Don't get me wrong, I like the running. I guess I'm just used to not seeing them run this much and it should help us in the 4th QT. I do like how our receivers seem to stepping up. Peoples is one of those young guys that could make a big difference. It's great to see Darin McDonald back too. However, that interview with Grables said they're looking at Morris as a punt returner? If he's having fumbling issues I wouldn't do that.

Also, any noticeable improvements on special teams?
From what I can tell, the kickers still do a lot of standing around. Maybe they can't kick when the rest of the team is on the field but there's also the grass fields to the South that they certainly could be practicing kicks on - especially the punters. I know there is a difference for the field goal kickers between the "sport turf" and grass but IMO it's not that different.

Kaman has been booming punts during return & blocking drills. He's consistently backing return men up. FG/PAT: haven't seen those drills run when I've been there. However, all kickers have been spending some extra conditioning w/the strength coach. Given Earnest's structure for practice, thus far, it may be that he's requested that they not stray away from the two main fields.

August 27 will be "Meet the Bears"...with a scrimmage also, but I'm not sure of the time yet.

Did anybody go to the scrimmage? Judging from the stats in the article on the Trib, it didn't sound all that great. The OL allowed 8 sacks? Is the DL just that good?

Needs Work Receivers were dropping balls, especially Dominic Gunn. He had 2-3 drops. I know we were missing Chris Morris, and he should be back from injury for the start of the season, but I was disappointed in this unit.
Cause for Concern: Offensive line. I know it was a scrimmage and a "touch" counts as a sack, however they seemed a little confused on their blocking assignments. Some of the defensive players were coming through untouched.
The offense couldn't get into a flow and I think that mainly had to do with us switching in QB's so much and the fact that we were missing two important guys in Burnley and Morris. And we were playing a lot of the younger guys.
Good turn out of fans for a scrimmage that really wasn't advertised. I'm thinking if we can win half our games Nottingham will come close to selling out our games. Collins is uniting our fan base once again.

What about the other receivers? Did we see 4 wide, use of tight end, backs motioning out?????? Was it a true hurry up offense, or just a call the play on the line? Did they use special teams at all?

Thanks for the updates about the scrimmage. I enjoy hearing about all areas that you discussed. The Offensive line is always the last one to get on track. It has always been that way. The rotation of QB's could be the problem but honestly it is usually having the time it takes to work together and to understand the line calls that takes the longest to understand. How is the NC Center? Most successful Offensive lines start with a smart center that recognizes the front and makes the calls. Late blitzs are usually built upon this with everybody accounted for in the blocking scheme. If they load the box and bring more than they can block, then it usually comes down to the QB and receiver seeing the hot read and adjusting the route to a predetermined pattern. The more comfortable the QB gets at this, the less blitzing there will be because D-coordinators usually are afraid to attack if they get burned. Just my two cents and the the sooner a QB is named The better...
