VA out 3 to 6 weeks with broken foot

Total speculation here, but my guess is 4 weeks before he suits up again (Montana game), and playoffs before he plays again. Total guess, but what hasn't been mentioned in this thread is that he also suffered an MCL sprain along with the broken foot. I'm not sure how that effects the overall recovery time, but I think us fans should hunker down and get used to the idea that West will probably be leading the offense for the duration of the regular season. Sucks to think that VA may only get to play in half the games his Junior year, but it is what it is.

MCL? I haven't heard this, you have a source?

I guess better an MCL than an ACL. Still not a good injury.

Thanks for the follow ups. I am always a little skeptical of internet rumors, but it's good to hear that it sounds like he is progressing on schedule.
Internet rumors are darn near my exclusive source of information.

Video interview I'll post it in the morning.

At game today VA looking pretty mobile, no cast, no orthopedic boot. Just crazy designed socks in normal looking shower sandals. Had crutches but wasn't using them all the time. He was "weight-bearing". My own opinion, he must be healing well. :thumb: :thumb:

I've always heard bones heal best when there is NO mobility, Is there any benefit in not wearing the boot?

Rehabilitation of an mcl includes movement, as long as it isn't side to side. I think this is something Dopa might be able to answer.

Haven't seen any confirmation of the MCL. Is it best for a bone fracture to move around?

Google seems to say it is okay to move your foot to stretch and do easy exercises and such. I'm sure the coaches wouldn't let him walk around if he wasn't okayed by a physical therapist/doctor.

Damage to the metatarsals and/or MCL knee sprain have about the same recovery time, about one month. MCL grade 3 sprain would likely require replacement, so if that was the case, he'd have been in surgery already and out for a few months.

I suspect he'll be back for UND, at least suited up and available. Hopefully he can get some reps this weekend, but I certainly wouldn't bet on it.

Watching the end of the game Saturday as they were going to shake hands he looked like he was hobbling pretty bad. :?

Yes, he was hobbling around this Saturday, but it has only been a little over two weeks. I would bet he might be available for the Montana game. I have a feeling like these next two games are going to be extremely tough to win without Vernon Adams.

Man he belongs in a wheelchair and with a fluffy pillow underneath that thing . . . even add a couple of masseuses on that foot. Whatever it takes :-)
Honestly I am concerned about the NAU game too, but the way the guys have stepped up and looking at common opponents that NAU has played I am feeling pumped that we will do well this weekend.
Aug 30 - L at San Diego St, 7-38
Sep 6 - W at Abil Christian, 27-21
Sep 13 - W vs. New Mex Highland, 62-23
Sep 20 - L at South Dakota, 21-28
Sep 27 - W vs. Cal Poly, 38-35
Oct 4 - L at Northern Colorado, 17-24
Oct 11 - Open
Oct 18 - W at Portland State, 21-17

How do you lose to Northern Colorado? Also who is Abil Christian & New Mexico HIGHLAND?
South Dakota (2-5, 0-3) Obviously doesn't impress either. Them beating PSU makes me even more confident that we will curb-stomp the Vikings despite their recent success/challenge against us.
The only issue I see is playing in the dome and altitude. We should be fine.

The team will have a good week of practice, West won't have abother game like he did last week...and we will beat NAU.

I don't want VA to play vs UND. Every game I have seen them play, they have been classless and out to injure players. Jordan Johnson barely escaped healthy. They will certainly be out to reinjure him.

Better to have JW, a powerful pocket passer, than VA, a recovering from injury scrambler.

+1, Listen to EWURanger. He knows his stuff.

Also, 1mg of Ativan for everyone on edge this week.

On the coaches show tonight, coach Baldwin said VA was undergoing hyperbaric chamber therapy as part of his PT. PT has definitely evolved. Back in the day, we thought electrical stimulus and slathering DMSO on injuries was the cutting edge.

I would suit him up for the ND game but not play then I would have him ready to play vs Montana but still start Jordan. Him standing on the sidelines dressed and ready to play makes for lots of complications for the opposing defense.
