Coaching rumors

^ Your Missoulian link is for the base salary when Mick accepted the job 3 years ago. He's over 160 now, before incentives, media contract, Nike money, camps, etc. I'd estimate worth at least another 40k (probably too low based on past coaches) + some other odds and ends (car, country club membership, other). By coaching the last 3 years, Mick improved his PERS pension significantly.

Next HC could be a great one. They have great facilities, deep pockets and an administration that sees the value of what a winning football program can do for academics.

The Griz coach rumor is that Delaney is gone, they're top choice is some coach from the mvfc and Baldwin is a fall back.

What Griz fans don't understand is that there coach isn't their major problem the talent they put on the field is. Watching the Griz the last couple years they just don't have the same talent they used to, probably because MSU, EWU, and NDSU stepped up their game and um no longer has pick of the litter in this

What you say about others stepping up is true, and its resulted in the BSC becoming more than a one bid league. However, the price of poker in the BSC just went up significantly thanks to the Washington family. And while the facilities improvement info was just released publicly in the last few weeks, recruits were made well aware of the changes in the works. No longer will outdated locker rooms, weight rooms and "pending sanction" rumors floated by opposing coaches limit the ability to land top recruits. With the addition of Womens softball and future construction of an indoor football practice facility, it would lead one to believe there is a pending move up in the future now that the big 5 have basically separated themselves from the rest of the FCS. It will definitely be fun watching how the chips fall.

So much for those who dispelled this as a rumor.........................

Thanks Mick for your service, now we move on to the next phase. :thumb:

By all accounts, Coach Delaney seems like a genuinely good man, and probably a reasonably good football coach. Congrats to him.

Joe Glenn?

Nah. Glenn is a South Dakota alum and he will stay there until he retires. IIRC, most of the MVFC coaches are middle-aged to older aged guys. So unless it's an assistant, I doubt this part of the rumor is true, either.

I don't think anyone doubted that Delaney would retire after this season.

I believe it's a UNI asst...

Why now? He and the University could have easily waited one week to announce. Will the distraction "rally the troops" or dilute their focus?

Good question. Perhaps to make it more public and thus draw in off the radar coaches to apply.

He really does.... Not treated too well by many in Montana, it seems.

I started an "contract extension" topic over on eGriz just to see the reaction. It quickly shot up to over 2,000 hits in a day! If you've seen the Big Bang Theory episode about "Meme Theory", that's where I got the idea. They might not have thought it funny but it kept me laughing all day!

Silly Griz....

Silly Griz....

His departure, planned to be "publicly announced" the week of the Brawl has been known for several weeks. Even Beau knew about it, just ask him. I'm sure he'll give the canned response "nobody from the U has contacted me about the HC position". Everybody knows those discussions are made through secondary parties.

Didn't Baldwin put his name in for the Weber job in 2011? He put his name in for their coaching position, its a smart move to position yourself for a raise with your current school.

Doubt we would see him leave for another FCS school.

Yah, but would we still love him (Baldwin) as much if he went to the Dark Side (Montana).
I definitely would have some hard feelings, but wouldn't blame him as I would (unfortunately) see it as a step up for him in terms of pay/fan base (attendance not quality) and facilities.

Baldwin was the second choice for Boise last year behind Harsin.... I doubt he'd go from knocking on the door of a seven figure job to Montana.

 :o  :o  :o  :o  :o  :o
Yours source (website) for him being the second choice? Or as close to a source that you can give without naming names.
That is the first I ever heard about it.
