dakota).

We put 52 points (and that was with 2 turnovers) on a UW team that lost 3 defensive players to the 1st round of the NFL draft. We torched a young UW secondary last year and EWU will put points up on Oregon's secondary this year.

Its the same old drill; PAC-12 team writes us off, we play well, earn some respect but said PAC-12 team writes it off to [insert any excuse here] instead of the fact that EWU has one of the best football programs in the West, among all the divisions.

Yeah, I expect his lack of familiarity with the system will cost Oregon vs MSU. That's going to be a tough slog in E. Lansing.
