Does anyone know who is on our radar? I think Downing said we have about 15 scholarships to give this year. The first year for 63 scholarships. I hope we don't have too many JC transfer's, they usually don't pan out here for some reason. I am guessing we will target d-linemen and o-linemen.

The biggest obstacle for Downing is now to convince a kid to join a program that has won two games in the past two years.

:x :x :x

I dont think that Downing will have any problems getting recruits. But with a 2 wins in the past two seasons they wont be the type of impact recruits we need to return to respectable on the field.

He needs to try and get the recruits that CSU usually gets. They have some issues that should scare some talent south on I-25 and east on US-34. LOL

Why do you even care? You hate Downing.

Uhh, I don't think we want to try and get their type of recruits from recently. We all want to see better

I am obviously stuck with Downing for atleast one more season. I like us all would like to see a change.
However lets hope he does a nice job of recruiting for whom ever replaces him.

Bearsradio no matter how you look at it CSU gets better athletes than UNC on the recruiting front. Yes I know that they have missed on some players that we have landed(i.e. Doughty, Jackson) but in the past two years there has not been a single player that would get anything more than SOME special teams playing time at CSU on thre UNC roster. Correct me if im wrong.

First, you missed the sarcasm related to what CSU has recruited lately. Sonny was fired because his recruits weren't getting the job done on the field.

That said, I think a few on UNC's roster could have seen more playing time than you're willing to grant them: John Eddy & Joe Silipo come to mind, and I really think Andy Muns would've gotten as much chance as anyone in the backfield with the injury problems.

However, you're also comparing a team that was built on seniors for this year against recruits from the last couple of years. That skews the results.

But, let's be honest--when the hiring committee makes it a point that recruiting has to improve over what it was--well, then you know what the instructions are. That came from a hiring committee that included the most vocal pro-Dalton guy around, Tom Beck.

Beck was on the hiring committee? I am suprised because I thought that guy hated Hinrichs. Troy, who else was on the committee?

Silipo, Eddy and Muns, as talented as they may appear, there is a reason that they are not playing at FBS schools. Nice try though. I was apart of the recruiting of all three. UNC over any D-II school makes sense. However UNC over any FBS school doesn't make sense. They are all projection players. By the time they are seniors there MIGHT be case for them as real FBS talent but for now they need to focus on becoming better at the FCS Level.

Kyle Holman was on the commitee, Meagan Boone was on the Committee, Sherri Frye was on the committee. There is a guy that lives in the Greeley area who played for the Bronco's back in the day he was also on the Commitee but his name slips my mind. Any other questions beardown?

Oh by the way I didnt miss the sarcasm.

Bear2003 - I wonder how Downing feels about one of his ex-coaches coming on this board and talking shit about him. Nice. You've got a lot of integrity.

WOW!!!! Now my integrity is in question? Considering I have not said one bad word on here about Downing. I have only stated that he is not the right person for the school I am proud to call my alma mater. If I have said anything bad about him personally please remind me.

With that I will apologize to you personally beardown for getting your feathers ruffled. I didnt mean for my knowledge to get you all fired up and questioning my integrity.
In the words of Les Miles, "Have a grrreat day"

Former coach? I'm thinking he might be a current coach!

Or maybe that receivers coach last year, the dude with the dreds... or Chad Brown maybe... or that guy who took the fall for the illegal practices... or maybe that other guy that got fired last year... forgot his name too already. It's hard to keep track of all the coaches that have come and gone the last two seasons. :?

2 wins in the past two seasons and the lack of even being competitive in a great majority of games is saying a lot more than I am Beardown.

I thought Chad Brown had dreds!?! Oh wait, he coached like he was dead...my bad! :) Anyway, I know that Downing had some say on the '06 recruits and all the '07 guys, so lets not keep blaming Dalton for "Bad Recruiting". Right off the bat, reading the names Holman, Frye, and Boone (A.K.A. The Brain Trust) in the same sentence doesn't make me feel all warm inside. When it comes to decision making capabilities, these three just walk down the hall to Jay's office to look for guidance(and he couldn't guide a blindman down a 10' sidewalk with the help of a seeing eye dog, much less a D1AA Football program out of a losing streak). Obviously, the Scott Downing "Let's play like gentlemen" brand of football hasn't gotten us anywhere, so let's contact CSU and CU and tell them to send us "their tired, their poor, their probationary players that may or may not have committed murder." Then, we sit back and watch some winning football. Just remember not to read the police blotter the next day!

Bear 2003 - keep posting away, I enjoy your insight.

URSA - always good to see you lighten the board up with your insight!! Quit disappearing for so long. Those two week benders are going to be the end of you.

My intelligence attempts so far have turned up no names of potential recruits. All I have been able to get is that UNC seems a bit more organized this year but we are still running a distant second to Stitt at Mines and (URSA you'll love this) whoever the guy at Chadron is. I'll keep trying.
