2015 Recruits

Yes.

They had a position for a blocking dummy. They said that I had all the skills needed to do the job. However, in practice they found an inanimate object was better at the job than me. They suggested that I continue to make ridiculous comments on this board. They, sometimes, get a chuckle out of it.

@VerbalCommits: 2015 Byron Nelson (TX) F Emmanuel Nzekwesi has committed to Weber State. @B1G_E http://t.co/eUVVUL7Hqn" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sounds like Weber just landed the next "Rev. Rodney Hood" and that's not a bad thing. "Glory be to God!" Amen, Brother, and don't forget God loves Weber State! :thumb:

With this commit, the Cats are done. I wasn't expecting much from this class, hoping, but not really expecting much and to be really honest, I feel completely blown away by the players who have committed to Weber State. Rahe has been able to get some really talented athletes to come to Weber. Each of these guys have a lot of potential, yes, to get to their potential they are going to have to really work but I feel good about these three. Yes, Riley is, most likely, headed out on a mission right after graduating; I haven't heard if he is or isn't but it would make sense. Yet, even with him leaving, McKay Cannon will be coming back. So, someone out of the three will need to red shirt. I really don't see anyone jumping ship from this years squad. No matter, heavens, I am really excited and happy about this class.

a really solid combo guard who can shot it anywhere on the floor, a legit wing, and a guy who can be a tweener or a wing. Athletic class! Very athletic class!

Red shirting a player does not free up a scholarship and it doesn't create another opening on a team. The only exception, that I am aware of, is when a player is declared medically unable to play and is then allowed to finish out their degree on a scholarship without it affecting the number of grants available on a team. Other than that, 13 is 13, is 13. There is no way to stretch that to 14 or 15, unless you are the women's team and normally get 15. The NCAA set the limit at 13 to spread the talent out and not allow teams to stockpile players who would never be used(can you say UCLA in the 60s and 70s). Back in those days, major programs would recruit players just to keep their opponents from getting them. :coffee:

You are right...13=13. Maybe compliance can clear this up for us, but from what we can tell, and this is dependent on Riley going on a mission, next season Weber will have 14 signed players on the team. If Riley doesn't that is 15. However, we never know what financial assistance/scholarship a player is receiving from the university. A scholarship is only good for 1 season. Some players signed in the past might be on a different form of assistance in the future. Academic or otherwise. Not necessarily on a athletic scholarship, unless they have signed a letter ensuring a scholarship from athletics. Then again, I could be completely wrong, which happens a lot. This is why I would like to hear from Compliance on this issue. Compliance you are being called.

There are special rules for walk-ons and players getting other forms of financial assistance as well. The NCAA has these rules to stop wealthy programs from usurping the scholarship limit by providing other, less regulated, forms of remuneration; like cash, for example.

May not be done. Jordan Dallas tweeted that he's making an official visit this weekend.

Big recruit. Jordan Dallas would be a good addition, but how on earth could the Cats possibly sign another player? Is anyone already planning on leaving? Are the Cats not fully happy about their current commits? I guess the Cats, if both Juwan Williams and Emmanuel Nzekwesi are both going to automatically RS next year and Riley is going on a mission, but even if both Juwan and Emmanuel RS how can Weber sign more players. Doesn't 13 = 13? ;-)

Just my opinion, but every year we've been seeing 2-3 players leave the program, in addition to those whose eligibility has ran out (and it's not unique to Weber, that's college basketball anymore). I'm sure that trend will continue. I think the idea is to always be trying to get the best talent available, regardless of numbers. Can't pass on a big recruit just because there might not be room. Scholarships and numbers can be sorted out later. :twocents:

I agree...maybe the coaches are also seeing the possibility that Bolomboy might not be back after this season. He has become a double-double machine. I'm sure Cheesus knows where the final draft information on Bolomboy was. He is, afterall, borderline obsessed with draft position.

I don't think that Bolomboy would be leaving after this season, but I didn't think Dame would leave after his Jr year either. I was wrong then and I could be wrong now. I do know this, there have been NBA scouts at our practices already and I think it will be a common occurrence at our games and practices this year. It's not just Bolomboy they are evaluating. There are a few of these scouts that Randy trusts and they will give him an honest evaluation of where our guys are at in regard to the draft. If they are a sure first rounder, Randy will push them out the door. If not, he will counsel them to stay. At this point, I am not sure that any of our guys are sure bets for the first round in the NBA draft. Maybe that will change during the season, but I don't think so. We have a couple of guys who are a year or two away from developing to that level. Can they get there? Sure they can, with some hard work and determination.

By the way, the scout I saw at practice a few weeks ago was not from the Jazz. He was from an eastern team. He spent 10 minutes talking to the team after practice was over. He had their attention.

I've said this before, It's great for our program that there is at least one NBA scout at every one of our games.

He is a big kid. I saw him on campus Friday afternoon. Sometimes recruiting sites describe a player and then you see them and they don't match the description. Jordan, in my opinion, was taller than what he was described. He is an athletic big, who can really move with the ball. He would be a dangerously scary player in the Big Sky. I don't know how on earth the Cats can possibly sign him, especially, with three players coming into the program next year (McKay, Williams, and Nzekwesi. Court is an automatic mission kid), but I'm sure the Wizard has a plan. Heard he was a really good kid. The players really liked him. They didn't get a chance to play with him, but they really liked him. So...who knows. Chances are good that he comes to Weber.

This is a basketball forum. But Mister is a decent addition. I've heard that Hill decided on a different direction. Better options I guess.

Are the Cats really done??? Armani Collins from Stuart Hall has an open offer from Weber State. He also has an offer from Cal Poly. Doesn't look like the Cats are done quite yet. Maybe Randy has been recruiting the entire season.

Armani Collins 6-4 1/2 180lb SG

Also, the Cats still have Isaiah Thomas from Oakland on their list. He is a 6-8 225 Center.

I am not sure this makes me feel really good for next season. We already are overcommitted by 2 players. This tells me that we may see more than two departures from this years team. There is usually a reason guys aren't picked by the late signing period. Once in a while you hit the jackpot. But most of the time the guys you sign in the late signing period are your plan B,C or D. Maybe Randy saw how well the late signing of Ian Fox worked out for Idaho State that he wants in on that action. Or maybe he realizes that it is time to stop trying to fit square pegs into round holes. Regardless, neither of these guys are capable of contributing next season.
