2010-2011 Recruiting Thread

EWURanger,
Along with Pulu, anothter young man is Chapman, 1st name I have forgotten. He played as DL/TE. He is enrolled @ EWU. Spoke with Coach Sawyer, he stated one of his hand makes two of mine. I do not have small hands, so he must be a "Big DUDE" ;) He is from the High School close to Mount St. Helens, think the same HS as Greg Peach, who will be attending the game.

My daughter and myself went out to see the Players leave yesterday. The Team was about two hours late taking off, due to weight. They were airborn approximately 4:59pm. I just heard Tim KREM2 reporting from Frisco. He said the weather is 67 degrees, and our team will be busy today. I think they will practice this afternoon, due to the equipment will not get there until about 10:30am. (Closed to the Media).

"OUTSTANDING NEWS" Governor Christine O. Gregoire, declared "Friday January 7, 2011, as "EASTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY EAGLES DAY". We will be wearing our RED on Friday. Hope you hooked up with HannahO and Hubby by now, you will enjoy them.

Got kind of sick seeing the team leave, and my daughter and myself was left behind. I will be seeing my Back Doctor on Friday at 8"15am. My DVR is set, and ready to go. Amazing how many of our former Players, and Coaches will be there for the game. Enjoy the game, come back with a "WIN" Go Eagles!!!!!Vic Wallace p.s. Amazing how "BigTex5, is helping out visitors coming into Texas, he deserves all the credit in the world. Even thou I am not coming, I admire what he is doing. Thanks BIGTEX5, I enjoy reading your directions for our Supportes and others. Vic Wallace

Zach Chapman from Mountain View HS in Vancouver is who you're talking about. He was from the 2010 list. I think he is RS this year. HS size was 6'5"/235 - but could be bigger now. Played both TE and DE in HS. With our depth on the defensive line, perhaps he'll be utilized as a TE. Then again, we do have both Ryan Seto and Zach Gehring, both Freshman this year.

EWURanger,
Thanks, Zach Chapman is the young man name, he is enrolled @EWU. I ran off the Governors Proclamation, it is great. Well the Bannk will be leaving on Friday @ about 5am. Band Director was also at the departure of the Players. Derck Deis, KXLY Sport, will be leaving today for Frisco. Right Now Dennis Patlchin, Tim from KREM2, are there in Frisco.

I came up with 61 former Coaches/Players who states they will be there. Alex Smart QB 05-08, also finished very high on the Navy Pilots Testing Exam, will also be there. Enjoy the trip. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

Vic - coincidentally, Mountain View HS in Vancouver where Chapman is from, is also where Michael Roos played HS ball. Maybe there is a trend here. ;)

Greg Peach is also from Vancouver, but played at Evergreen High School.

EWURanger,
Thanks for keeping me up to date. It is now 6:55am here in Spokane, Our University Band got airborne about 3 minutes ago. We here in Spokane are very proud of all of you that will be there rooting our team on, along with other personnel from other States to "VICTORY". All City Buses have on their Busses "GO EAGLES".

Spokane and there Cities in Washington are really into this Championship Game. Every News Station here, their employees are wearing some type of "RED", and they make sure they let us know. In about 9 hours will be time for Kick Off. I will have my Spaghetti, and Some Southern Style Catfish, while I am viewing the Game ;) . There are about 21 areas that will be having "Watch Parties". Enjoy yourselves at the game, and all come back safely to your destinations Safely. May God Bless all of you and your families. Go Eagles!!!!!Vic Wallace

Nope, he's a Prop 48. We've had good success utilizing this NCAA enactment...

I'm a former Eagle and live in the DFW area. I know Montana State recruits Texas 4A and 5A schools very heavily with a lot of success especially here in Dallas. There are a lot of good players in the DFW area that would consider a solid academic university like EWU as they do Montana and Montana State. We just haven't approached them and made them aware of the greatness of Eastern.

I've reached to the coaches and supplied some names of kids from the high school my son attends. We're a long time 5A state championship rival to Bo Mitchell and Andy Dalton's Houston area Katy High School. One of the kids who is interested in EWU is a 2nd team 5A all-state DB and DFW defensive player of the year.

Until things move forward with the EWU coaches, I don't want to disclose his name in public. Shoot me a PM if you would like details and a link to his highlights.

I'd like to know, I'll shoot you a PM.

You're right about the state of Texas. It hasn't really been a pipeline for us, for whatever reason. We have had a few pretty good kids play for us in the past, but nothing on the level of what MSU has done with kids like Denarius Mcghee, etc. That said, we did end up getting a pretty good one at the QB position. EWU did recruit him heavily out of HS.

Our main focus has, and always will be (IMO), to recruit Washington as heavily as possible and get those kids that get overlooked by the in state Pac-10 schools. And there are a lot of them. We also recruit heavily in the Bay area of Northern California for skill positions (Taiwan Jones, Mario Brown, etc.) I would like to see us get more Texas kids, because obviously, there are a *lot* of fine ball players down there. I know a lot of it has to do with the number of out of state scholarships we can offer kids.

'Hello, this is Coach Baldwin from the National Champion Eastern Washington University Screaming Eagles'.

And to think we were only known as the team that always gave Montana good games, occassionally beat them, and had red turf. Seems like just yesterday.

This has got to help a ton. :D

I caught part of the coaches show tonight on the radio, I believe they were talking to Coach Graham (i'm not positive), but he was stating how all the exposure has helped with recruiting. We should see the biggest difference in recruiting with kids that are currently juniors in high school this year. A lot of kids that are seniors this year have already given verbals this year and I believe signing day is sometime in early February, but the exposure is huge for their recruiting class in 2 years as those are the kids that are starting to look at schools now and with all the exposure against Villanova and Delaware, EWU now on the radar. He also mentioned that by the end of the spring they usually receive something close to 1000 dvd's of recruits sending in their highlight tapes, and this year they have already received somewhere in the neighborhood of 1500 and it is only January.

The future looks bright at Eastern and I am sure we will see a great group of new recruits sign this spring.

Even though a lot of kids have already committed, a lot of the kids Eastern usually gets don't generally commit until signing day. I gotta think this NC could help some of those kids that may be undecided up until this point.

BTW, the highly touted TE from Oregon that EWU had a lot of interest in (can't remember his name) recently signed with BSU. Bummer. You made a mistake, bud!

Exactly, look for a FEW kids to jump ship and de-commit in the next 3 weeks within the FCS/Big Sky Conference, happens every year. They are all taking their "Official Visits" with-in the next 3 weeks and this is where all the action happens. A NC shouldn't hurt in our case. The Griz used to be a slam dunk, not so any more. Also, Bozeman (MSU) is a really LONG drive from Seattle. I like Eastern's chances.

Notes on DB:

"RB Demetrius Bronson has left the team in search for more playing time. Who knows? We may see him back in town this September when Eastern Washington rolls into town. The Eagles just happen to have a need at the position with Taiwan Jones deciding to head to the NFL.|

This might have something to do with Chris Polk announcing he's going to return.

"But while Polk was staying, it was learned that Eastern Washington junior Taiwan Jones, who helped lead the Eagles to the FCS title this year, was leaving school. The Spokesman-Review reported that Jones, who had 1,742 yards despite missing the last two games with an injury, would declare for the draft.

One possible replacement for Jones at Eastern is former Kentwood High star Demitrius Bronson, who spent the past two years at UW. Washington confirmed Friday that Bronson is leaving the Huskies, apparently in search of more playing time, and there has been speculation that he could wind up at Eastern.

Bronson did not play in 2010 while serving as a backup to Polk at running back, and had 89 yards on 18 carries as a freshman in 2009. He would be immediately eligible to play at Eastern, which opens the 2011 season against Washington at Husky Stadium."

So looks like we're getting two transfers from UW, I'm wondering if they've got any more they want to lend us. I'm glad we passed on Middleton - he didn't do much at Montana, and it sounds like all the baggage he came with wasn't worth the hype. Doesn't even sound like he's going to be back there next year.
