2009 Schedule

Hey all, congrats on the excellent season you are having! I'm sure with a playoff run on the horizon, the 2009 season is the furthest thing from your minds right now, but I was wondering if anyone here had any details on your schedule for next year. It was confirmed this weekend in Grand Forks that Weber St. will play the University of North Dakota next season. Does anyone happen to know the date and location, and if it is a home-and-home deal? I'm assuming it will be at Weber St., and North Dakota will get a return game in 2010. Anyways, thanks for any info, and good luck the rest of the way this season!
 
To be honest with ya, this is the first time I've heard that the Cats will be playing North Dakota. I will get more info for you as soon as I can. I know that Weber will be playing Wyoming next year in Laramie, but other than that I've got nothing.

3 empty games, 2 fcs teams and one D-2 (or SUU, about the same) team to go with the Wyoming game? Who do we want to see the cat's play?
 
It would be nice to have a game vs. a DII school to workout the rust of the off season before you play the Cowboys. The Wyoming game could be very interesting, NDSU went in their this year and lost by a field goal. This could be a very winnable game, granted we do have some big hole to fill on defense but the defense has never been the problem for any of Mac's teams. Also Wyoming will be getting a new coach for next season so that could also play in our favor.

Only two empty games, I think. It seems that we are only allowed a 12 game schedule in certain years such as 2008. Next year is probably an eleven game regular season.
 
I believe the rule is 11 game season every year then every 4th season FCS can have 12 games. Unless of course you travel to Hawaii you can get an extra game - 13th game if your FBS. Not sure if the rule applies to FCS.

I'd love to see Weber play two FCS teams instead of any DII or NAIA teams (if Weber plays a DII, I hope its either Western State or Dixie State; might as well have an old rival or an instate team come to Ogden). I'd like to see the SUU rivalry renewed, and maybe get a Southland or another Great West team on the schedule (Davis, Sam Houston State, or Poly). Of course, I'd like to have the games all home games, but whatever... As long as it keeps the Cats on the national radar. As for Wyoming...that should be a fun game to go to no matter what the outcome will be. Looks like I will be traveling along I-80 twice next season.
 
Weber is going to play against Coloardo State on Sept 12th in Ft. Collins. This was found on the Colorado State website.

Bring it on. I am stoked about this schedule, it is tough, get our guys ready for a deep playoff run.
 
So far I am loving this schedule, but I do have a couple of questions. First why is Utah St. playing Southern Utah this next year? and why are we playing against neither of those teams? we have 2 very winnable D1 games which is great. Well now I gotta sit down with Mrs. AJWILDCAT to see which road trips she would like to go on. I know there is no way on earth I will be able to talk her into Missoula again.

SUU is a winnable game, WSU is not. Funny thing is if USU happens to have a good year, the win over SUU wont count toward the 6 wins to qualify for the bowl games. WSU or ISU would count, just not SUU. lol


As for road trips...

Bev said UM will probably happen with a bus, she is even excited to go on Halloween!

If I were to guess...

I think the school will take a bus to Wyo, and if we win then another one to Colorado State.

Then UM for halloween.

Also, not likely UNC as its the week before UM game.

I coudl see a PSU road trip if we dont go to CSU.
I could see an EWU road trip if we dont go to CSU or PSU.

I would mark down Wyo and UM as for sure. Also, a CSU trip is a guarantee if we can beat Wyo even though its one week later.

This year we had 3 road trips. No one has heard of 3 road trips in one football season at WSU, so next year we could see 3 more, why not?
 
It's always fun to see WSU play against FBS teams in a bigger venue. Unfortunately I'm not so sure that it's what we want or need. If last season is a forecast of playoff seedings to come then I'm not so sure we want too many FBS games. It's very apparent that a good FBS loss (Hawaii and Utah in '08)has no apparent weight when the FCS committee chooses seedings and who hosts a playoff game. I'm not saying that I'm counting out the Wildcats already but I know how tough it is to play and win against a FBS team. I think 1 FBS game a year is needed for a number of different things i.e. experience, money, etc...but more than that is a question mark in my mind. I think it would be smarter to schedule a good FCS team during one of those weeks instead of choosing between an FBS team or clean up game against a D-2 team. Even a mediocre FCS team makes more sense to me.

I couldn't agree more, the Wyoming game is a very winnable game, this one makes sense. However I don't know why you would want to play 2 FBS schools in the same year with an 11 game schedule. Not that CSU is amazing or anything but nows the time to make a schedule that plays into the Wildcats favor. You need at least 8 DI wins to make the playoff or win the conference. If we can split the FBS school no big deal, if we loose them both it could be bad for our playoff chances but if we win them both then Weber is ranked #1 throughout the season and on their way to the NC.

The only thing I don't like about playing 2 FBS' is neither of these teams pay a whole lot of money...

Play a biggie like Michigan or Ohio State and your talking near a million dollars for a game. Playing Wyo & CSU is like $100,000 if we're lucky could even be $50,000.

I'd rather play one FBS like DoubleNick said since the FBS games almost count against you for the FCS playoffs unless you can manage to win one of em...

I think we can beat both...but having just one FBS to worry about is better unless its a 12 game season which next year isn't.
