Roos Field Renovation

Great looking rendering! I love seeing the field without the damn track around it, and the brick is a nice touch that compliments the already existing structures quite well.

As far as moving to Albi for a year, I think we're lucky to have a decent facility like that nice and close. I was out there for the Coug spring game and it's the same as it ever was, though the playing surface is upgraded.

When it comes to the Gateway Project...

I think a number of us who either post or lurk on this site feel similarly!

I talked to his oneness today, our Pres. and they are keeping the scoreboard where it is because they plan on moving the track with the Gaeway project and they didn't want to spend the money to move it two times. It will be expensive enough moving the track and field. It was a fun scrimmage today.

Good to hear! So they ARE planning on moving the field closer to the West side stands when the track is removed?

If they are, would it create an issue with the north side endzone seating structure? Its not concrete but it looks permanante & it has a concrete foundation.

I think it can be moved. Of course, new concrete would have to be poured but it shouldn't be a huge deal. Who knows, maybe they build in more permanent seating on that end to blend the two sides, and then move the current aluminum seating to the opposite end zone, creating the "Eagle's Nest" student section. Tons of drunken college kids jumping on that thing would make a hell of a noise!

I like it!

It sounds like preliminary work is already underway. Eastern supposedly sent agents to Boone, NC to observe what App State has done with their expansion. Someone in the know is telling me they are all onboard with getting this thing completed within the next couple of seasons :phat: . Finished capacity should be about 16,000.

Awesome. I'm really hoping for some new football facilities/locker rooms right next to the field. Walking through the parking lot always felt a little bush league to me.

hopefully with the ability to expand to 25 if needed.

25k? Really? God that would be nice, but that might take a couple National Championships.

well you build it in a modular fashion where it could happen. Not everyone knows, but Reese court was designed as that also, phase 2 just never happened:)

App state's expansion isn't all that great. Why not look at what Cal Poly, Montana state, or James Madison has done? App State's expansion is very basic looking. However, any renovation to the eastside would be great.

Funny you should mention this, because they did. I was listening to the pregame ahow today and they were mentioning that they visited App State, JMU, Virginia, and a couple other schools on the East Coast.

App State expansion not that good? the bleacher stuff on the opposite side of the press box isnt anything to write home about but the press box itself is incredible!

I went to the ewu app state game before the expansion and it was nice then!

Why are you talking about App's pressbox? Does the proposed Roos Field expansion include a new pressbox? NO... so why the hell are EWU reps going to the rock? A new press box is not an expansion dumb fxck. App state's expansion was endzone seating and a 2nd deck onto their visitors side. =Not impressive. They still have a track and they dont have endzone seating in both endzones. Also the deck is ADA compliant, so they added those goofy zig zag wheelchair ramps on the sides. Lets not get it twisted, The Rock is cool bc of the attendance, and to a lesser extent, the new box.. not the stadium itself. If Eastern throws up some cheap looking stands on the eastside and calls it an "EXPANSION", I WILL BE VERY UPSET. Why? bc of the potential of what could have been. The Rock has not lived up to its potential. Heres what Roos needs to live up to its POTENTIAL:

Expand the west side an additional "section" on each side.
Remove the track
Big Sky & National Championship Flags
Add AT LEAST 6k perm structure to the east side that looks similar to the west side.
Add perm endzone seating to the south endzone similar to the north (see CCU's Brooks Stadium)
Once track is removed, bowl endzones (see Wa-Griz)
Change Roos Field to Woodward Stadium @Roos Field.

I don't think anything will be done to the west side of the stadium. They mentioned that after the track removal, the field would be moved 26 feet towards the west grandstand, and then the east side structure would be constructed closer to the field. As far as the south end zone, that's where the student section is supposed to eventually go, although I'm not sure if that's included in phase I or II. "An imposing structure dubbed the Eagle's Nest".

Roos Field @ Woodward Stadium, if they go by normal naming conventions ;) . I think you're spot on with the rest of your assessment, with the exception of bowling it out. I'd love to see a true bowl, but if memory serves, there were issues with the water table when they put in the Inferno (also, I know you remember how sloppy the old grass field used to get!). It may make bowling the thing out too costly, but who knows. The bottom line is, this needs to be done RIGHT the first time, so we aren't playing the what if game later on. :twocents:

Everything I read gave me the impression the new side would be quite a bit more than just a cheap seating section. Something more along the lines more luxury suites (aka new press box), two decks, with views of the action from concessions. And a whole football operations building and other shops. Bowling it out looked to be a part of a future expansion. I think the folks in charge have pretty big plans. During the WSU pregame show they talked a lot about WSU's recent upgrade and doing the same thing, just on a smaller scale. If all goes to plan will the "home" section still be on the old side or will they flip it for the expansion?
