Week 3 - HOMECOMING vs Sacramento State

Big test for several reasons...before season began this is my first penciled in win for the Wildcats. Now, I'm nervous. Think this could be a make or break game for the season. Not to add any pressure on the Wildcats to get on track & have a good game on both sides against a beatable foe, as Coach Hill appears mad or at least disgruntled. Concern is could this be another downer of a Homecoming game? Don't put a smile on Coach Sears' face at the end of this game. COMEON WILDCATS, GET IT FIGURED OUT & TURNED AROUND!!! I'll be there cheering for it to happen, hope there's a good crowd. :twocents:

Is this a make-or-break game for the 'cats? After the play in the first two games, can they loose this game and still have a successful season? It's right on the line for me. Sac is one I believed Weber could get a win at home against and is my dividing line between teams I thought they could and couldn't beat. I'm less confident now than two weeks ago, not because of the 0-2 record but because of an inept offense, very much including the OC, and no signs of improvement.

I'm still a fan of Hill and believe he's building this the right way. No way would I rather have Sears over Hill, however, big changes must come, soon, on the offensive side of the ball. Sears' offense was still worse IMO but not by much. With Hill I see a big upside, it just may take a few years longer that I'd hoped for. I did not see a very bright future with Sears.

This is a make-or-break game for me as far as being in a legitimate position to win a well played game. It's not a must win even though this team has to start experiencing wins soon. They have to show improvement and that they can play with a comparable program.

I think a win would go a long way to building confidence for the team that has been inconsistent in it's first two games.

Plus a loss makes the drive back to Utah County that much longer.

This is the first of three straight winnable games. I know we're all down right now due to the way the team (offense mainly) has performed but we all knew we would be 0-2 at this point. We'll all be feeling much better if in three weeks we're 3-2. Got to start seeing some improvement from this program before we all start losing faith in Coach Hill. Won't be good AT ALL if we lose at home to the HC that was replaced by the current HC. JUST GET THE DAMN W!

Let's have a great crowd out Saturday night at Stewart Stadium!!! America First CU offers anyone showing your AFCU card at the DEC ticket office prior to game day > four tickets & a Wildcat Football t-shirt!! :thumb:

I'll be there with the family. Looks like my decision to not buy season tickets is already paying off. Free tickets! And a free shirt! Thanks marketing.

Couldn't agree with you more. We all knew before the season started that you could pencil in two L's before Homecoming and a home meeting with Sac State. Yet, most of us saw the next three games as either wins or highly competitive contests. Only issue is, we really don't know what to expect from our team. We all hoped that Weber would show marked improvement over last season, which at this moment, based off our results, we can't really claim any sort of improvement. Actually, I kinda feel we are headed in the wrong direction. The defense is about the same, and possibly better, but the offense is atrocious. I really don't feel that Jadrian is the guy right now, or if he is, the OC definitely doesn't know his players abilities and strengths. Lots of scripted plays that doesn't give our players an advantage. Play to our strengths. Jadrian is not a passing QB. He can, but he gets his passing game going with his feet and rushing the ball. If Clark wants to pass, put in Billy. He is your best passing QB.

Sac State is a mystery also. They destroyed Eastern Oregon; only reason the game was close was because of garbage time points in the 4th and then promptly got destroyed by Washington. Who knows?! It looks like Sac is going to be more prone to pass the ball and that their defense will be the Jody Sears original. We all know what that looks like (seems almost like consistent prevent to me :| ). Should be interesting. I hope the Cats are competitive and get a W on Saturday.

Game Notes for Saturday's game: http://www.weberstatesports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=8600&ATCLID=210342889" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Zach Smith has been out with a knee injury for the past two games. I hope he is ready to go on Sat. Most MCL injuries are a couple weeks to recoup. The coaches might have had him sit last week just as a precaution. Yet, he isn't on the two-deep.

Also, was a bummer to hear that Tela was out with a hamstring issue. I'm guessing he will be back and ready to go on Saturday. He is listed as the starter at the WLB.

LOTS OF WAYS TO SCORE
In two games this year, Weber State has scored just about every way imaginable with its three touchdowns coming by offense, defense and special teams. Against Oregon State, Josh Burton intercepted a pass and returned it for a defensive touchdown. Against NDSU, offense scored on a 68-yard pass and Erik Wilkes scored on a 100-yard kickoff return.

Sounds a little better than reality if you ask me, but ya, all three TD's are accounted for. I'm not sure how much imagination is required, isn't there about 5 ways to score-- a TD & extra point covered 3 times here, a field goal & safety which we haven't seen. Any other way?

:? Talk about putting lipstick on a pig. It's not a good thing that your defense and special teams have outscored your offense.

Just hoping to see a Wildcat victory. Nothing against Jody Sears but I don't want to see him leave Ogden with a W. He wasn't the problem, but you don't let the coach you fired beat his old team that is supposedly on the rise.

The last comment about a "program on the rise", is there something that I missed?
WSU is a team that won 2 games last year. The fact that they had a few close games who cares. Do you really think that there was any teams out there that were ever prepping hard to play the wildcats last year. Let's face it, most teams thought it would be an off week and that they would let their 2nd and 3rd stringers play. I keep hearing the comment that we have 35 plus returning players. Who cares how many returners we have back when they all are returners from a 2 win team. I think some of the comments about how big the rebuilding process is going to be is starting to look pretty serious. Can Jay Hill really get the resources $$$ to hire serious assistant coaches. Remember the real value of assistant coaches is their ability to identify and recruit top talent. Based on the high concentration of Utah recruits from small schools and towns, the current assistants dont appear to be getting out of Utah county much and haven't showed much ability to recruit in So Cal, Arizona, Texas and other key hotbeds. So far outside of a couple of assistants, after their WSU stint is over will be back at the high school level or maybe the lucky ones can end up at Snow College. It seems like everyone in Odgen understands there is a real crisis with the football program, except for the administration and the coaching staff.

WSU ran 49 plays last week, and time of possession was like 20 minutes. Ole Miss of the SEC is averaging 79 offensive plays per game. I can name many higher but can't find much lower.
I have been amazed at the slow pace and lack of urgency that the offense has shown during the past couple of games based on the fact that we never at any time have ever held the lead. Not to mention we run the same 6 plays every game so why does it take so long to get the play in each series?

Well if you cant get a first down and go 3 and out on the majority of your series, its kinda of tough to run lots of plays..
The fact that our pace of play is slow is probably a good thing, gives that D another second to rest cuz they have been out there a long time the last two games.

Is Zach Smith still out?

And NCAAfootball...really, you are comparing Ole Miss to Weber State? Apples to Oranges bud. Ole Miss has played two patsies that they scored over 70 pts on. ALSO THEY ARE SEC!! Weber is in the Big Sky that is an FCS Conference. Weber has played two teams that are far better than the Cats. Oregon State is going to have a rough year, for sure but they are still a PAC-12 team. They were supposed to have beaten us a lot worse than 26-7. Did you really think the Cats were going to win?? Also, NDSU is a four-time FCS Champ, who shouldn't have lost in Missoula, but did, and we were playing them, at their place, after a BYE week, with a bad loss stinging them. I'm pretty sure we hit a buzz saw last week. It was expected that we were going to lose. I don't think there were any fans expecting Weber to be 2-0 or even 1-1. If the Cats were able to steal a game, that would have been unexpected and miraculous. Are there issues with the OC, after two games, against two high profile opponents, who's strengths are DEFENSE, YES, there are issues. Should we be concerned, 1-26 on 3rd down, YES, but to the point of abandoning the team and saying they aren't getting better? NO...

Were you even around 2 years ago? Need I remind you that Weber got thumped every time out in 2013 and that they needed a wind storm to win 2 games? Last year...we didn't expect the Cats to win more than 2013.; just wanted them to be competitive. Which they were! And this year, so far so good. The Oregon State game was unexpected. We did a lot better than I thought we would. NDSU, we did about what I thought we would. Remember the last time, with MAC as our coach, when we visited Fargo? I think the final was 42-0, but that team was definitely on the rise and so is this one. We need a QB. We all know that. From Hill's perspective, he is the best that we've got. Let's hope for a better showing Saturday from our offense. :thumb:
