hope it never happens, but if Coach did end up getting snatched up by some other school, who would you guys want to see take over? Someone on the current staff or possibly someone with ties to the program coaching somewhere else, or someone completely external? i think there'd be several good candidates with connections to the program out there.
I don't even want to speculate. I am with Ranger. This would be one of the worst things I could imagine for EWU. Leaving for a step up to FBS is one thing. Leaving to go to our biggest rival and then coach against us is an ugly enough thought, I don't even want to consider it until it has an evidence of reality. Just because the Griz throw his name around doesn't mean he is seriously interested.
That being said, as Kalm said earlier, if more money needs to be spent to retain Baldwin, that's a bigger priority than anything else, including facility upgrades. He's a great coach, and a character driven person that I am extremely grateful to have representing Eastern. He has been able to develop a culture that I personally think is unique in the college football ranks. And that culture attracts a particular type of recruit. Additionally, I don't think Baldwin settles for recruits that don't fit his culture, even if they are more talented (though that is more an assumption based on observation than inside knowledge of decisions made). If the time comes that Baldwin leaves, I hope it is for a true step up, where we can all extend sincere congrats, and show heartfelt gratitude for the things he's done for the program without that gratitude being marred by coaching for the "enemy".
Dang, I thought Delaney leaving would be a distraction to UM, not to us!
