2010-2011 Recruiting Thread

If memory serves, part of the NCAA penalties that stood was a restriction on the number of prop kids we could bring in. Although I don't recall for how long and it may have already expired. Reminds me, I wonder if DR. Hamilton was rooting for us in the title game.

I was told Cody Hecker (Sandpoint) is a prop in school this year along with Zach Chapman. He was a 6 foot 210 rb/fb? in high school gaining almost 1000 yards, over seven per carry his senior year when he led his team to the 4A state championship game and was named to the all North Idaho team.

Good news from Boise, though I have not seen EWU linked to him on any site. Guess we'll see what happens in a little more than a week.

Nice grab for EWU.

"Bishop Kelly ATH Cody McCarthy (Boise, ID) has received numerous awards over his HS career, but perhaps none bigger than the honor he received on Thursday as he was named Gatorade Player of the Year for the State of Idaho. He played on both sides of the ball for the Knights and helped lead his team to a state championship."

I'll bet this, among other things, had something to do with his decision.

"McCarthy plans to major in physical therapy"

Probably was rooting for the side with the sexiest cheerleaders!!

This is a great grab for Eastern (Cody McCarthy)...he will fill in nicely at LB...Not sure why Idaho didn't offer this kid? Apparently Boise asked him to walk on. Montana offerred and I believe Nevada may have. We've got a steal of a deal with this kid, he has the tools to be a great player here.

Just a word of caution on McCarthy as in the story I linked earlier, there were no comments from the player or his family. The source was his former high school coach. So we will see if it turns out to be true. But if it does, it is a HUGE get for EWU.

to add to the players who have given verbals is RB Jordan Talley out of Jesuit hs from Portland Oregon. Looks to be a solid player who might have been overlooked by bcs schools. also had offers from Montana, Montana State, and Weber State:

Thought it'd be a good idea to keep a list of players that have either given verbals or transfers that are rumored to be playing at Eastern next year.

Jake Withnell, South Salem, OR HS TE 6-5 230
Thomas Gomez, Graham, WA HS OG 6-3 280
Andru Pulu, Federal Way, WA SO DE 6-1 251 (Washington)
Jordan Tonani, Spokane, WA HS WR 6-1 190
Cody McCarthy, Boise, ID HS MLB 6-1 230
Jordan Talley, Portland, OR HS RB 5-10 185

???Demitrius Bronson, Kent, WA SO RB 5-10 228 (Washington)???

Updated to add Talley.

Talley quote, who said he narrowed his choices to EWU and MSU:

"Both schools were fine with that time frame. Then Montana State called this weekend to say they had found a guy and that they were going to have to withdraw their offer," he added.

"I told them that was fine and that I would commit to EWU. I also told them I would see them next year!"

I was pretty high on Talley, so I wonder who this otehr commitment is the Cats must've just gotten.

Andre Williams was probably who you were thinking about from West Seattle, not Pinson. I do hope Williams and Chapman have been enrolled since the fall qtr of this year, if not, still inelegable. Must be on campus for all of 1 year with GPA of 2.0 or > to eligable for upcoming Freshman season after Prop 48 year. I do not know what or where these guys are, hopefully at EWU? Also, great verbal from OL Gomez, but seriously doubt he will crack the starting OL in 2011,. many, many guys ahead of him in years and experience. Most OL at EWU redshirt. Also heard we got 2 other OL verbals from last week. 6'5/265 and 6'7/250.

Wasn't Williams, it was Markeem Adams from West Seattle HS I was thinking about who was a Prop 48. I do not know if he was enrolled this year or satisfied academic requirements. So him, Chapman, and Cody Hecker seem to be the Prop's from last year, along with Devin Topps (sad story).

I heard that Markeem Adams couldn't get into school but Isaiah Jenkins from West Seattle is indeed in school and is a PROP.

I think that these are the current PROPS:
Cody Hecker (RB,LB)
Isaiah Jenkins (CB)
Zach Champman (TE,DE)

Yep, looks like a good one. Looks like his HS ran a lot of option so it will be interesting to see how we works into our offense. Not a big guy and doesn't run in between the tackles a lot from what I saw in that video. Cuts well. Also looks like more of an outside type runner with pretty good speed, so he could probably line up in the slot as well.

marc... really?? a good one?? He is capable of outrunning these high schoolers but that does not say much in college. Nothing on the video's demonstrated quick feet. I am not saying he is bad but am not excited from what I see.

Washingtonpreps makes it sound as though WSU is going to offer Talley since they lost Sankey.

WSU is just a nightmare. It looks like they're about to have another substandard recruiting class.

Dude, really? Come on....he has decent speed with 4.5 in the 40, cuts really well, and appears to have very good vision from what I can tell. My only criticism (if you could call it that) is that he doesn't always follow his blocks very well at times and doesn't appear to be much of an inside runner. That said, TJ wasn't the greatest at following his blocks either, so take it for what it's worth.

Hopefully WSU isn't now going after this guy, I'm excited about him.

The kid plays for a 6A (correct me if I'm wrong) school in oregon that went to the semi's this year. He has 50 TD's and almost 4000 yards in 2 years, he's at least shown he has the ability to be good, I don't know how you can not be a little excited by his numbers or highlights? He runs the 40 around 4.5, if he runs it under 4.5 the Pac 10 would be all over him, and it appears now that WSU will be with Sankey changing his verbal to UDub. If we are able to get this kid instead of WSU, its a big win because it is difficult for us to snag skill positions out of the portland area, this would be a nice get.
