Week 3: Sac State vs. Southern Oregon

The Hornets need to right the ship this week in the play down game. SOU is 0-2 and has lost some high scoring affairs. As much as we all (well almost) want to see Vercher start, I think the coaches will stick with Safron. The bottom line is the Hornets need to dominate this game and win comfortably, otherwise I think the Hornets will be in serious trouble for the remainder of the season.

SOU Stats: http://www.souraiders.com/custompages/football/13stats/teamstat.htm

14+ point win and I think the Hornets will settle down the rest of the way. :thumb:

A close win (<14 points) with some struggles and I think we can write off the season. :|

A loss and we can chase Sperbeck out of town with pitchforks and torches. :puke:

Thoughts?

We definitely need to right the ship this week, though i think if we get up by 3 TD we will Vercher. I do not think if we win by less than 14 the season is a loss, as i think we would still be able to beat No. CO.

If we end up 4-8 or so, I would imagine the admin would give Sperbeck at least a 7 year extension, see basketball coach extension.

Good points. And no need to look past UNC, but for whatever reason we have struggled against them recently. And their roster talent has increased but yeah that loss to a D2 is horrible. I would hate to be in those shoes come Saturday evening. I would love to see the Hornets jump all over SOU early so plenty of the reserve players get some action.

I'm going to say that Chris Broadnax will have a career day. Safron plays a half, Vercher and McDade get their shots later in the game. Hornets win 52- 28.

Warren has shown well the last couple weeks, so that makes sense. I'm sure Coleman will still get his touches (if not injured). I wonder if milanovic is getting a rest or something because I always thought he was right up there as a top one or two OL for us...

SOU is dangerous. Their QB Austin Dodge is a stud pocket passer. Regardless of the competition, he threw for 5000+ yards and 42 TDs last season (AS A SOPH!) and has good size at 6'2 200lbs. You will likely see him in an NFL camp as an UDFA after the 2014 season. Our secondary will be tested, for sure.

How the hell does a backwater college get Tim Tebow's coach to be their HC? And we get Sperbeck? :dunce:

Did you miss the words "high school coach" ?

I think he may have missed the words "Tim Tebow" too.... ;)

SOU did graduate all of their top receivers from a year ago but I agree the secondary will get tested. I hope to see some pass rush this game to ease the pressure on the secondary…but it won’t matter if the offense can’t get their shit together.

Prediction: Sac State 35 – Southern Oregon 17
Attendance: 6,245

Won't work, new expectation is that you average 11K per game.

Wonder what the consequences will be if they don't crack 11K?
I think they are shooting for an 11k season average, which is possible with Causeway and Montana at home. However I expect a low turnout this game. Coming in 0-2 without scoring a point, a play down game against a no-name team, the Mayweather – Canelo fight, blah blah blah. I heard there is suppose to be fireworks after the game so maybe people take their kids out for that reason. We'll see.

I think this is going to be more challenging than people expect. SOU has a strong offense that can put points on the board - Sac has not generated much of a pass rush thus far so I would expect SOU to put up points. On the other side of the ball SOU has struggled to stop teams at the DII level. While Sac has yet to score a point on the season.

Sac 31 (yes - we get into the end zone and kick a field goal. I predict 1 TD from defense or special teams)
SOU 27

Too close but hopefully a win!!

Attendance - 7,900

If it’s this close we can write off the rest of the season, and definitely give up on Safron.
