Weber State Recruiting

We have talked about him. Most of us know who it is, but just haven't talked about it much????? Texas recruit is a HS kid and is legit, and would be the star of the 2011 recruiting class.

I was talking about the transfer. I'm not quite sure why we're not mentioning him? Is there a specific reason?

As for the Texas recruit:
1. Yes, HS recruit
2. Not, AJ Price
3. Not, Holmes

I don't know if we are talking about the same transfer. However, there is one enrolled in school now. He will have to sit out a year, but he sounds really good. His name hasn't been released yet and I don't feel good about putting it out on a public forum until it is. He is a 6'6'' power forward from a major program. He was ranked as the 22nd best player in California coming out of high school. From the clips I have seen on him, he is a load inside the paint. I didn't see any outside shooting in his highlight real and he is not a high flyer, but he moves to the glass with authority and handles the ball well. I think he will fit in well with what we have. I think that the vissitor this week is a HS kid, I just don't know much about him. I am eager to hear what happens with Baker. It sounds to me like Baker is sort of a tweener, part point guard and part off guard. A lot like Lillard.

Unfortunately, his name has already been mentioned, but you'll have to go through a lot of posts to find it. Anyway, he is a good pickup for the Cats. As for Baker, I have a pretty strong feeling that he wont be coming to Weber. We wouldn't have the kid from Texas visiting this weekend if he was.

I agree

Yeah, I don't know why we aren't mentioning Mook on here either. Kinda strange since we talk about all the other recruits. Anyway, Shai Fields will be visiting Ogden sometime soon. He is a 6-2 150lbs PG. He is quick and can shoot from anywhere on the floor.

I am pretty sure Shai Fields will be on campus Friday afternoon. Apparently he is our #1 guy. Well, he and Jordan Baker are our top choices.

I just read that Shai Fields was planning a visit this month. I can't find anything on him in the last few years, but he was at one time one of the top players in the country.

2012 Recruit- Tim Derksen from Amphi HS inTucson AZ. Was reported on Rivals that he was offered by Weber
6'3" 180 lbs. in his junior year.
I've seen him play and he is talented.

Looks like a pretty good players

I just did some quick research on Tim. ESPN has him as a 91. Looks like he is a very well rounded player. He can rebound, pass, play good solid defense, and score; he is a lefty.

T J Taylor verbaled to UC Santa Barbara, Baker to Pepperdine.

Interesting, out of the 4 recruits we have been following for a while, I think Holmes is the only one we would have taken in the end. I think he is headed to Purdue, Baylor, or Texas A&M.

I don't know this as an absolute fact, but I believe Holmes was off of our radar several months ago. It may well have been related to the Frank Otis transfer. I had asked one of our coaches about Holmes last spring and was told that we probably would not go after him. He is listed at 6'8'', but is really only 6'6'', and his skills may have been vastly over stated. All of that, along with the fact that he had luke warm interest in WSU.

Shai Fields rated highly.

Jay Drew in the SL Trib blogged about David Collette, the 6'8" post from Murray HS. You guys are the most interested. He wanted to go to BYU, but BYU just got a verbal from a 6'10" Cali kid and told Collette that they don't have a scholarship for him. USU and SUU are also interested with the Aggies doing an in home on Monday. Contrary to earlier reports, Weber hasn't offered, and Collette has no D1 offers right now. I don't know how serious we(the Aggies) are in Collette. He's probably a mission kid. We're mainly looking at JC bigs for November signing.

Sweet.

I think Fields, Brown, and Otis will prove to be great recruits and future starters.

YOu are absoutely right. Out of the three, personally, I think Fields will make the most immediate impact. He is still growing, and could end up at 6-5. That would be incredible to have a 6-5 PG!! YIKES!! However, Brown is a player that I really have ended up liking quite a bit. He is a tough nosed kid that never quits. He is going to be a great addition to the team. Otis, he didn't have great stats at SMU, but then again, that could have been more of a reflection of the coaching staff rather than the player. I'm not saying SMU has a bad staff, just one that doesn't know how to develop Otis. I think Rahe and Co. will be a great fit for Mook. He has the potential of becoming a defensive beast, which, I think, is why he is going to be wearing Wildcat Purple.

Personally, I'd like Weber to have another Utah kid on the roster. I think, especially if he is going to go directly on a mission, that it would be a win-win for Weber.

The story on Baker was that he and his father sat down with coach, at the end of his visit, started making demands, and basically, eliminating any thought Randy may have had about signing him. I think we ended up with a better player anyway. Randy won't bring trouble on to our team, reguardless of their skill. Peperdine, obviously, doesn't feel that way.

We now have a solid, young, corp of guards and bigs. The next thing will be the extremely athletic small forward. The really nice thing is that we have a full year to line it up. I have total faith that our coaches will get the job done. That kind of player may well be the most difficult to get, with the right attitude. I expect that we will be on a nation wide man hunt. We may see a JC and a freshman signed at that position, next year.
Don't be supprised if we go after another point guard as well.
