Displeasure with Downing

If Downing doesn't go, some of OC staff needs too (Darnell, etc), we've all said it before on this board that Downing has brought in talent to compete at this level. But thats where it ends, he hasn't shown he can put it together.

Coach Downing lets his coaches' coach! He doesn't call offensive or defensive plays whatsoever! Defensively the team is solid coaches and players wise! What has struggled as you all know is the offense being consistent! The only time they were able to do anything this year was when they went into a hurry up offense! When they weren't, they were easily shut down because their tendencies are so great that defenses know exactly what is coming based off formations! Either, they need to change to a hurry up offense all the time or they need to have a new offensive coordinator put in place that isn't so predictable and that uses a defenses' tendencies against them!

I've been checking with this websitehttp://www.footballscoop.com/?cat=24 because I know the damn Tribune won't give us any news. Seriously, this is stupid. If Hinrichs hasn't made up his mind, then the Tribune needs to let everyone know. NOTHING SINCE HE SEASON HAS ENDED. IDIOT TRIBUNE.

Wow. That would be shocking, though sometimes the players are last to know when there is a coaching change.

I know many of the players and they meet with their respective position coahces yesterday and they were told that the staff is to remain as is. Maybe it is wishful thinking on the part of the coaching staff, but you would have thought the AD would have done something by now. They already know what they are going to do and the longer they wait the more difficult the recruiting situation will become.

Does anyone have any read on how the players would feel about this. I think they would be the ones to know if this would be a good or bad decision. They are the ones that in the end have to live with the decision. Us fans just sit back and watch the game on Saturdays and they have to do all the work. Anyone who has ever played the game knows when they have a good or bad coach and if they ever wanted a change in direction.

Really? You can just sit back and watch this team play without pulling your hair out and breaking things? Let me know your secret.

I'm trying to keep it positive, I'm thinking, hey, I can spend that money I usually donate to the athletic depart on other things like myself or hookers! 8)

I have had enough, as a former student and Bear fanatic while I was there I am ashamed.
Where is the pride that once played on the field the never going loose attitude that the team had.
I am sorry the teams in 1996,97,98,99 would have blown this current team into next week. And told them about it while they did it. If they are getting better then show me!!! Where are the 1st Team All Big Sky selections where are the draft picks? I don't see Tony Ramerize (sp) or Aaron Smith out there. I dont seen Scott Zimmerman #48 or #80 Jamie Heiner destroying opposing teams. Where is the Dillion Micuses or Keith Grables catching TD passes from Harlin Hill Trophy winners and NFL free-Agent QB's (Touchdown Tom Beck). A once proud program that I believe can and will one-day be proud again dont give me that they moved up as an excuse those teams I mentioned would have been just fine in the Big Sky. I have seen the talent level. The Old Bears would have been able to get it done. Maybe I even more mad at the fact the the I have no clue what NC is I know what UNC is.University of National Champions. It is time to do what is right!!! Fix the ship or do whatever it takes to make things right.

There is no way the DII championship teams would compete in today's BSC - no way they'd be in the top 1/2 of the conference. Being competitive in the Big Sky in football means you have to have a top 25 program nationally. There is no other situation in college sports where that's the case.

There is a huge divide in the divisions in college football. A team from one division can always jump up a bite a team on a particular day, but over the course of a season the difference in tallent/resources alway shows.

As bad as things may be, throwing out the current staff will set back the program. Add up all the salaries in the paper and now figure UNC still will owe all of those people 7/12 of that money to go away. Now you have to start paying a whole new staff to come here + moving expenses etc. . . . Can UNC really afford it in this climate?

Well comparing the 1996 team to teams in today's era isn't fair. Could the 96 team have competed in the 96 Big Sky? I think they could hold their own but it was a tougher conference then also, Boise State, Idaho, Nevada, etc. So really 1-AA is what DII used to be so to think we are so outmanned and outgunned is laughable.

And the whole mentality of doing things on the cheap and we can't do better than this is what got us in this mess to begin with. What we need is a Tad Boyle type hiring, and I don't mean a local guy or whatever, but just the right fit for the program. There are plenty of examples out there of programs that have moved up and competed.

Bottom line as a competetive person I just won't buy into all the excuses. Sure we have a ways to go but lack of resources doesn't account for all the penalties, flat play, poor schemes, choking in crunch time, etc.

I don't have a good feeling about this, wait till the first week of December to do something? Why can't he now? You either fire the guy or you don't.

If we can't afford to fire Downing then Jay has got to go. He is the one that brought them all in.
