UNC vs. Chadron State

I wasn't able to attend the game due to work. I log on to the uncbears.com around 6 to see the game recap. Not one up yet. I check back at 8, still no story. I check back at 11 and finally there is a story. The game sounded awful and the story was even worse. The Media Relations Department SUCKS. god what the hell has happened in there. Even the INTERN last year had more publicity then this shit. In the game stories last year i could find out if the game was on TV, the radio stations and what day the coaches show is. Not this year. Not with this SID. How about proof reading the story? a MONKEY could write a better story then this SID. who is the Northern Colorado football team? Isn't this the University of Northern Colorado? "The Bears gave up 14 point in each of the first two quarters and trailed at the half 28-0." A little AP style would be nice too. but i guess i'm asking for too much as an alumni of this institution to be able to read about the games that i can't attend

Be careful what you say idiot. Media Relations Heather Kennedy's mother passed away last weekend during the Hawaii trip and she was at her mom's funurel this weekend. Wasn't even at the game. Fool.

i'm sorry to hear about her mothers passing. It goes beyond these two weeks and you know it. There has been no publicity coming out since she was hired back in may.

How was he supposed to know that?

I'm only going to bring out a couple of things you may or may not know...

1. An assistant for the SID department wasn't hired until early August. Joe Prisco was thrust into game day Saturday, while also having to follow his assigned sports.

2. Heather has also been taking on other duties beyond being SID--specifically some compliance matters, since Meghan Boone is no longer in place.

I don't speak "officially" for the athletic department, but has anyone considered volunteering to help? There are a number of fine people who do to assist on gameday, but I'm sure there are open spots--even for writing the post-game release, BST.

Great point. There are some on this board who I think would do a great job at the post game report (except they would have to temper the disappointment).

I'm pretty certain they wouldn't want me writing the post game reports. Terms like "continuously shitting the bed" wouldn't fly.

I am coming on for my dose of crow that I deserve rightfully. I was cocky, stupid, idiotic, ignorant, arrogant, and downright pathetic. If I was near a Chadron State fan right now I would let him or her put a crow bar through my head. :D .

Anyhow, I learned my lesson and I will never talk such trash again.

I am still not sure if Chadron is a good team though or if we are just that bad. I hope Chadron wins out so that we might not look so bad.

Good to see you man up jjjj. Chadron is very good and will probably will out. But UNC is still pretty bad, I can't believe they gave up that easy.

They told a long-time fan who volunteed his time to take photos at games "We will not grant you a press pass this season." His website was great free publicity for the department, and they basically told him to piss-off. So you will not see me running around asking to do the department's job for them when they treat people like that.

We should not have to voluneer in the first place, the department should have the necessary staff in place so that staff are not pulling double duty, and if there is an emergency they should have a plan and the staff to continue on.

C'mon guys...we're BIG time football now. You can't just have people walking around next to the field with camera's. ( Remember the good old days when fans, and family, were allowed down on the field after the game?) Now...before someone says," NCAA Regulations", that's one of those bend but don't break rules. We can say that the security forces are "physically overwhelmed" on a weekly basis.

Considering there is room for dozens of photographers and they probably have requests for 3 or 4 at the most, there is NO reason to deny a press pass to take pictures of the game so they can publish them on a website that promotes the team.

Its called liability...Right or wrong, the school is trying to cover it arse. As opposed to the NFL, who is trying to put advertising on the vests photogs wear on the sidelines.

As for having the staff, I suggest looking into how many positions in the athletic administration are currently not filled.

And even in the "big time", volunteers on game days are a large part of what's going on. PA guys, stats crews, etc., may get a small pittance, but for the most part they are volunteers.

After 5 years of having nice support from the UNC Athletic Dept and their Sports Information Directors Dave M , Colin N and Kyle S I was told this year I would not be allowed a field pass for UNC games. Since my website was mainly pictures with some links to sories about UNC athletics I no longer felt it was worth continuing. I was told it was some NCAA poilcy. I checked with a Sports Information Director at another school and was told thay they knew nothing of any NCAA poilcy.

The whole website was to promote UNC sports and to provide free pictures for any athletes, fans and parents of UNC athletes. I had received many emails over the years thanking me for doing so. I noticed that on the official website that I have not seen any pictures from the first game on the site yet although there were photogaphers on the sidelines.

That really is a shame they cut you out like that. I for one have always appreciated your photo albums and it was above and beyond the call of duty to provide that to us all...

I'd just suggest not giving up quite yet, there very well could be a new AD next year and hopefully it's someone that is much more intune with the community and understands grass roots support.

I think that the point that people are trying to make is that the Athletic Department needs to create a "welcoming" atmosphere for volunteers. Remember, a volunteer doesn't owe the Athletic Department a thing. Their not their for the glory; not the money; and obviously, not the appreciation. They are there because they are Bears supporters. If you foster a relationship with them now, they might lend financial support at a later time in their lives when they can afford it.

And I'll qualify my early morning response and be more diplomatic by adding that I'm not saying I agree with declining someone the right to be on the sideline. I'm sorry if I offended anyone.

I just know that every place has differing views on who should be there and who shouldn't, plus liability does play a role...

As for NCAA policy, it could be and it might not be. Even they aren't fully sure how to handle the internet. During the College World Series, they tried to ban live blogging from the game sites, only to get into a fight with the Louisville paper. The NCAA even tried to ban the Louisville paper from being at Rosenblatt the following weekend, but gave in.

Westwood One recently sent out notification that LOCAL broadcasts of NCAA tournament cannot be streamed, because it conflicts with their rights to NCAA broadcasts. However, stations cannot stream Westwood One's coverage either.

IMO, it seems the NCAA, NFL, MLB and NBA all address items on an "as needed" basis, and when they try to be proactive, they overstep their bounds.

Bears Radio, I do see your point about liability, but it would seem that if the NCAA is vague about their rules, then we should be able to do what we need until they say otherwise. I'm not saying that you made that statement, but if there is wiggle room around the rules...then for God's sake wiggle. I can see how the Athletic Department couldn't let everyone that wanted to be on the side line, on the sideline. That would be chaos. But I think that they should be able to make decisions that benefit both the school, and the supporters. Again, it just seems that this is not the time to be alienating people that want to support the Bears.
