FCS Kickoff: #1 EWU vs. #17 SHSU Game Thread

While I saw Ronnie Hamlin play, it also seemed like he was out of the game a lot. Any status on him?
No kidding, I think he must have been hurt. Was definitely not in on many plays. McCarthy seemed non-existent.

The running backs look really good. May have something to do with a really good O-Line
The O-Line looked great. Who was it that got hurt and had to go out of the game?
Do you mean the Eagles O-line was great? SHSU was putting pressure, a LOT of pressure on Adams with only three rushing. I thought all in all their D-line controlled the line of scrimmage.

Keeler calls a timeout when we are trying to run the clock out and the announcers act like EWU is running it up?

Keeler got exactly what he deserved by calling that timeout. The EAGS did not run up the score. They simply played to the end with ALL RUNNING plays, and SHSU simply could not stop it. That's just big-boy football.

Clawman, I want to look at the the game again because most of the time I thought at least four were rushing with quite a few stunts at times.

This. Not sure what all the bitching about is on the various forums. It's not like we were throwing the ball. Also, dick move by Keeler to call a timeout with a minute left and the game well out of reach.

Not sure what game you were watching, but Cody had the second most tackles I believe.

They brought constant heat.

Oline gets the game ball for protection against a solid front 7 and for 327 yards rushing.

What? Couldn't disagree with you more. O-Line did a stellar job against a lot of blitz scheme's that weren't on any previous SHSU film, so adjusted on the fly. Definitely owned the D-line in the running game. On the flip side, our D-line did a great job with 3 rushers against a returning SHSU o-line. Superb effort by the Eags O-Line.

I was satisfied with the way both lines played. Obviously, would have been nice to get a little more penetration into their backfield and pressure on their QB. What I noticed about this game is that it seemed like we played more man coverage and blitzed more. McDonald seemed to be in the backfield quite a bit putting pressure on their QB.

O-Line played well, especially in run-blocking. Over 300 yards rushing. That long rumbler by Moore for the TD in the first half was great! I saw it mentioned in another thread that they moved Rodgers back outside and I don't remember seeing #79 in the game. Anyone know if he's injured?

After rewatching most of the game, the D-Line pushed up field well, despite being outweighed significantly and as they would make the move back to the QB were held quite often (sometimes smartly from the middle of the jersey, which is acceptable to most ref's). What was effective was Zylstra bull rushing outside the tackle and Ekubam twisting underneath to put pressue on QB. This was there all day and we didn't execute very often. LB could have also made that move as the guard usually helped against the NT's. Game happens fast.
