2010-2011 Recruiting Thread

Nice. Good size too and he will most likely get bigger. I don't even think I was tracking him. Just goes to show how off rivals and scout.com are for FCS teams. Looks like we might be set at TE for a while with Gehring and Seto both Freshman this year and now a new recruit coming in for next year at that position.

this must mark the first time in history we stole a recruit from Montana!

also this was worth noting. "Of course it didn't hurt that Eastern Washington won the Football Championship Subdivision championship game a week before Withnell's visit. "It definitely (had an impact)," Withnell said."

definitely wouldn't say it's the first time. anyone know if he had offers from other BSC schools, I don't remember seeing in the article.

Looks like we might have landed a O-line recruit out of Graham Kapowsin HS , to be an Eagle, Thomas Gomez, big and athletic lineman had many others interested but choose EWU ! says the RED TURF and being N C had alot to do with his decision !!! GOEAGS!

Thomas Gomez, 6-3 280 Offensive Guard - Scout Recruiting two star Prospect- Washington Preps All State Team, Associated Press honorable mention - Also had offer from Nevada - had his officical visit to Eastern last weekend. He or his coach will have to make the announcement, Eastern can't until he signs his letter of Intent on Feb.2. Oral commnitments are only as good as the athlete's word, remember Stefo, the big d lineman who visited Eastern last year, committed orallly, then ended up at Colorado State.

AllWeatherFan,
We saw Thomas Gomez last Friday after we picked up our National Championship Hoodie Sweat Shirt. He is as big as all you have described him. Not being negative, he can put away some "GRUB"CHOW" He and about 8 other Recruits were in the PUB with some of the Coaches. They all seemed to be enjoying the surroundings, particular when the young females walked by. At least we know they are human. :D

The Championship Game was on the Big TV in the eating area. Recruiting lookes very good. Vic Wallace

Great news, I think Gomez might have been one of the more high profile recruits Eastern was trying to grab. Ranked #96 offensive guard in the country by scout.com. Sounds like this was his second visit to Eastern, as he had an unofficial visit back in September (believe it was the Montana game). As was mentioned, also has an offer from Nevada, but I don't know if he has taken a visit there or not. As always, these verbals won't become final until signing day, but I think this one will be pretty solid.

Here's a blurb:

THOMAS GOMEZ, Graham-Kapowsin
Offensive line, 6-3, 295, Senior
Bio: A two-time first-team all-SPSL South selection at offensive line, Gomez has full-ride scholarship offers from Eastern Washington University and Montana State University. Graham-Kapowsin sometimes used him in the backfield in short-yardage situations. He scored a touchdown on a 4-yard run against Gig Harbor.

so far one TE, OL, DL, and maybe a RB. I would have to think Eastern is looking for another couple OL and DL along with a defensive back or two. does anyone know who we have coming in as prop 48's next year I know the Pinson kid and Chapman but who else?

Tenton Pinson is NOT a Prop 48, he's been on campus with the team as a redshirt since August 7, 2010. Chapman however is a prop 48. There are also other verbal commits at this point other than what's been listed, but it's the kids parade not mine, so they can announce at their leisure. Things are looking up for EWU.

The recruiting season looks like it is off to a great start...we will hear a lot about the recruits in the next couple weeks.

My mistake, I thought I had read somewhere that he was a prop. Come to think of it, it might have been Andre Williams who I was thinking about. Pretty excited about our RS's and Props from last year and am interested to see who will make an immediate impact from this year's recruiting class. I could see Gomez playing as a true Freshman next year. Also, think about how many true Freshman contributed to this year's team. There were quite a few and can you imagine how much better that class is going to be next year? That 2009 recruiting class is looking really, really good right now.

Ranger:
Add to your commitment list: Jordan Tonani, Ferris HS Wide Receiver, Spokane All City, Washington Preps All State, six one, one ninety. We need local kids who are winners (Jeff Minnerly, Tyler Jollely, remember Jaime Buenzli, Ferris and Joey Cwik, Mead?) When you used to suggest an area player to Coach Zornes his response was usually, "He's a good kid to lose with". He wouldn't say that about Tonani, he is a winning kid from a winning program, and a great family. He was being highly recruited by Mike Kramer at Idaho State. I want to see his name on the important list, the letter of commitment list on Feb 2. Go Eastern, and by the way great job by Coach Baldwin and his staff. I hope there is some money for a raise for all of them.

Were recruits allowed to attend the big celebration last night as an unofficial visit? Any one know if there were any recruits in attendance?

E-Griz says Joe Dahl of University High has committed to the Griz. What is the relationship like with the Eagle program and coach Diedrick?

Thought it'd be a good idea to keep a list of players that have either given verbals or transfers that are rumored to be playing at Eastern next year.

Jake Withnell, South Salem, OR HS TE 6-5 230
Thomas Gomez, Graham, WA HS OG 6-3 280
Andru Pulu, Federal Way, WA SO DE 6-1 251 (Washington)
Demitrius Bronson, Kent, WA SO RB 5-10 228 (Washington)
Jordan Tonani, Spokane, WA HS WR 6-1 190

*Bronson still seems to be very much rumor at this point. As of 1/20 he was still listed on UW's roster, although this probably doesn't mean much. The signs seem to indicate he will be at EWU in the spring. Pulu seems to be more of a solid at this point, as he appears to be already enrolled at EWU.

I'll continue to update this list as the process goes along. I suspect there have been some other verbals, but we'll just have to wait to see who announces them.

Updated!

I'd imagine there were, since there were a bunch of recruits on campus last Friday when the book store unveiled all the championship gear.

Andre Williams was probably who you were thinking about from West Seattle, not Pinson. I do hope Williams and Chapman have been enrolled since the fall qtr of this year, if not, still inelegable. Must be on campus for all of 1 year with GPA of 2.0 or > to eligable for upcoming Freshman season after Prop 48 year. I do not know what or where these guys are, hopefully at EWU? Also, great verbal from OL Gomez, but seriously doubt he will crack the starting OL in 2011,. many, many guys ahead of him in years and experience. Most OL at EWU redshirt. Also heard we got 2 other OL verbals from last week. 6'5/265 and 6'7/250.

Williams is not a Prop 48 as far as I know. He's listed on this year's roster, which I don't think Prop 48's are. I think he was probably a RS this year. He's one of the players, along with Mario Brown, that we got out of California last year. He's still at EWU.

There might have been another couple of Prop 48's this year, but Chapman is the only one I know of. He has been enrolled at EWU. Not sure if Prop's are allowed to participate in Spring Ball, don't think they are. Vic knows a little about Chapman as he has talked to him recently.
