2015 Recruits

I'm not really sure what is happening. I haven't had a chance to talk to anyone associated with the basketball program in some time. So, to be honest, I am in the dark. However, I think that the coaches are taking their time on who they will accept. For all that we know, all three of the athletes who have visited are interested in coming to Weber, and might have already committed and that the Wizard with his staff hasn't accepted any, just yet. Maybe the coaching staff is thinking of using all of their visits to ensure they are getting the best player for the program. A player who might not be the greatest right now, but one who can really develop over the next few years into a pretty talented and good player. A diamond in the rough. Then again, there could be a chance that none of the guys who have visited are interested and that they, the coaches, are still inviting players to come visit. Who knows. There is quite the log jam for mins the next couple of years. The Cats have to find the right player/s. Someone who might be willing to sit for a year right away and spend the next couple of years developing into a college athlete. Who knows.

Emmanuel Nzekwesi is headed to Duquesne for a visit. I think after his visit we should know more about where he is going to go. To me, I think, if he really wanted to come to Weber, he would have committed by now. Oh well...lets keep our fingers crossed that he decides on coming to Weber. He visited Weber, Tulsa, and now Duquesne. There isn't anything wrong with checking on everything available. So, maybe his visit will tell him how much better Weber really is.

Juwan Williams, from what I have seen and heard, hasn't made any other visits.

Finally, Eden Ewing is visiting the University of Nevada this weekend.

I'm hoping that the Cats should hear something soon.

I don't know of anyone visiting this weekend.

However, the Cats are high on Michael Kolawole. Weber State visited him yesterday. TCU, North Texas, UTA, SUU all have been courting him. He had originally committed to Fresno State, but decided to reopen his recruitment.

I didn't want to scroll through and post the link, but here is an ESPN update of the two players we have signed this for 2015 and another two that have offers:

Word is we had another recruit on campus this past weekend. Another big from Texas, did anyone see him or know anything about him. I think I heard he was from Austin or San Antonio.

I heard San Antonio and that the kid was 6-9ish.

If Nzekwesi wants the spot, he will get it, but he better make up his mind pretty quick here. If he waits too long he will start losing chances. Nice thing, for Weber, at least, is that Weber can wait around a bit longer than usual, because we have such depth and Weber has already signed two for this class. Even though, the likelihood is very strong that one is headed out on a mission automatically and the other is going to probably red shirt.

Rather interesting article on Nzekwesi. He visited Duquesne a week ago, but it looks like the Dukes are far more interested in two other players before him. At Weber, he is our #1 recruit. Personally, I'd rather go somewhere that I am that schools #1 instead of somewhere I am the schools third or fourth choice. Also, last I checked, Weber has been a better program, as of late, than the Dukes. But they do have a solid history and they are in a better conference. Doesn't prove you will make your way to the next level any easier because of conference affiliation.

Kyren Block? 6-6 SF from San Antonio.

Openings seem to be filling fast. If some of these kids are interested in a school, they need to be making their minds up soon. Opportunities are vanishing every day. :thumb: :thumb:

Things have been so quiet. What's happening out there?

I have a feeling that a few of these kids are ready to make up their minds. It makes me wonder what some of the people close to them are saying. Sometimes these kids can't make up their minds because the adults around them are not helpful or are not being truthful with them. We can only hope that the people these players are listening to are helping them make rational, realistic decisions.

Really nothing to report on right now. Personally, I feel that things are being held up because of 1 guy. And yes, we want that one guy to come to Weber. Hopefully this week we will find out where he wants to go and hopefully that is Weber State.

Tony Lewis committed to Santa Clara. That is a good pick up for them.

Good luck Tony. I'm thinking that you will have a good career there. I would love it to get you guys on our schedule.

Great pickup for Santa Clara. Too bad most WCC teams are too afraid to visit the Dee. That is the only way Rahe will play them. Traditional home and home. The St. Mary's games were favors. They were helping the Cats ensure that Dame would get another year and we paid them back by playing in their tournament that was rigged.

Tal;

I was at that tournament, and yes it was a lot of interesting officiating. However, St. Mary's was paying the bills and they sure were not going to lose on their home floor. They also had a really good team that year. I think we need to work on getting home - n - homes with some of these teams. I know they are reluctant to come in here for what they see as an automatic loss, and most of them don't draw big crowds on their home floors to make up the difference when we play at their place. We just need to keep at it and hope get a few of those games in the future. :wall:

I definitely agree. When Rahe first started at Weber he was able to get a handful of games against WCC teams. Weber played Portland and San Francisco, and we all know about the games against St. Marys. But, as of late, it seems as if those opportunities have dried up. Would be nice to see more games against WCC or Big West teams. Frustrating that those rarely happen. Would be cool to see a Big Sky vs. WCC or Big West or Summit or Southland Challenge. Something that will get more Division I games.

This is what we can expect. There will be enough walk-ons plus red shirts to form a scout team to practice against. Any players who could be in the rotation for PT, will not participate on the scout team. If needed, a coach may, sometimes, participate on the scout team. If a red shirt player uses the opportunity to learn our system and basketball in general, it can be a real advantage to them the next year, when they are in the rotation. The walk-ons have about a 98% chance of not being on the team the following year. However, the coaches will help them find schools where they will be able to play and maybe get a scholarship. The scout team is a huge part of the teams success. Without them, it is nearly impossible to prepare for opponents. :coffee:
