Another Beau Baldwin scare

I'm hearing through "unofficial" sources that this is basically a done deal. What I am unsure of is who he will be taking with him from the current staff. I hope that Chaves anticipated this and has a short list of candidates to replace Baldwin.
Well to add to that do you have him continue coaching during the play-offs?

Absofuckinglutely. How is this a question?

If he is focused on other things besides getting us to the championship and is distracted himself how is this not a question someone has to ask.
Going to another school there is a ton of things that has to be done before he is there. (Hiring new staff, keeping the recruits that are committed to Nevada...taking some recruits with him....taking some players with him). That is why I think this really sucks for the players to have this happen while the season is still happening. That is why a lot of the times in the FBS if a coach gets a different job somewhere else they don't coach the bowl game if they have one.

as long as all parties are agreeable I don't see why not. but I hope that it wouldn't prolong the coaching search and hiring process.

i remember that Coach B's contract was restructured a year or two ago. does anyone know if there was a buyout clause in it?

Nevada: Arizona State wide receivers coach Jay Norvell will interview for the Nevada head coaching job this week, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Sounds like they are not done with interviews.

How bad is it when someone chooses the dumpster fire that is Baylor over Oregon?
Oregon: USA Today’s Dan Wolken reports Oregon made a strong play for Matt Rhule on Monday night, but Rhule went with Baylor on Tuesday.

Great. Logged on just in time to read all this crap. I have a feeling we're going to get our asses kicked on Saturday because of all these distractions. FML.

Success breeds success and eventually this was going to happen. Whatever happens, I am very thankful for what Coach B has done with the program here. Who do you all think would be frontrunners for the new HC here?

Coach Hill (BSU)
Coach Adams (BSU)
Coach Best
Coach Lake (UW)
Coach Taylor
Coach Wulff???

I don't know if that is the best idea. He should be loyal to his new employer and getting things in place there. Remember Beau does not know what he does not know. This is a big step up from FCS and he has to get new staff in place to capitalize on the little bit of time left for recruiting. This is a critical time to evaluate commits and try to keep those that he thinks will fit into his program. And all of that says nothing about his current players, they will want some of his time as well.
Frankly I think the former coach being around may be more of a distraction than an asset.
Success does not happen in September it starts RIGHT NOW.

lol, no chance. that bridge was burned long ago. you must be unaware of the ncaa sanctions that got thrown on us after he conveniently left for WSU.
OH yah there is no way that is happening....he burnt some serious bridges when he left!

ok, so lets hypothetically say that the majority of this coaching staff is hired away and we win in the semifinals. who the hell coaches the team in the national championship? is Dick Zornes coming out of retirement?

We should be so lucky. 8-)

Honestly, I'll be willing to bet that they either hire someone on the current staff, or someone who has close ties to the program but isn't necessarily on the current staff (there are several).

And if they don't go that route, I still think that it will be a PNW guy, which probably rules out someone like the CSU-Pueblo Coach. Remember, EWU's biggest comparative advantage over the rest of the Big Sky Conference is the ability to recruit the majority of its roster from the state of Washington. HS football is highly under-rated in WA, and EWU is definitely the beneficiary of only having two major in-state Division I programs. There are a ton of in-state Big Sky caliber athletes, and when you can recruit those guys while providing in-state scholarship money it greatly reduces overhead. This is the "great equalizer" when it comes to competing with schools like UM and MSU. There just isn't a ton of in-state talent in Montana, and as such, they have to provide a large amount of out of state scholarship money.

Which makes me wonder - I wonder how Coach B will have to realign recruiting efforts at Nevada. He won't necessarily be able to fall back on traditional recruiting areas and will be more focused in California. As much as I'd love to see Coach Taylor take over at EWU, I am wondering if he doesn't go with Coach B to Nevada for that very reason.

Well, if it's a done deal, congrats to Coach Baldwin! The transition plan will be interesting. I'd guess Coach Best finishes the season as HC if Baldwin is out the door. I don't think Eastern would pull a QB coach (Taylor) and put him on top.

I bash on Chaves' scheduling, but hiring and retaining talent is his wheelhouse. We're in good hands for the future.

If he takes Nevada Job....I'd be surprised if Beau did not finish the season as HC. Dec 12-mid January is a dead period for recruiting so would not be much to do in Nevada. This team is special and he way to personally invested in them to turn his back on EWU mid playoffs.

Coach Taylor isn't just the QB coach, though. He's the passing game coordinator which is basically a co-offensive coordinator. Even though he has the least amount of seniority, I like his background and think he's the most logical choice from the current staff. Regardless, I don't think there will be any shortage of people expressing interest in the job but also agree with Ranger that it should be someone with strong recruiting ties to the region.
