Coaching rumors

I have a buddy that is a pretty big UM booster and according to him Baldwin and one or more of his assistants have been contacted regarding positions on the coaching staff there. I would consider this individual a pretty reliable source.

Why did this get moved? Seems a little unnecessary. Either EwuRanger or SE have been a little thread shuffle happy lately.

I moved it. The thread was definitely starting to devolve into a rumor mill type thing rather than any substansive discussion. I didn't lock it or anything, just moved it into the appropriate forum.

Not sure how much of a rumor they are anymore. Word out of Missoula, a couple weeks ago, was that Delaney was going to announce his retirement before Cat/Griz game, that happened. Baldwin was rumored to be a top candidate, or at least a hopeful from the Griz side, he is now mentioned in the missoulian as one. We will see how the domino's fall, but a lot of these rumors appear to be more facts than anything.

I still don't think BB goes, nor do I think he's their top choice, but its all interesting and definitely Eagle football related...

Baldwin to Montana...ha!

Ok, fair enough.

Yah, but would we still love him (Baldwin) as much if he went to the Dark Side (Montana).
I definitely would have some hard feelings, but wouldn't blame him as I would (unfortunately) see it as a step up for him in terms of pay/fan base (attendance not quality) and facilities.

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Sorry, I didn't mean to start a rumor mill. I was just reporting what I had heard. It could be something, or it could be nothing. I don't think we'll know anything until after the conclusion of the playoffs either way.

No worries, although the idea of Baldwin and staff going to Montana is absolutely abhorrent to me and I can't imagine anything worse. But you're right, we'll have to see how it all shakes out.

Truthfully, I don't really think Baldwin needs the Montana job. He's positioned himself to get a much bigger gig when the time comes and wouldn't be doing himself any favors by starting over again at an FCS program, IMO. Conversely, if he's content to stay at the FCS level for a while longer, why would he give up everything he's built at Eastern? I suppose there would be a modest pay increase involved, but there's a lot of other factors here. EWU is a proven commodity and he's proven he can win here. Just doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but I suppose anything is possible.

hope it never happens, but if Coach did end up getting snatched up by some other school, who would you guys want to see take over? Someone on the current staff or possibly someone with ties to the program coaching somewhere else, or someone completely external? i think there'd be several good candidates with connections to the program out there.

The HC is the general manager of the program. The best HC develops the best staffs around them. I would prefer a great manager to an X's & O's guy.

I don't even want to speculate. I am with Ranger. This would be one of the worst things I could imagine for EWU. Leaving for a step up to FBS is one thing. Leaving to go to our biggest rival and then coach against us is an ugly enough thought, I don't even want to consider it until it has an evidence of reality. Just because the Griz throw his name around doesn't mean he is seriously interested.

That being said, as Kalm said earlier, if more money needs to be spent to retain Baldwin, that's a bigger priority than anything else, including facility upgrades. He's a great coach, and a character driven person that I am extremely grateful to have representing Eastern. He has been able to develop a culture that I personally think is unique in the college football ranks. And that culture attracts a particular type of recruit. Additionally, I don't think Baldwin settles for recruits that don't fit his culture, even if they are more talented (though that is more an assumption based on observation than inside knowledge of decisions made). If the time comes that Baldwin leaves, I hope it is for a true step up, where we can all extend sincere congrats, and show heartfelt gratitude for the things he's done for the program without that gratitude being marred by coaching for the "enemy".

Dang, I thought Delaney leaving would be a distraction to UM, not to us!

At which part?

This thread had nothing to do with coaching rumors.... All you hijackers can fuck off.

Btw, if Baldwin leaves, I suspect he'd be leaving for a $500k minimum. No one in the FCS is going to cough that amount up. I'm sure that would be his market value as a coordinator at a BCS school or head man at a mid-major. If he were to leave, I'd suspect Best would have the inside track to the job.

Truth is that Eastern has been far better at locating coaching talent than any other Big Sky school. They do a great job getting qualified people to help in that decision making.

Well said, and I agree completely.

This got me fired up. Best damn post I have read on this forum in a long time. Go Beau! Go EAGS!

This whole discussion about UM coach and Beau leaving is stupid. Something started by Griz supporters to help with their recruiting efforts. A lot of folks on here fell into their trap and helped their cause. Congratulations on that. Delete this whole thing and chalk one up to egriz.

Unfortunately this has been a annual ritual for the past three years . . . ."Is he staying or going thread"
With every new coaching position that opens up the anxiety get's amped up.
This forum is a place for us to vent/hope/pray and show our passion for him and our team since most of us can't do it (vent) to our significant others about this because they either don't understand or care. :ugeek:
I know all of us would love to see Baldwin stay FORVER (I DO) and eventually name a stadium after him, but reality is what it is . . . .most if not all coaches are hired to be fired . . . . and everyone has their price or goals that they want to achieve - see Bisons coach Bohls for example he won 3-straight and was finally pulled away after 10 years ( 2003–2013 104-32 - Record 4 national championships). It happens. I really hope Baldwin is here for the long hall!
He is EWU FOOTBALL!
