We may not have been hearing much recruiting news lately because Dec 23 to 31 (or to 1/3?) has been a dead period where there can be no interaction between coaches and athetes or family members at any location. I believe Feb 3 to Feb 6 is also a dead period for recruiting. Someone with more knowledge might want to explain the quiet and dead periods for recruiting at the FCS level.

Dead Period:
The college coach cannot make in-person contact with you or your legal guardians. This prevents the coach from making any evaluations of you whatsoever. However, the coach can make telephone calls to you or your legal guardians.

Quiet Period:
During this time a college coach cannot watch you compete at any location. It is allowed for the college coach to make in-person contact with you or your legal guardians if it occurs on the coach's campus. The coach can still make telephone calls to you or your legal guardians, and you can make visits to college campuses during this time.

The good news is that next week the first group takes their official visits and, hopefully, that should yield some more verbals as this recruiting class takes shape.

To All,
The Students should be returning this weekend, if they haven't started moving in Friday. School starts on Monday. I saw Coach Baldwin, Coach Adams, and Coach McDaniel last night at the WBB Game, of which the Women defeated Weber State. From what I have heard, everyone is supposed to be coming back, will have to wait and see. Here is hoping everyone had a Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year. I did, and hope for many more. Coaches looked very relaxed at the game, Coach Adams came oven and spoke, he surely loves the California. In another month we should be ready for the announcement of our 2014 Recruits. Can't wait. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

air045,
Thanks for the rules update, some of them I was not familiar with. Normally if the Recruits are here during some type of Athletic Event, i.e. MBB/WBB, some of them normally come and watch the games or portions of the game. Vic

Looks like Mitch Fettig out of Olympia may have committed to EWU. He is a big CB. #GoEags twitter.

Does anyone know how many more scholarships we have to offer? Will we see many more names added to the list before signing day? Seems like a few of the guys on this list could be partials.

There are just over 20 seniors which does not necessarily mean that many scollies. As you probably know in FCS they can do partials so in theory all 20 of the new kids could get something but that is highly doubtful. And some kids will get invites to walk on but no scholarship offer.
Short answer is, its complicated.
Is there a limit of how many kids can be on the team regardless of scholarship status?

clawman,
I don't understand how the Scholarships works. I remember talking to Zach chapman during the playoffs against
Jacksonville state. I asked him if he was going to be ready for this year, he had surgery on I think his ankle, he told me he had lost his Scholarship, it was given to some one else. He is not bitter, he will try again. It is going to be hard for some of our Wide Receivers to get chances in the line up, we are so damn deep in that area. Jake Hoffman played everywhere possible at North Central. It is a possibility some of then would convert to different positions. Todd Raynes did, and he have become a damn Great DB from TE. Went to the base today, saw one of the Coaches brother working in the Commissary, (Our Military Costco), he picked up Vernon Adams at the Airport today, so he is back already. Monday morning @ 6am, weight room. Drove out to the University, it is very crowded with cars, and students still returning from their breaks. Vic Wallace

4. AJ Hotchkins 6-0 230 Sr. LB Tigard – (Offers: Montana, Idaho, Northern Colorado, Portland State) 1st team all league kid on both sides of the ball for the last two seasons. One of the hardest hitters to ever come out of the state, tracking ball carriers down like they stole something. The Tigers have never trailed this season and he is one of the main reasons why.

clawman,
Those commitments we have are great, however, I doesn't put much into any of them until NLI, which I think is on Feb 5th. Normally NLI is on the 1st Wed of Feb, also we should be having FB Banquet very soon. :thumb:

Made a trip out yesterday, Tuesday checked with our FB Coaches, just two were in. Rest are out visiting Recruits. Got the information I wanted to hear. Everyone is back. Our Prop 48s are all doing great, and is back attending classes. Saw Cooper Kupp, Nic Sblendorio, and Zac Wimberly, playing Racket Ball. Spoke to all three after they got finished, I was watching the WBB Team Practice. Also saw Jordan Tonani, he was on his way to Rehab, he had rehab earlier in the am, and was back for the afternoon session. He looks great, he is not limping. He is hoping to come back even stronger. Told him to take care of himself. He really seems very happy to be in the position he is in right now. Tevin McDonald was with Jordani Tonani earlier in the day, he did mention that. Vic Wallace p.s. got an email from Coach Adams, he flew out on Monday. He will miss all those Collard Greens, Cabbages, etc     He is missing the team Coaches, and Players already, but this is a business. Vic Wallace

Hey Vic;
Good to hear from you. We are going to miss Coach Adams as well. You know better than I but it sounds like he really did a lot for our program by doing a LOT for the players. I agree with you in wishing him the best and it is a business.
Did the coaches mention if they still have any openings left on the roster or does the 12 commits fill all of the spots? Any talk of a transfer coming in? We lost a lot of expereince on the O-line and D-line but have quite a few kids with expereince coming back. Never can have too many of the big fatties   . No I am not coming out...yet.
See you and Chrissy at the basketball game Thursday. We gotta beat those Grizzlies...again.

According to NW Elite Index Keenan Curran, a three star on the list of those with EWU offers, has committed to San Jose State. I believe the coaches were very high on him, and being from Federal Way - Tucker, Havili, and the Pulus school - that probably gave them hope of landing him. Tough getting those three stars, hold your breath on DJ Martin.

clawman,
No, I didn't get into much asking of questions of the Coaches, my main concern was did all of our Players return, and did our Props 48 return. Coach Adams did work his butt of with those Wide Receivers, every time you saw him he was working with them on routes, learning to catch the ball with one hand, etc. No idea who will be the new Wide Receiver Coach. I was hoping Coach Torrey, who went to Idaho, had an opportunity to come back, heard he is some where in the Canadian Football League. I am glad for that. See you on Thursday. Saw on SWX last night that we have a game today at 2 p.m., that game is on Saturday @ 2p.m. Take care. Vic Wallace

Earlier this week I must admit that doubt was creeping in my mind about my son's decision to give his verbal EWU and not one of his other D1 A offers. I felt a sense of anxiety creeping in.

Well , with day 1 of our official visit in the books, I have to say that my son and I are, even more, impressed with the Athletic Director, coaching staff, and the athletic academic staff. They genuinely seem to care and I felt a a sense of relief that my son will have the needed resources to be successful! Compared to the schools we've dealt with, EWU has a truly unique feel to it. I can say that my son and I feel 100% that this is where he should be. EWU coaching staff are tremendous people, on and off the field, and all the recruits and parents that I spoke with last night fell the same way. We're coming to EWU, because it feels like home and we want our kids to be part of the EWU family. Whatever you do- work like hell to keep coach Baldwin here for a long time. he's a tremendous asset to this University!

Ok, now that I spilled my guts, lets talk some football!!! Very impressive class. I think this recruiting must rank higher than any other Mountain West school and is better then University of Idaho class- hands down! Many of them have other D1 options, but are choosing to go to EWU. There's speed everywhere in this class and I hope we don't lose any up to signing day. They seem to be excited to be eagles and ready to go, but i guess until that form is signed, you never know.

Hey Vick, if you'r at the B-ball game today and see the group of recruits say Hi to my son, The D-line kind of walks around together can't miss them!

By the way, there's more than 12 verbals- not sure who's missing, there's 4 verbals (full offers) for D-line on this visit alone, not including any partials that may be out there we don't know about.

Go eags!

air045 I'm very glad to hear you and your son's visit is going well. My wife and I can confirm that what you are seeing/feeling about the EWU Football program is real. The coaches are outstanding people and the environment is incredibly positive. It is a great place for kids to mature and be challenged, develop and get the most out of their potential. My son just completed his redshirt freshmen year and he and our family couldn't be happier with his choice to attend EWU. If your son has a desire to grow as a person, get the most out of his ability and be a part of an incredible team that cares about one another then you have picked the right place in EWU. Welcome to the EWU family, glad you are here!

Do the names Monike Sarte (Fife), Monike Failauga (Fife) or Jay Tee Tiuli (Federal Way) ring any bells on the fourth DL?
