NEW OC

I believe that it was Pete Darnell, the son and qb coach, who had the recruiting connections in California. Now that he's gone with his father, I think that the next OC should have recruiting connections in one or several of the hot recruiting states. That would be either CA, TX, or FL. I think that this team's improvement in the past couple of years can be correlated to recruiting in these states. If the Bears are going to make a move into the top half of the conference it's going to be necessary to get quality recruits from these hotbeds.

First, what improvement are you talking about? Going from 1 win to 3? The change has to include the top, and that is not going to happen this year, so I'm getting ready for next years train wreck.

The improvement I'm talking about is getting a kid from California and the Univ. of Florida who was very solid for the Bears at QB. I'm talking about a pair of wide receivers who are from Calif. and were as good (IMO) as any receivers in the BS.
I would agree with you that serious questions exist whether "the top" can put together a team that can win consistently in the BS. The Bears need to get away from being so conservative on offense which I believe was because of Darnell. They need to stretch the field with their wide receivers. They need to be able to get first downs in short yardage situations and they need to go for it on fourth down when that opportunity is there. Hopefully, they'll get an aggressive OC who will make them into an aggressive offense. And the defense, as good as they were against the pass, can't give up the huge running plays they gave up last season.

The trend the last 4 years has been choking in the 4th quarter, I put that on coaching but we'll see, another 1 win season should be enough to end this error... I mean era.

Our talent level isn't the problem as you can see from so many close losses. If the full roster from the University of Montana last year transferred to UNC, our coaches could maybe get 5 wins out of them. Our coaches are so piss poor that we would have to have SEC talent to win the Big Sky. Last year was a 1 win season; USD and USD do NOT count!

Well, JJJ and Blofeld and all the other coaches critics. I have one question for you. When is the last time you've donated money to UNC athletics? We won't compete for a Big Sky title with the assistant coaches we have now and WE CAN'T AFFORD BETTER COACHES AT THE CURRENT TIME. Until donors step it up, that's just the way it's going to be. I'll beat most of you will say something about how you don't donate any more because you don't like Hinrichs or Downing. Well, suck it up. You won't like the new A.D. just the same. He's a hatchet man, he will do things that are unpopular, just like Hinrichs has done. That's a piss poor reason not to donate money. It's about the student athletes, not the A.D. Give them a chance to compete. Give them a chance to be coached up by some real talent. STOP YOUR FREAKING CRYING AND OPEN UP THE CHECK BOOK!!!!

You make a good point. I don't have much money but I'll donate $100 and I'll request that it be put towards the new OC's salary. This site has 237 members; if we can get 100 to do the same then we can add $10,000 to the salary.

Ok, I just went on uncbears.com to try to donate money and when you click on the link for the Blue and Gold club it just tells you why you should join but doesn't give a link to donate money. Now that is piss poor! You shouldn't have to dig around for that! There should be links all over that site telling you how to donate! Am I missing something? Does anybody know of a link to donate with a card?

Doesn't TheScott work for UNC? Can you remedy this?

Just print it out and send it in the mail. It's not that hard.

Umm yes you're right; but it would be a lot easier to donate electronically and for some odd reason I think that UNC should want to make it as easy as possible on the donors.

I heard the same rumor but I didn't hear that he was hired. Isn't he the OC who was reassigned to recruiting coordinator by Fairchild at CSU?
Anybody have any insight as to why he left the CSU program other than he viewed his new position as a demotion?
On the positive side, he does have experience but is he a quality OC?

We're waiting for the Tribune to report it so maybe we'll get news on this by the opening of spring ball.

Wow, the Trib and athletics website are both very slow. They still have Darnell's picture and profile up. I just want to know. Who's the new OC?
