2014 Starting 5

All the speculation comes to an end in the next 3 weeks! Purple and White game on the calendar and the players are chomping at the bit to get going!

It's going to be a fun year and the team is loaded with talent! It's going to be interesting to see how all of our Freshman respond! Can Joel carry the team offensively and can Senglin avoid the Sophomore slump after an excellent Freshman season!

Bolomboy doesn't need to carry this team offensively. I think Senglin can as well as Golden too. I believe they make a dangerous backcourt to guard. Gittens the 3rd option then Hill. I look at Bolomboy as our 5th offensive threat. Even at that he will average 12-13 pts. Per. I expect Senglin will breakout with multiple 20 pt games. He's a great shooter much like Bamforth, and will get even better looks from 3 because he's quicker than Bamforth. Golden at the 2 will open some things open for him. I think our offense is too dependent on that 2 Guard shooter that it hurt us a little last year. It's nice to have Golden fill that spot like Hansen & Bamforth but with a little more versatility.

From what we have all seen in the past, we will play an inside/out game. The ball will go to the post first, almost every time down the floor. If we don't get a layup/dunk, then we will be going for the threes. We may end up getting a lot of our scoring from our guards, but it won't be for a lack of trying to get to the rim. We may also run a bit more, and look for early O a bit more, simply because we have the horses for it. :thumb: :thumb:

It's going to be fun hearing all the experts talk about why their predictions didn't come true! I think Coach Rahe has a surprise for us this season! Olds is right, he likes going inside out. What I disagree with is that he's going small! I think he's going big and strong! Weber is going to dominate physically!

There is going to be a lot of competition for playing time. These next 3-4 weeks are going to be brutal. I'm also hearing positives about the walk on that was added to the team! You can call Coach Rahe the Wizard, but this year he's also sly as a fox!

Walk-on? The kid from ISU? Better than the last few years. A kid who has experience is always a bonus.

I'm beginning to think that we could see a,

Senglin
Golden
Hill
Bolomboy
Hajek

I don't think anybody will need to come on here and explain why their GUESS is wrong. :dunce:
All I know is after watching them play a few times, I wouldn't be surprised to see 1. Senglin 2. Golden 3. Gittens 4.Hill 5. Bolomboy.
Could I be wrong? sure, but then that's why its called a "prediction" :twocents:

I'm thinking we are all a bit excited for basketball season to start. Love our Cats!! I can't wait to see how much all of the players have improved and developed. Bolomboy's summer in Ukraine could spell huge dividends for his development, career, and future. He knows how hard he has to work to get to the next level and the talent that is already there. He was playing against Ukraine's NBA talent too. So, he probably realized that he has a long way to go and that this summers experience shows him how much more he needs to develop to get to that next level. We will see in a month!!

No!! Those 5 are the returning letterman from last year. I will make my guess at the starting 5, but after the Purple and White game I will come back and take another stab at it.
1. Senglin
2. Golden
3. Gittens
4. Hill
5. Bolomboy

First 4 guys off the bench are. Hajek, Costen, Jefferson and Hunter.
I hope they redshirt at least one guy. Possibly Richardson? Maybe Braxton? He might be too good to RS. I have not seen them play once, so I have no idea. I'm anxious to watch the scrimmage.

That was my thought too. Is Weber trying to say something...but like you Wazzu, I don't see that happening. I see Gittens as being the best 6th man in the league and one of the best in the country. He brings so much coming off the bench. He gives the team a huge spark and just has a knack at getting the team and the crowd energized when he comes in. I like Golden starting at the 2.

I don't see Gittens as anything but a starter. He is a 35 minutes per game guy. He is the most physically gifted guy we've got, and he has really improved his ball skills from last year. He can play either wing position, knows the system, has the right attitude, and has high assist numbers for the number of minutes and the position he played. Beside that, Hill is not quite ready for full time wing play and you want his defense and rebounding closer to the basket anyway. I don't know who the first guard off the bench will be, but the first big off the bench is, most likely, Hajek. He could certainly be considered one of the best 6th men in the BSC.

I really Gittens too, but this team is so deep that you just don't know who will be the 6th man. The 9th guy in our rotation could start at just about any other Big Sky school. You could make a case for 8 or 9 guys as a starter. There is only one thing I don't want to see at the start of our games and that is those dam flash cards.

So even with as successful as Randy Rahe has been here, you still have to beotch about his system and the way they relay their plays? Get over yourself already. :thumb:

There is always room for improvement. The day you think you have it figured out is the day that someone passes you up. Randy is a great coach, but yes there is something that I wish he would improve and I am not the only one. Gittens and Senglin both would get unsure on the break last year on whether they should hold up and look for the play or take it to the rack.

That may have something to do with them being true Freshman last season as well. :twocents:

I totally agree. We have more guys that are new to the system this year as well that will get good minutes. It may not be as bad, but the relay system has to match the personnel you have.
