2013 Recruiting: 17 Verbals

Glad to see recruiting pick up towards signing day. Looks like all the verbals had offers from other schools as well, which means we weren't the only ones that liked 'em. Braun even had a PAC-12 offer from Colorado (scout.com). Seems like we have a pretty good shot at kids if we just get them out to Cheney. Hopefully we'll have a bunch of official visits for our top targets in the coming weeks before signing day, because without that visit, they're just a name in a database with an Eagle offer.

Loving all these verbals...the success last year as well as 2010 has brought some recognition to EWU and we are starting to see it payoff with some great recruiting classes....

Does anyone know how many recruits are tripping this weekend and who they are? I noticed Sammie Long was supposed to visit this weekend but it looks like he's visiting CSU instead.

Long is taking his visit on the 25th.

I'm pretty sure the coaches were out on the road and players were free to go home for the three day weekend instead of hosting recruits. Visits go hot and heavy the next two weekends.

Coach's twitters=best resource. Even if you're twitterless like me go to Beau Baldwin's page and look for the assistants. They're there.

The only asst coaches I could find on twitter was Coach Valeria the secondary coach. Looks like he has been recruiting quite a bit in California. I'm really looking forward to seeing what players we pull out of Cali this class.

Do we ever recruit in Montana?

There's really no reason to. Overall the level of HS football in Washington is much higher than in Montana so most of our needs can be fulfilled by recruiting in state. For our other needs we recruit California ad Oregon, not much point in recruiting anywhere else. Maybe a couple kids from AZ here and there.

Always wondered why we never recruited Montana that hard, but I guess the Griz and Bobcats have a pretty good hold on the FCS talent there, and as Defendthered said, there is not nearly the talent in Montana as there is in Washington. Montana does have some pretty good high school football, but Washington has a lot more quality talent to choose from. Much more likely for the Montana schools to recruit Washington than the other way around.

Kind of more for the principal of it. If they have to watch their back yard they have less resources to get into ours.

Good point, but there just isn't enough DI talent in Montana to justify it. If you're going to spend the same amount of money on an out of state scholarship anyway, much better to get kids from California where the level of athlete is much higher. UM's roster isn't exactly filled with Montana kids, either. They recruit the same areas we do. MSU perhaps a little more of a Texas flavor, but same deal with them.

Saw a little while ago that Oregon State pulled their offer from Skyler Phillips. He's a 6'3 335 OL from Eugene. I guess Oregon State didn't like how he wasn't losing the weight they asked him to. Anyways he's looking at all options now and from what I see OSU was his only offer. He's a 3-star kid who dominated in summer camps against elite competition. Wonder if Beau and the boys will give him a look. He's got EWU on his list.

That would be a nice pick up but you have to wonder why they pulled the offer besides the weight. If that is it all we need to do is get him on campus and then get him in the weight room with everyone else and he will hopefully fall in.
If not as mean as it may sound you can always pull his scholarship after one year. Everyone has a job and you can keep it or lose it.
While you are playing ball if you don't hit the weights and do your homework people will pass you by you can lose your scholarship.

Yes very good points. No one wants a kid who can't do what he's asked. But the article I read on him, he seemed bummed out about losing the offer and acknowledged that he does have to eat better, get stronger, and lose some weight. I've only read good things about how this kid plays football though. A 3 star recruit on both Rivals and Scout.
