Weber State Recruiting

A player that should be on our watch list for 2012, and has connections with Weber State, is junior post Casey Oliverson from Idaho, late of Simsboro Louisiana.. 6'9" 200 lbs and still growing...Brother signed to play for Weber State football a year ago...on a LDS mission....Oldest Brother played for Louisiana Tech..Coach Rupp.....so good Utah connections...Tech has already offered... another thought I had is in 2011 we loose Hughey a swingguard and Morris a center,.. I would think that's exactly the same type of players that we will sign in November signing period.... I know that Washington, Noble are part of this class, however...they are walkons...So I say that 6'2" "Jordan Baker" and a center Post player like 6'10 "Keane" is what were really looking for, unless player defections happen again... it seems like we have alot of point guards on our watch list, if Richardson isn't as good as we think or Lillard goes pro after this next Year they may be needed, but for now, it seems like a swingman and post is what is needed...what do you think? Go Wildcats...

Casey Oliverson has committed to USU already I think. Won't play until 2014 after mission though.

He has given a verbal committment to Stew and USU on 5/7/10. He has 2 more years of High School before mission his Dad says on the Saggie forum. The Saggie fans are excited about him on their fan board as he has been tabbed already as a top 100-150 recruit.

If he is only a sophmore...a lot can change. Sol Jensen verballed to Weber before his mission and we all know he has never stepped onto the hardwood at the Dee as a Wildcat. But, the Ag's usually always get their verbals to sign.

He wont be playing for USU for, most likely, five years...Riley Nelson was a lock for the Ag's too...LOOOOOL! I'm just playing George.

Some recruiting updates:

TJ Taylor (ESPN 92) has scholarship offers from: Weber State, Santa Clara, Harvard (YIKES), Boise State, and San Diego State. Remember all, TJ is Damian Lillard's cousin.

Collin Woods now has seven offers: Weber State, ASU, Colorado, Colorado State, UTEP, San Diego, Fresno State.

Jordan Baker still has only one offer: Weber State (I'm sure he has more schools courting him)

Johnathan Holmes has 10 offers. I'm thinking he is most likely off our radar.

New Player:

JUAN ANDERSON (6-6 200lbs; ESPN 86) F: Castro Valley. He hasn't been offered a scholie yet, but he looks like a decent player. He holds offers from: USU, UC-DAVIS, Portland, San Francisco, UC-Santa Barbara.
Highlight: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCRYSJZ5mK0; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_sqfw2lh5c

Stats: 12.9 PTS (Season High 33), 2.9 Assists (Season High 8), 6.9 rebounds (Season High 18).

This Juan Anderson kid looks good. He is from the bay area. I wonder if there is another connection with Damian? I also wonder if we truely have a shot at him? He looks like a real difference maker. He seems to have guard skills at 6'6''. I'd love to see this kid in Wildcat Purple.

Looks to me like our coaches are doing a great job in the summer, player evaluation, period.

Hope we can keep these coaches for a long time.

Just a quick note... JORDAN BAKER (ESPN 90)

Also..... COLLIN WOODS (ESPN 90) I had not seen a rating on either of these guys until recently.

I'm hoping we land at least 1 of the 3, Taylor, Baker, Woods.

I was told by a coach that saw Baker and Woods play ( both are on Arizona Magic Pump-n-Run this year) that Baker has better handles at the point and will attack more than Woods, but that Woods has a better consistency in his shot and can create more for the outside jumper.
Either would be a good "get" if it can happen.

I don't see us signing more than one point guard/combo guard and I believe we will get at least one big. That leaves the other spot for a wing type player. I think Anderson or a player like him would fit the bill nicely. That kind of athleticism is not all that easy to find. Jordan Richardson is a point guard as well, and if he works out like I think he will, it lessens our need at that position. However, we still have to be planning for Damian's graduation or turning pro. I think he is more likely to leave us as a graduate, but you never know. Anderson looks to me like he could play the 2 or 3 spot.

Woods has been offered by Northern Colorado, he has 8 offers. I don't even see Colorado (even in PAC 10) as competition let alone Northern, unless he gets offers from Cal, Arizona, or UCLA I think it will be between Weber and ASU???

I agree. I really don't see any of those "bigger schools" offering though. Arizona will try to pull the, "oh, you are a local kid, you should walk-on" crap, but that will be about it. If he does get another PAC-10 offer it'll be from CAL.

I noticed on ESPN that Brendan Keane is an 88. Looks like the Cats are going after some big-time players. Does anyone have any JC news? I'm sure the Cats are looking at a few JC kids along with the high school players.

It would be beyond amazing, if coach can pull off the triumvirate by signing Woods, Baker, and Taylor.

I’m not much of an optimist, but there is one thing I love about this info: The other schools of interest. My hat goes off to the coaching staff for aiming high and going against the BCS conferences for players. Not long ago, it seemed I would read about the other schools of interest and see SUU, other Big Sky schools, and worse. All that said, we’re all still going to die anyway.

Jordan Baker was in Ogden on June 19th for an unofficial visit. He also visited the Utes. From some Facebook snooping, I found this status update from him.

Jordan Baker Juss finished my visit wit Weber State it went great ! Got to play wit the guys lol ya boy got buckets of course

Hopefully we can lock this kid up, seems like a great player.

Frank Otis 6-6 230, spent last week in Ogden. He spent the last two season playing for Matt Doherty at SMU. He is thinking about coming to Weber or to a UC. He is friends with Lillard.

The more I hear about recruiting the more I realize how involved some of the players are in the process.

Nice find bigpapa. It would be really nice to get a verbal from Baker.

I wish I had names, but I heard a JC wing came for a visit and that two other recruits were here on unofficial visits. I wonder if any of them were TJ Taylor. There is really quite the Oakland connection happening in Ogden right now.
