FCS Kickoff: #1 EWU vs. #17 SHSU Game Thread

The passing game is really out of sync. A lot of these long pass plays would have gone for touchdowns last year. Defense looks much better than last year so far....

Disaster. Adams looks horrible right now.

Not sure why they aren't just running it. Forte has over 100 yards so far. The passing game is dismal.

Honestly, I think Baldwin should bench Adams at least the first series of the second half so he can watch things a little. Offense looks totally out of whack.

I really hope there are some halftime adjustments made, because that was the worst half of EWU football I've seen in a long time.
And that's why I feel confident going into the 2nd half. We've played horribly, but are still somehow tied in the game. If we can get a stop and get the offense rolling, we'll be fine. After watching their QB, I'm more concerned with stopping the big play off of the run than I am their passing attack, which seems non-existent.

Still working on timing. None of the starting WR's played in the scrimmages and it shows. Good news, the SHSU DL is not dominating. Run, run, run and make play action viable. If Shaq catches those first two passes, Adams settles down early. Now it is about patience and persistence IMO. Not going to comment on the situational awareness of the defense play calling. Maybe after it is all said and done. Team is working hard and doesn't look overmatched. :-) Go Eags!

That's what's scary. They are completely one dimensional and we haven't been able to stop the run. The corners are being left on an island and their receivers have been wide open, their QB just hasn't been able to hit the broadside of a barn.

Ditto Ranger. Team isn't overwhelmed and we are due a big play or two on both sides of the ball. SHSU cheap shots (knee in the gut was disgusting) have our players animated and ready to roll.

I was thinking the same thing but Hill dropped 2 passes for TD's and another play could of gone for a TD as well but either Hill ran the wrong route or Adams wasn't sure what the route was. I think had those passes been completed it would have given VA more confidence and they would be up a couple of scores. It probably wouldn't hurt to bring in West for a series or two. The running game is clicking on all cylinders just give it to the RB's until SH can stop it.

Yep, I doubt our offense could pay much worse than that (sans the couple of big runs), so I am feeling ok. I think if we sell out to stop their run, and start executing just a little better on offense, we'll win the game. We need some long drivers to keep our struggling defense off the field. The Sky is not falling, chicken littles.

Steady eeyore. We are all a bit edgy and this isn't a one man show. Breakdowns are to be expected and the team has handled them well considering the 1 2 punch early in the second quarter.

Our rushing game has been decent but we need to be able to make a couple of stops to be able to go with that game plan. And we're also going to need to start connecting on a few more passes. What's going on with our QB and wideouts?

Hopefully just game 1 shananagans. I think some of it is just pressure from playing at home in a big game against a team you've never beaten. We all know the talent is there. Just need to shake out the butterflies and let 'er rip in the second half.
