2015 Recruits

Any word about the recruits who visited over the weekend? Are the coaches waiting till get commitments after this weekend's recruits visit?

There is no word on a commitment yet. I think that there will be at least one visitor this weekend. I just don't know who. I noticed that one of the kids we had looked at, has committed to UVU, Truman Moore. Around the country, commitments are starting to happen on a regular basis. I expect that it will happen with us soon. :thumb: :thumb:

I heard the kid from Dallas was in last week Emmanuel. Did anyone get a chance to see him? He looks talented on film. The word is 2 are coming in this weekend. It could be a big weekend for the Wildcats. Usually after the first week the commitments start to roll unless a kid is just flat out in love with their first visit.

Great to hear!! Any ideas on who is visiting this weekend? Roman Davis, Juwan Williams, Jordan Dallas or Armani Collins?

Not sure which 2 are visiting this weekend. I did hear that one was coming from the Houston area. It is going to be a fun weekend.

I saw a recruit on campus today. Not 100% sure, but I think it was Juwan Williams.

Nope...I was waaaaay off. 4-Star Recruit Paul Thomas is here and another recruit. I couldn't tell. Might be Armani Collins.

So did anyone go and watch them play yesterday or are they only playing Saturday? Since I am not there hopefully someone gets a chance to see them play I would like to hear any comment from you experts. Plus it would nice to hear how our guys are looking as well.

I have watched our guys play a few times now and have seen all three visitors play. First off, any of these three visitors would be welcome additions to our team and community. All three were very athletic and talented players. As for this years team, we will be picked to finish first in our league and even with that, we are going to surprise some teams by how athletic and talented we really are. Every year, with this coaching staff, we have improved in some aspect of the game. This year is no different. We are deeper and more athletic than we have ever been. You could pick any five as starters and we would still win the BSC. I'm not seeing very many weaknesses. With as many fliers as we have, we could see a lot more lobs for high percentage buckets.

Dunk you, very much!

Nice!!! Good to hear we keep going after those kinds of players. We are going to compete with the so called boys better and better with those kinds of athletes.

Now that we have had these three visitors in, I believe that we will want to sign one or possibly two of them. I feel that we probably will hold off on bringing in other visitors until we get a yes or no from these guys. If they string us on more than this week, then I think we start scheduling other visitors. If you wait too long, other opportunities may slide by. You can't operate like that. Decisions have to be made. You don't like to pressure anyone, but that is the reality of it. :coffee:

It's been really quiet. Like waiting for the other shoe to drop. I do expect to hear something on someone this week. I would be surprised if there isn't a commitment within the next few days. Sometimes, commitments can happen without them being announced. Coaches can not announce that sort of thing. It has to come from the player. With social media the way it is, it usually hits the air waves quickly. :coffee:

I think we have a different recruiting challenge this year than we have had in the past several years. We have been recruiting higher caliber athletes and recruits have come in prepared to play. This year the team is extremely young, talented and deep. Even though we are bringing in talented recruits, I am not sure we can use the come in and contribute right away pitch. We are only losing one senior and we are fairly set at every position. There is a slight chance that Joel could leave for the NBA after this year, but I am not sure that is a real possibility at this point. I think the real challenge is finding the right players that are concerned more about their development over time than making an impact right away.

I totally agree, 02.

I also think that is the kind of players we have had in for visits. I know that one of them was only 16 years old on his visit. If that player commits, he would be entering college at 17 years old. All three were high level athletes who need some time to refine their skill level. All three have great potential but need an encouraging environment to grow and prosper. I think that we fit that bill 100%. :thumb: :thumb:

I just think that the play early and excel sales pitch might be a little more attractive to todays generation than the reality of redshirting then seeing limited minutes as a freshmen. It is hard to find high level athletes that are alright with the process taking a few years before they are a solid contributor. Even though a redshirt and a year or two of playing back up is exactly what these young kids need. I wonder if a few of our recruits may be deterred by the limited amount of playing time they may see their first year.

I have said it before on other threads but AAU is training young kids to think that they are going to make it big right away. For most kids, that is not reality. Everyone has told them since they hit their growth spurt at 9 years old that they are going to be something special.

less than 1% of DI basketball players will make it to the NBA. This is the best chance to keep playing and to get an education. Work hard and enjoy the experience.

Any news? Tal? Olds? Has anyone heard about possible commits? Any visits happening this week? Who are our top recruits. This has got to be the weirdest recruiting year.

Yes it is a bit of a strange year. Part of that is due to the limited number of grants we have available. We have had our top recruits in for visits and things went well. As far as I know, there have been no commitments yet. I still think we are close to getting commitments from one or two of them. It is quite likely that we have only asked one of them for a commitment. If we get that first one to join us, the rest will fall into place quickly. I keep expecting to hear something soon. :coffee:
